Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spins a tale of Automaker Stellantis temporarily shutting down auto plants in Canada and Mexico as an outcome of President Trump’s tariffs. Unfortunately, the gaslighting by Carney might work on less intellectual SnowMexicans, but it fails here.
Stellantis, an EU centered auto company who sell Dodge, Ram (made in Mexico) and Dodge, Durango (made in Canada), have been in a deepening crisis for over a year as a result of poor brand management, poor development and weak North American sales. In short, their cars and trucks are not selling, that’s why the CEO quit in December, and they fired and replaced the North American leadership team. It has nothing to do with Trump’s auto tariffs against Mexico and Canada.
That said, Mark Carney used the Stellantis plant closing (Windsor) as cover to announce that Canada would match the auto-tariffs with a 25% countervailing duty against all U.S. made cars and trucks. [Prompted]
This approach only raises the ceiling for the U.S. tariffs against Canada. Quite frankly, I’m not sure why President Trump would continue to play this game with Carney and should (for the sake of simplicity) just cancel all trade with Canada and begin an immediate embargo and border blockade.
Tell the Carney clown to stay at home, shut it all down and let the Canadians live as a sovereign nation under the rule and regulation of the EU while they continue to destroy their energy resources and import foreign workers. It’s silly to keep entertaining Canada as if they really matter.
If it wasn’t for the national security threat they could represent on our border, Canada would likely get little policy attention from any administration. The Trudeau/Carney’s of the world are just annoying now. Sorry Canada, but this Carney guy is even worse than the last Prime Minister. They won’t even say “USMCA” because it’s Trump or something. So, Carney says “CUSMA” 😂🤣😂 Childish, silly and so typically leftist. Too funny!

Kiss our big beautiful American asses!
And don’t come her for vacations. Stay HOME.
More importantly, don’t go there and spend American dollars.
We will take their money if they want to spend it in our big beautiful country!
Agree, but this might mean I need to cancel my annual trip to Nova Scotia to club seals.
Oh the horror of it. Got a good snort out that. Glad I wasn’t drinking anything
And don’t come here for advanced medical treatment when the socialized medical system you supported so much lets you sad sack snow Mexicans down.
You’re not kidding. I live near a tourist area, and the restaurant industry certainly won’t miss them. Let’s just say that they’re not known for their generous tipping!
In a trade war, the side that purchases less from the other side wins.
It doesn’t matter what Canada does, ANY decrease in money flowing from our country to theirs would be a win for the United States, as any money that does not leave the nation via a trading deficit automatically increases GDP. The US literally has nothing to lose by going to “War” with any nation that is extracting money via a trade deficit. Worst case, we stop trading altogether and the hundreds of billions of dollars that are leaving the US forever instead stay in the country, ideally recirculating more amongst American citizens.
EVEN IF by stopping trade altogether, the Gross Domestic Output of the US somehow decreased so much that it cancelled out the wealth stolen via the trade deficit, the US would STILL be winning that exchange, as it would almost certainly be resulting in more domestic industrial jobs. But of course nothing even close to this will happen for the US. Canada has almost everything to lose.
It is rather strange that Trump would say that he didn’t like Poilivevre, say that he had a good conversation with Carney, and then see Carney turn around and do this. I’m not sure what Trump’s game is here or his goal. But I do feel bad for Canadians who have to live under the oppression of this Treasonous China-bootlicking regime in Canada; I heard recently they have politicians there who advocate for returning fleeing dissidents from China back to the regime, most likely to be tortured and/or imprisoned / executed.
We should make sure to remember the tyranny of Leftist Fascism and not allow this conflagration to make us hateful towards the Canadian citizenry, many of whom suffer silently under this oppression and will only be further hurt by it.
Age-restricted video, with no explanation from you.
It is a hockey fight between Montreal and Toronto. Not much of fight either
Nothing to offend. Just a 🏒 hockey fight.😂🤣
Don’t know why they would put an age restriction on a sissy hockey fight.
The election isn’t until the end of April…there’s still time to awaken from your slumbers, though it’s growing short.
Come on, Canada!!! Pay attention!!
Don’t do this to yourselves, for pity’s sake!!
