His whole speech came across that Trump should lie about who is, because that would make them feel better. Obama did that, Bush did that, and Clinton did that, and I am glad Trump refuses to do that. Maher is a privileged snowflake.
One of my buddies (pre-election 2024) was mad about how Trump answered a debate question about if an abortion-ban bill came to his desk, would he sign or veto it, or something like that.
I told my friend that Trump’s answer was that it would never come to his desk again as it’s now with the states; so, in other words, he was trying to tell the truth and not give some hypothetical answer to a question that will now never come about.
My friend felt that Trump should have pandered to the interviewer. I disagreed and told my buddy, you can’t fault a guy for giving a real answer.
Most people are passionate about their beliefs, but are also capable of holding conversations, eating dinner calmly, and laughing their heads off at jokes. He was asking Trump to lie about what he believes in, or word it in such a way that was palatable to the weak minded idiots of the left.
How many people did Obama drone to death, and how often did he mention it? Or, Hilary Clinton “We came, we saw, we killed him”. Much nicer than saying that we deposed the Libyan leader with lies, and then had him murdered in cold blood!

I watched a lot of it last night but I just cannot stand the pompous attitude of Bill Maher. He talked as though he was schooling PDJT on many topics.

But I will agree that ‘pompous’ is also accurate and, from my observations of clips of him over several years, he is definitely intellectually mediocre. He is not nearly as smart as he (and his audience) obviously believes himself to be.
But admittedly, that seems to be a relatively easy conclusion to draw from watching and listening to most leftwing pundits and (purported) comedians.
Bill recognized he was dining with greatness, a historical figure for the ages. He dressed appropriately out of respect, and agreed with Trump on many hot item topics..

His world and his paycheck come from the Woke contingent so that’s the silo he stays in. But he’s an old school liberal who still follows some rules of decorum.

3-4 backers. What was left over was the conservative arguement.
WHAT IT ACCOMPLISHED: Night after night after night it showed that anyone that strayed
off the liberal/ narrative reservation was vastly in the minority. By it’s formula it inferred that
what people watching at home reflected their belief behind their TV sets. So, it showed every
night that only 25% of the public believed in anything that wasn’t liberal or narrative approved.
It also was the first big red pill YTG swallowed. Too pat, too formulaic. Even started referring to
it as “Pathetically Ignorant with Bill Moron”.

I think the BM was walking a tightrope between not totally pissing off his far left audience who hate Pres Trump while saying that Pres Trump is reasonable and not toxic. He was managing the cognitive dissonance of his audience. He also allowed Bannon to present his views while maintaining his opposition. One year ago, Bannon’s views would have been totally banned. Same with Piers Morgan favorable comments. BM was just managing his unruly mob and steering them to more moderated views without alienating his lefty base. All positive.

IMHO, Maher learned that in order to be relevant, he needed to adopt the acceptable politic of the day…liberal Democrat…and has espoused that ideology ever since. It worked, of course, and put him back on the air. So, when listening to Maher now, I wonder if his current monologue is more ‘you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows’, that is, he sees how the power is shifting, and assumes he must shift with it to remain relevant. Bill’s living the Hollywood DREAM. Puffed up, self-important, exasperating, but plenty clever. To hold a Bannon in check and land some jabs in a short interview shows that he’s quick on his feet. And to fenagle a personal dinner with the Very Stable Genius shows that he’s a world class insinuator.

I attended an episode of his Politically Incorrect show in the mid-90s, back when I thought he truly was politically incorrect. He wasn’t, of course. They co-opted a great maxim that some of us wanted to wear on our shirts for all the honest world to feel.
