Phil Valentine was a Conservative nationally syndicated radio talk show host. He dominated the airways for years strategically lobbying to do away it. I do miss his show. He passed away from Covid and the Democrats shamelessly used his death to argue FOR those poisonous Covid vaccines and boosters.
I pray that Florida passes that legislation to lead the way for the rest of the country.

Exactly! That puddle in your yard now becomes reason for you to need flood insurance, which is outrageous, on top of your home insurance. My flood insurance is $2200 per year. We have filed one claim in 30 years. And then there is so much they don’t cover, like appliances.

The politicians make the insurance mandatory; the residents have to buy it, and the insurance “premiums” go up each and every time a storm is forecast…

It is a UN Organization and it is a sub-committee of the IMO foisting the Carbon Taxes on the world is the MPEC (an environmental protection committee). ALL money garnered, if any will to the UN and not some nebulous committee. This is another attempt by the UN to Levee a TAX, just like the WHO.

That phrase reminds me of a recent comment/interview by Victor Davis Hanson regarding California.
He said California is the most heavily regulated and at the same time the most lawless state/place by far.
He uses his family farm as an example. As a law abiding farmer, he is subject to the heavy regulations and frequent inspections to ensure he is compliant. He always is and it’s an easy inspection.
At the same time, his immigrant neighbors are never inspected and are never subject to the over-burdensome regulations (complete lawlessness). When he questions the inspectors, they roll their eyes and intimate that they don’t even think about ensuring his lawless neighbors get into compliance. They never get inspected.
They just pick on the law abiding good guys. Different set of rules I guess.
All farmers are equal, but some farmers are more equal than others.
MAGA Minuteman: It’s the same with every profession and trade class in California. The naturally law abiding and compliant professionals and tradesmen fund the habitual law breakers and non-compliant. The agencies and departments that make the regulations and enforce the compliance exist to raise funds for salaries and benefits, primarily to ensure that the staff and administrative infrastructure to collect money remains in place.
Meanwhile, lobbyists for professional organizations and trade groups collect more money from the professionals and tradesmen, to pay salaries for lobbyists who benefit from more regulation and more compliance burden.
My work life is a never-ending battle against these forces of no good.

Nice soundbite…we’ve all heard it over and over. But it’s impactable. Show me a list of alternate products made in America that are equal or lower in price than what we buy from China. Many items we buy aren’t even produced in the U.S. so competition is impossible.

True. It’s difficult to compete with the cost of products made with slave labor. Americans should retain their right to also purchase their way into bondage via a crushing trade deficit and loss of middle class jobs in the USA.
Seriously, I’m also going to miss buying cheap things from China, but we have to keep the long-term picture in mind.
The problem is not just price. It’s a matter of finding most anything that is still made in the USA.
Once the short sighted stupidity of shipping manufacturing to an enemy is finally realized by enough people, the victim nation is trapped for some time into continuing to fund its enemy because such products are no longer produced domestically.

Sold nothing at the first market. No one was interested.
I took everything to two more markets and sold two or three things and that was it.
Packed everything up and tucked them away.
This may be the year to try selling them again, and include organic herbal tea made from foraging Minnesota wildflowers, Wild Lettuce Tincture made from foraging Minnesota weeds, fresh ticked feather pillows made from old feather pillows and comforters that have been sanitized (and no one else wanted), hand knit mittens, scarves, neck warmers, and a long ago favorite, Crazy Quilts.
My husband and I have been saving life essentials for about 6 years now, for a time such as you describe. I have inside the house covered, hubby has the outside covered.
At least we pray we do, and pray we can bless others along the way, too.

It is my art. Others paint, take photos, draw, etc. I throw fabric on the floor and choose which ones I think will make a beautiful quilt. It takes me a while, as I hand quilt them.