In additional news, McConnell, Collins, the shrew from Alaska….and Rand Paul (for reasons of his principles or something) have joined hands across the aisle with the odious Dems to block President Trump’s Canadian tariffs.
Reverting to type and knifing America First.
And so it goes…
A bill that will go nowhere.
True, but how did it even come up for a vote? They were not even close to having the 60 votes needed for cloture in the Senate, but the GOP establishment let it come to a vote anyway. Why? Just to embarrass Trump and send a message that they don’t like tariffs (even though they work when used right). “We” (MAGA/MAHA) are fighting against the dems, the RINOs and the GOP establishment. If we don’t beat the RINOs and GOP establishment in the primaries, then we are left with a choice of the “lesser of two evils” in the general election.
Because Thune is a fake Republican – we have always known this.
There is nothing TO do but continue what has been occurring – as each head of the China-Wall Street hydra emerges, purge it from the Republican Party through the democratic process and replace them with people who actually care about American workers.
Grassley is entering a “bipartisan bill” to try to shut the tarffs down.
Love that term…”bipartisan”
Traitors and thieves…and enemies of those who voted them in.

Eventually when enough Americans wake up I think, hope that President Trump declares martial law and we end this.
It’s time for a boycott of all Canadian products.
Don’t spend your travel dollars there either.
We can live without them. They can’t live without us.
Don’t say anything mean or unkind. Remember, money talks.
Very few items I ever see marked as Canadian. I’ve see pound packages of yeast and bags of carrots!
That’s it. Nothing else and I look at tags.
Watch tomatoes and potatoes. I have noticed on-the-vine tomatoes are frequently from Canada, and the bagged potatoes are often from there as well. Seems ridiculous to me, considering we have ample sources for both domestically.
Catnip.
For me, it’s cedar mulch and birdseed. That’s it. Can’t find anything else made in Canada, even the maple syrup is all NY and Vermont.
Used to get our crumpets from Canada.

My Ford F-150 that was assembled in Canada is lucky I’m not a brain dead liberal.
If I were I would go out to my driveway and kick dents in it.
When I bought it I thought Canada was a good neighbor.
Not anymore .
They will never assemble me another one again.
It was a resolution, not a bill.
Yes, I know, and I should have made that part clear.
Nevertheless…
It wasn’t just those 4. Sure they made the vote 51-49 against Trump/MAGA. But how did this even come to a vote? We’ve been told over and over that nothing can be done in the Senate without 60 votes for cloture, so we have to vote harder and donate more to get to 60. Well this came to vote well short of 60. That doesn’t happen unless the GOP establishment (which also hates Trump and MAGA) that currently controls the Senate wants it to happen and lets it happen. It’s not just the dems. It’s not just the RINOs. It’s also the GOP establishment. “We the people” are having to fight all three of them, and until MAGA/MAHA came along, nobody was on our side.
Once they go to the dark side there’s no coming back…….b’bye Mr Rand Paul.
Why won’t they release the Sex Abuse Hush Fund List for Congressional Staffers and Paiges?
Everyone is hot to trot for the Epstein files meanwhile sexual abuse by Congress on underlings is not only completely permissible, we are forced against our will to pay to buy the victims silence, ensuring the guilty parties can and will reoffend.
I will bet the cat food money the worst offenders on that list are the people who impede the MAGA Agenda the most.
That’s the Blackmail Fund, and by that definition is sacrosanct.
I used to believe it would be easy to guess which were guilty.
Used to….
(And even though I suspect you’d clean up, dear brother, don’t you dare bet Jinx’s food money 😼!!)
Talk about incest.
Wake up Canada!
Pretty much the same in the U.S., if you research.
DC could rival Sodom and Gomorrah in the incest and nepotism game.
That is why they are so deranged, it’s all the blue blooded inbreeding.
Blue blood, lol.
This is not incest.
Of the political variety I’m sure he means.

Sundance, are you aware of the differences in Cost Structures between the US and nations like China/Mexico/EU, etc.. Are the recent tariffs by Trump enough to completely cancel out the cost advantage from manufacturing there? I have been curious about this, but have not seen him or any conservatives mention it.
