Texas Rancher: Same thing has happened to me, multiple times, even with “quality” US boots, such as Carolina Brand work boots. I did my own repair and glued the soles with Shoo Goo. It works for a while, but, eventually, my glue job will fail. Once, I literally “walked out” of the soles on a pair of fairly expensive hiking boots. A few days ago, I glued the soles on a pair of Magnum military-style desert boots (made in China, dang it; one day, they will simply fall apart).
My best-made boots are Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots, which are Made in USA, with Goodyear welts and stitched the soles.

Yes. Scott Bessent said that recently. The tariffs are incentive to move businesses to the USA. Combine that with cheap energy, reduced regulations, 15% corporate tax rate, and easy access to the biggest consumer market on the planet make a very compelling reason to set up a business in the USA.
Bessent said that as tariffs fall because businesses choose to open up in the USA then the business taxes will increase to compensate for the reduction in tariff revenue. Plus, Americans have great paying jobs and are happy, healthy and spending money while not paying income taxes.

Meditations on Tariffs and Health care…
I am wondering about the health care industry as many hospitals utilize products from a company called “Medline” (headquartered in Northfield, IL). Most of the syringes and other plastic products with their name, are made in China by Chinese manufacturers. And have reported quality issues that even the FDA is aware.
So if made for Medline, in China by a Chinese company…and sent to the US, are they tariffed?
If so…and other products…?
Will we see the price of health care go up (again)? Not to mention our medicines…China could shrug their shoulders and say “Ok”…? Just a tad concerned for our medication supply in the hear and now plus early future until things settle…I could see a hold up, using and depleting our “national stockpile” or not being able to update it when medications within it, expire.
I think that some enterprising business can probably open up a syringe/plastic company fairly easily in the USA. PDJT has mentioned many times that ALL of our medical supplies and medications need to be made in the USA.
The company has 43,000 employees globally according to its website.

“The USA is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands,” Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement to AP. “As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are taking some short-term actions including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans.” JLR has 340 dealerships in the United States with an estimated 30,000 employees.

I support Rick on this one. I’d have been more impressed with the panel (any panel) and their concerns with government intrusion in the market if they’d voiced that same amount of hand wringing when it was other governments doing the intruding, to our detriment. But as long as we can get our designer clothes cheap, and have cheap access to all the gadgets and do dads other countries make, who cares if the American worker has to “learn to code” just to feed his or her family…some of these people sicken me.
