I wish he’d do toys. I don’t want kids to be pushed further into a digital hellscape because no one can afford them. Idk, maybe make buying bootlegs from Aliexpress harder.
Toys are the last thing that need relief. With how much plastic they contain, they are the one thing that can easily be made here. As gutted as our manufacturing is, we have very highly capable plastic, metal, and paper manufacturing capacity in the US. Our weakness is anything that has electronic components. We have to be very careful with exceptions. Before long, everything will be an exception.
As a side note, I would never knowingly buy my child a toy made in China. They have a very poor track record as far as contaminants, toxicity, etc.
Get patterns and make fabric toys without buttons, sequins and all choking/stuff-up-the-nose/gouge eyes or cutting the skin hazardous materials. They don’t have to be fancy or complicated – just nice colors and durable, washable. Those who love to sew or knit will have a lot of fun making them for grand kids and small children. Educational toys can be made of many different materials that don’t have to be expensive to be used with learning books – counting/reading/spelling etc. I know this because I admire my friends and family members who take time to do this even though they work full time, and often late. The amount and variety of stuff they produce is incredible, as their own working life generally takes up three-quarters of their waking days.
They won’t even think of making them to sell. Since the things they make are so creative, durable and of much better quality and beauty than those costing at least 3 times more in commercial stores; they would be very marketable but they don’t relish the stress involved.

I would say that technically he did cave. However, I can understand why did this. Our businesses are so incompetent and greedy that they almost fully rely on China for the products exempted. Instead of working to diversify, they’ve basically thrown their hands up in the air screaming that the world will come to an end. They’ve done absolutely nothing to help. What they need to be doing is working to establish alternate supply chains. Unfortunately, our business leaders are typically very bad people. I wish that I was exaggerating.

Briefly: these people are going into and onto farm land and digging up seeds (and plants?) and shipping them back to chyna…from Indiana to O’Hare….O’Hare is in IL….for replication over in chyna. The article focused on Indiana but also mentions the problem in FL.

Semiconductors have been exempt from the tariffs – and China is not a producer of key U.S chips. The only two things new are the computers and flat screens. One should note also that the new order only creates exemptions from reciprocal tariffs – not from baseline or existing tariffs. That means anything from China continues to have a 20% tariff regardless of what it is.