This seems to me the crux upon which this entire maneuver hinges – only when he makes it more expensive to make stuff there will the companies return home. Of course his adding of the uncertainty and instability no doubt adds a cost element, but it seems to me he must surpass this threshold first. Love to hear your thoughts.
Look no further than POTUS Trump’s first term China tariff. Approximate 20% reduction in China’s GDP and a booming American economy with increased jobs/wages and decreased prices.
Spit first in the direction you plan to urinate, PM Carney.
Words of wisdom
Sure now, these libs all face into the wind before unzipping but you forget that half of them squat to tinkle.
You shouldn’t have told him that! LOL
From my understanding Mr. Carney said that Canada will be making their own car.
It will be called the “Car-ney”.
Due out in 2030.
A ‘clown car’!
No joke.
I wonder if they will be designed like this:
Probably Wind Turbine powered.
Sails. There’s a lot of wind there.
FAFO
Simply put, and straight to the point.
I wish President Trump would tweet that out to the EU.
The reactions would be solid gold.
There’s enough Chinese infiltration, influence, and ownership in Canada, that they are basically a national security risk as it is under current leadership.
The recent story where a Carney goon publicly advocated for returning Chinese democracy dissidents back to the Regime was absolutely shocking. Essentially a hostile foreign takeover.
Austin Powers was scared of Carneys, President Trump not so much.
Concur. Shut them off. Most of Europe too.
Day of the Rake soon.
Alas for the Canadian people.
Canada raised so now it time for the US to raise the bet (tariff).
Lets see what the carney carnaval will do.
Canada is a sideshow.
If President Trump plays his Trump card,
this game with Carney will end with – cancel all trade with Canada and begin an immediate embargo and border blockade.
We could actually begin to see mass migration from canada soon.
Canadian coyotes etc.
Please, no mass migration from canada. You see what they vote into office, they would have voted for the camel.
Canada is like that intellectually slow cousin who always tags along, never fully understands what is going on, is often frustrating, and is more a hindrance than a help. But you’re nice to him because he’s slow, and you continue to let him tag along because he’s family.
It was an eye-opening day when I realized I was THAT cousin.
Those cousins come in handy in the outfielder position, or being”it” when playing hide n seek.
True: I always wondered why i was MARCO, in the pool game, Marco Polo.
“‘It’ is very bad.” — Seinfeld
If you cant dodge it ram it … that’s exactly what Pres Trump should tell him – ram it … Maple Leaf big sad.
Let’s help plagiarized Carney with some math. Canada contributes 2% to our economy, while trade with the the US is 19 % of theirs. If we shut off trade, thr Canadians will immediately experience a depression.
So how about this for an idea? You patrol your border and curtail drug traffic and human smuggling completely while we both reduce all tariffs to zero? How about that for a win win?
Or you can have an economic depression. Now there’s a contrast, eh?
It would be far better to stop subsidizing what is admittedly at this point virtually a client Regime of the chinese Totalitarian Dictatorship. Remove all support for the Regime and let the citizenry realize just how corrupt their “leaders” are.

Canada says it’s retaliating—but if you’re refunding tariffs to your side, you’re not fighting back. You’re managing optics.
This is the same playbook China used in 2018–19: match U.S. tariffs on paper, then subsidize the damage at home to soften the blow.
Canada rolled out 25% counter-tariffs, then immediately followed with an $8B rebate fund and a $2B industry cushion—$10B total, nearly 0.5% of their entire GDP—to shield their auto sector.
Leverage means your trading partner depends on you more than you depend on them. If Canada had real leverage, they wouldn’t need a bailout before the pressure even starts. Strong industries don’t need shielding.
When you have to protect your own side from your own punch, that’s not retaliation—it’s damage control.
This is going to sound kind of silly, but many things have a reached a price point or level of unaffordability that I’m not sure that I care if tariffs were to make them even more unaffordable. I simply accept that I can’t afford it, or that I’m not willing to pay that price for it, and I move on unless I have to have it to survive. Even then I’m going to look for maximum value in that purchase. What producers are going to find out is if you are not providing an essential good or service, and you are raising your prices into the economic headwinds, you are probably going to lose a lot of money if not your business. In particular car manufacturers and dealers have been ridiculous since COVID.