I went to a bread making class in someone’s home last weekend and decided to bring along a few different little things I make to give away to the host and other attendees.
I made a big batch of Jewelweed anti-itch oil last year and put it in cute vintage apothecary jars to give as gifts (here’s a link to someone’s ebay listing showing just the stopper of the jars I used — I have the jars and stoppers https://www.ebay.com/itm/175411177251), and here’s a link showing what Jewelweed looks like (https://www.thespruce.com/growing-jewelweed-plants-5088278). Jewelweed spreads naturally and grows like crazy in northern Minnesota. It is known to grow near Poison Ivy (yeap, we have that, too), and it was discovered that Jewelweed is a great anti-itch remedy for Poison Ivy (and lots of other) itch. So making an anti-itch oil in a Poison Ivy thriving area seemed like a smart thing to do.
The other thing(s) I brought were Flower Sugars. Have a dear Chinese friend who loves Peonies and told me that she’d seen Peony Sugar. When she and her family traveled to China for a month last summer I watched their house and plants, and I pulled all the healthy pink flower petals off her large peonies and made Peony Sugar for her. Then I made Lilac Sugar and DayLily Sugar and put them in cute little jars to give away.
Funny thing was that most people didn’t want to take any of the things I’d made and brought, until I walked around asking people if they wanted any of them when the class was over.
I don’t think I’m like other people, ’cause I would have been “itchin'” to get one-of-each ASAP just to try them.
Your fabric stash sounds wonderful. Reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. If things go bonkers in this world, you will have something that every little girl will want — a new dress hand made by mom (auntie/grandma), when no one else has a new dress for anything.

Raven, I am quite familiar with Jewelweed tincture for poison ivy. I’ve also made Wild Lettuce tincture. I’ve got a lot of Wild Lettuce growing around my yard and pasture.
My old mare horse had arthritis and when I let her out to the pasture, she would seek out the wild lettuce. That is when I researched it.
During my research, I read that during the Civil War when they ran out of opium for the wounded soldiers, they used Wild Lettuce as a pain reliever.
The world of flora has so many benefits if one takes the time to research.

When I first learned about Wild Lettuce I only went back as far as the early 1900s, when doctors were prescribing Wild Lettuce tincture at the same rate as Opium (Laudanum). But by the 1930s Wild Lettuce was out and Opium was in.
Opium, addictive and from a plant that does not grow freely everywhere you go.
Wild Lettuce, non-habit forming and from a plant that most of us have in one variety or another near by.

I just wrote a long post but lost when my phone died) on why I think that current corporate structure is the root of this problem and that I think we need to reimagine a new and better business vehicle that still promotes the enterprise of corporations without allowing things like 2008 to be VERY profitable to all but the taxpayer.
Hence, the tariffs, which are so high China can not absorb them, so A) in the short term, that “cheap chinese crap” will now be expensive chimese crap, even as manufacturers storm back into the U.S. to begin producing here.
The $ that has been fumneled to Universities where its wasted, needs to be diverted to Community Colleges and Trade Schools that work WITH the companies coming in to train up a workforce.

I lived in So. CA during the Covid mass hysteria (Do any of you remember the dude who was paddle boarding on the ocean and the cops were following him on the beach to arrest him???? This was in my community.) and will never ever forget how I was treated by people who I thought were sane decent people (and considered somewhat “friends”). I was invited/highly discouraged from attending my client’s 70th birthday party and told “if not vaccinated, please just send your well wishes to the birthday boy.” This from someone who felt so superior and virtuous by checking in people at a drive through vaccination site. It bugged the sh*t out of her that I wouldn’t “go along to get along.” I cheerfully declined the invitation to the birthday party because I knew even though she felt “pressure” to invite me, we BOTH were relieved that I didn’t go.
And oh by the way, this person who was triple vaxxed, contracted Covid and DID NOT disclose it to me. She exposed me to the virus and I did test positive. Since I was on a preventative ivermectin regime, I was only “sick” for 48 hours but out of respect voluntarily isolated for 10 days.
This is someone who would never in a million years admit that she was wrong on so many levels. I can’t stand people who are unwilling to admit they’re not perfect while expecting perfection from everyone else.
So much happier that I’ve left the state of CA. I’ve left some really good friends behind, but the majority of them drank the Kool-Aid. I just couldn’t live like that anymore.