Not silly at all. Guess if there was a ‘good time’ to do tariffs, it is now. If that makes sense. 🤔
Not silly at all. In my state (Missouri) new car buyers get a 30-day temporary tag from the dealer allowing them time to visit the DMV, pay sales tax and title the car.
I see an increasing number of cars and trucks on the road with expired temporary tags. People driving $75-100k SUVs and trucks with expired plates because they can’t afford, or choose not, to pay the 9.5% sales tax. No title No personal property taxes paid either.
Infuriating for those of us that drive legally and pay taxes.
They could be illegals driving those cars.
And how many don’t have licenses or insurance?
Maybe some but not the vast majority I see driving around.
My guess is they overextend themselves to buy the car and don’t have the $9k to pay taxes or just put it off. The late penalty is $25 a month up to a $200 maximum. Police stopped enforcing during COVID. Not a lot of short-term downside.
It will eventually catch up to them if they try to sell or trade-in the vehicle without a title.
This is most likely because even the “Free Trade” betrayal of American workers was a one-time drop in costs, or one-time every time they added a new product to the NAFTA/WTO/MFN list.
Every time they allowed a new Cheating foreign player to enter the American market, certain prices dropped one time, but wages also dropped as the previous high-value jobs were destroyed.
But because the policy was about enriching the new Financial Class, they would destroy any benefits to the Working Class, whether one-time or not, by further depreciating the currency with ever-increasing expansion of the money supply, among other measures.
As every single job of value was systematically stolen from America, resulting in a temporarily cheaper good, they would simultaneously cancel the benefit out by trashing the currency. But after a period of time you run out of value to steal from America and you are only left with further depreciating the currency in order to keep increasing asset prices for your wealthy allies in the Financial Class and Wall Street, in order to keep them on your side. The stock market is all that matters, you know.
So it was inevitable that we as Americans would arrive at a point where our currency was completely depreciated and where the goods that we purchased with that currency had been squeezed of all value, to be made at the cheapest possible place, of the cheapest possible material, with the least environmental or labor law regulation. And at that point further burning of the currency only leads to higher and higher prices for the garbage goods, but this time you have zero quality working class jobs and zero quality goods. A systematic impoverishing and theft of an entire class of citizenry.
I suppose the real surprise is that amidst this systematic and massive suppression and financial destruction, the American workers were somehow able to polevault a defender into the halls of power, considering how they have apparently suppressed this phenomenon from occurring anywhere else in the Western world. We were really quite close, and might still be, to a complete destruction of the power of the blue-collar class and the establishment of a quasi-Financial-Class dictatorship, in alliance with foreign anti-American dictatorships. Of course we hope that that is not the case and that Liberation is coming for our fellow citizens. Godspeed to Trump.
Well said.
Someone can come up with an affordable vehicle. Get rid of all the bells and whistles, remove most of the tech/internet features and give the masses a basic, reliable car. Good on gas, comfortable, stylish and utilitarian so people can get to work or school safely. There is always another market to be discovered when some goods become obsolete and won’t sell. Build it and they will buy if it fills a need.
Yes! A car that can work on yourself again! No computer chips or boards. Straight out of 1940-50 but with newer frames, bodies, etc. Bring back guys in the driveway fixing their car!
“car manufacturers and dealers”
As an adjunct to the tariff moves, the auto industry is in need of de-regulation. Affordability is to some degree driven by regulatory requirement. US auto makers produce vehicles I want to buy, but they are regulated out of the US market and only available in other countries. Light pick up, diesel motor, 4×4.
A little memory loss perhaps. Your answer is in the impact of POTUS Trump’s first term tariffs (especially on China).
Not silly but sensible, and sobering to think that that’s the current state of play for many if not most Americans, and even so, the vast majority of our grifter Congress would still be merrily driving us into the ground and receiving kickbacks for it, if not for PT.
Didn’t the senate pass a bill that we can’t tariff Canada? I read four republicans voted with the democrats. Is that not true?
Yes it is, and it will have to pass the House too, and they will have to come up with a 2/3rds majority to override President Trump’s veto witch they won’t.
Useless gesture by the Senate. It is going nowhere in the House, and even if it did, it would be vetoed by President Trump.