I am praying today for the indirect talks between US and Iran. I have been reading so many things that each side has said and reports from sources. There are several factors that have made the talks more possible and give me hope that agreements can be reached.
Some government officials in Iran are encouraging direct talks and if today’s talks are successful there is willingness to hold direct talks. Iran has concerns because the people of Iran do not want a war. A war, therefore, could lead to instability for the current leadership. A lessening of sanctions would be beneficial for the country. They will not react well to threats to their sovereignty.
On the other side, US people do not want an expensive war with Iran. Yesterday I read that CENTCOM sources have admitted that the bombing of Yemen has been minimally successful if it can be said to be successful at all. Yemen was the trial run for an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, using the heaviest bunker buster bombs. Iran’s military sites are much deeper and more heavily reinforced than those in Yemen. In addition, the US is aware of the ties between Iran and Russia and China. Another factor is the price of oil/energy when the US wants the price to go down. The US does not want a nuclear-armed Iran which would be beneficial to middle east peace.
So each side has a vested interest in having peace, rather than war. Agreement rather than threats.
I pray for peace.

Sending Americans’ most sensitive personal information directly to China probably wasn’t what the Federal Communications Commission had in mind when it decided to subsidize affordable mobile phones for millions of low-income Americans.
That’s exactly what happened, however.
Beginning in 2015, a wide range of budget Android phones manufactured by American company BLU in China were systematically preloaded with malware by suspected Chinese state-backed actors.
Those phones were found by cybersecurity company Kryptowire to have been preloaded with malicious software by the Shanghai Adups Technology Company, an opaque IT services company established in China in 2012, with which BLU had contracted to provide service updates for its devices.
The Adups malware operated at the most foundational level of the phones, including in the wireless update and settings apps, meaning that the malware could not be removed without rendering the phones unusable.
For years, Adups collected granular location data, contact lists, logs for calls and texts, and even the full contents of texts from Americans’ phones. Some of the phones even allowed remote actors believed to be based in China to take screenshots or otherwise seize control of the devices.
To make matters worse, all that data were encrypted and sent back to a server in China, where Chinese Communist Party (CCP) law mandates that information is a national resource, effectively transferring Americans’ most personal data directly to the regime.

One of the largest themes I’ve noticed is the huge disconnect between business/Wall Street and Main Street, especially how it relates to China. We have sleazy corporatists and the mainstream media screaming nonstop about how we need cheap goods from them, and the world will come to an end if we disrupt trade. How did people survive in the 60s, 70s, and 80s? For all this nonsense, it seems like America did a pretty good job of manufacturing what it needed. Apparently now, that’s a strategic impossibility.
What person in their right mind doesn’t want to leave China? Say good riddance, and we never want to hear from you again. I’ve made it well known that I want their entire economy to collapse. I don’t care what happens to them, it’s not our problem. They are evil and ruthless, and I want to be ruthless right back. That is the only language they understand. They lie, cheat, and steal and cause us nothing but problems. I couldn’t care less about helping Xi “save face.” Almost every economic and military issue we encounter somehow involves China, and I’m convinced we’re seeing the high cost of a low price.
What’s unfortunate is how resistant and arrogant our business community is. Instead of saying we see the negative sentiment, we’re going to transition out of there, they just go on TV and lecture us. We’re too stupid to understand the importance of China in the economic picture. The problem is that they have the carrot of 1 billion people being dangled in front of them, and they’re too greedy to abandon that potential market.
We have to apply significant pressure or nothing is going to change. This morning, the news broke that the tariffs will exempt many electronics (smartphones, TVs, computer chips, etc). I understand why this is happening, but it’s another factor that will make it business as usual for many companies. We have to change the mindset and general perception of consumers. I swear that we should start a Super PAC on this forum and run nothing but YouTube and TikTok ads hammering China and sleazy politicians. That seems like the only way to get it through people’s heads. Seeing an ad saying that China is not our friend 24×7 and perhaps the paradigm will shift, especially with younger generations.
I do hope that President Trump applies significant public pressure on these companies and shames the ones who don’t take action. Shift out of China or else. Incentivize them, give them tax breaks, whatever is needed to get it done. It’s a matter of national security. My biggest concern is probably his comments about wanting to make a deal with China. There’s not a lot I know for sure, but one thing I can tell you is that a trade deal with them will be a mistake. A big one. The reason I say this is because they don’t honor agreements. Take a look at the trade deal that was done in President Trump’s first term. Does anyone remember the actual details of what was signed? It turned out to be a toothless disaster. They fulfilled none of the terms, and they were not penalized in any way for not doing so. They can waste three weeks negotiating a new deal, but this one will be no different. They’ll be laughing at us on their way back to China. I hope that President Trump follows the Peter Navarro strategy and keeps high tariffs on them. This will cause a seismic shift out of the country, and it’s the only possible avenue I see for success.
I haven’t heard him mention anything about rare earth mining and processing recently. That’s something that needs to happen ASAP. We have substantial reserves in California, Wyoming, Texas, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, Utah, and likely other states. It’s time to tap those. Get the EPA to rubber stamp the plans and get moving. The sooner we have processing capability, the better. If we become proficient again in this area, I would expect to see manufacturing flourish again in America.
This is my rant for the day. I hope we see great progress in the coming weeks/months.

My gov agency provides employees with cell-phones and laptops. This is usually necessary equipment for the job, but then they mandate the cell-phone be discarded and replaced every 2 two years, laptops every 3 years.

Was hoping tariffs would break that cycle of trash, but by gosh its so important to keep the slave labor assembly lines in China going so Apple stock doesn’t decrease … really undercuts the administration’s position.
On Friday, AAPL closed up $7.73 at a price per share of $198.15.
China has the “Belt and Road initiative”.
The big question is, “Who is funding China?” Who is financing the build up in China with one powerplant a week being built? Who is financing their expansion to all corners of the earth with that “Belt and Road initiative”?
Is it the same group who once upon a time built up the U.S.A.? Did that group simply pull up their stakes from the U.S.A. and start the same build up with China?
Is China and the Chinese people the problem? Or is it the ones financing their build up?
Who is the target of the retaliatory tariffs against China? Who loses the most from the tariffs? Is it the ones who are now so heavily invested in China and their emergence?

Fortunately the U.S.A. has the “Wheel and Deal initiative” being orchestrated by the man who wrote “The Art of the Deal”. How lucky are we?
Somehow I think he knows. Why do I get the feeling that a deal will be worked out where only the “true enemy” loses and everyone else wins?

Another article over at NYP today about what political future may await Kamala, and as usual they go on about the 2028 Presidential race and maybe the 2026 California governor race. She should just get real and not even think about running for President in 2028. The last time the Democrats nominated an already once-failed Presidential nominee was Adlai Stevenson way back in 1956, and they probably only did that because they knew no one they could possibly nominate had a prayer against Eisenhower that year. Kamala and any remaining supporters are delusional if they think the Democrat party will even think about nominating her in 2028 or ever again.
As far as the next California governor race, she would be just about as delusional. There are far too many ambitious and prominent (at least in California) Democrats who are planning a go for that nomination and Kamala would not stand a chance. She is just not gifted or smart enough to get such a nomination on her own and she doesn’t have Clyburn or long-retired Willy in a position to help push her beyond her talents. And she doesn’t stand a chance running against Padilla in the next Senate race in 2026 either. He is a popular incumbent and won’t want to give up his seat.
If she wants to get back into office, she might have a chance at a House seat if she can get herself into a safe district, or maybe get elected as a mayor somewhere (she would not be any worse than any other Democrat mayor), but that is about the most she can hope for. She should content herself being out of politics living on her unearned government pensions and her husband’s millions.