They are peeing in dark pants. They get a warm feeling yet nobody notices.
🤣 🤣 🤣
Unfortunately though, it gives cover to the dems and media to keep attacking Trump.
True but it is all show as Trump will veto it should it ever reach his desk. There is no House bill that I know of and the R majority there is unlikely to take up the Senate bill.
Twas just a resolution by the Senate anyway, not a bill. The net effect is Rand Paul outted himself as a Romney like Senator.
Muh Principles! 🤪
he definitely has a red hue…
Not smart … so we close the border down and Canada gets in bed with China, way more than they already are, and in six months there’s a Chinese invasion to add to the million military age Chinese men that are already here. An invasion of a country that makes nothing of its own, sixty eight percent of the nation is obese, the leaders have given away the war stockpile while enriching themselves and 400 Americans a day die from fentanyl poisoning … Yeah that’s gonna work …
Seems you have this one all gamed out. You should run for President!
Got AI Bot?
Hello bot
Probably not. 😂😂😂
But thanks for playing.
Perhaps it would shock the Canadians into a better appreciation of their current situation. Thus far the Canadian public seems to have its eyes wide shut and its ears hanging on every word of the MSM propaganda.
Don’t usually hear doom from you Thomas?
It would be a bit of a problem of using the ALCAN highway and railroads though which would mean all transport to Alaska would be shipped.
Why is that? We built the road without Canadian permission.
Try to shut it down!
Oh by the way, good job covering for one of the bot groups. Are you there handler or are you one?
Thomas Jefferson… Monticello… get it? 🙄
Advocating for Americans to continue accepting the economic r*ping of their country, the theft of their industrial base and jobs, and the impoverishing of their children out of fear that their “democratic” neighbor to the north might send millions of authoritarian chinese soldiers to invade is a new one, but I guess the propaganda budgets at the CCP might be getting pinched a bit by the recent trade skirmish.
“Accept our theft or we will literally invade!” LMAO
Even obese people can shoot a gun and the stockpile is being replenished.
Stellantis is using the Trump tariffs as cover for why these plants are being temporarily idled (2 weeks in Windsor. 1 month in Mexico but workers still paid).
Stellantis’ U.S. brands have been drowning in unsold inventory since mid-2024. Their inventory rose to 152 days, twice the industry average 76 days.
This is about reducing inventories that occurred due to mismanagement and well before any new tariffs.
Of course, media and politicians will happily blame the new tariffs but that is a false narrative.
Exactly – this was planned prior to Tariff announcement.
I thought Trump exempted Pharma, Chips, Lumber.
From the Gateway Pundit:
Ford Rolls Out Employee Pricing to All Americans Effective Immediately, Just Hours After Trump’s Tariffs Hit: ‘Same Deal Our Workers Get’
Read story here: https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/04/ford-rolls-employee-pricing-all-americans-just-hours/
Well I lived this scenario long ago with GM rolling out that for dealership employees, pretty sure it is the same deal…. only on the inventory that is available at the moment which is the crap they had to build to stay in CAFE standards which means the smallest engine models ie 4-cylinder engines in crap that needs a minimum of 6 & probably 8 to be useful …. those are the ones that already sold.
The Canadian buck is up against the US Dollar. I am calling this a head fake.

Market commentary is that today’s FX dynamic is due to the repatriation of US assets.
Basically, a lot of foreigners have been investing in the US markets since our markets have been the hot hand (offering the best returns). As the market is showing weakness, they are taking their money/assets back to their country of origin.
This is likely a short-term phenomenon.
What a tool.
The movie The Hunt for Red October taught me that politicians know who they are and how well they are suited to the job of lying for a living.
Again, what a tool.
not sure why President Trump would continue to play this game
Hours after President Trump announced Liberation Day
Four Uniparty Republicans – Sens. Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky; Susan Collins, of Maine; and Lisa Murkowski, of Alaska, sided with Democrats in voting for a resolution that would repeal the emergency declaration that permitted Trump to levy taxes on Canada.
The resolution likely won’t survive the GOP-controlled House, but its passage was a small victory for Democrats looking for their best attack line before the midterms.
Trump:
“The Senate Bill is just a ploy of the Dems to show and expose the weakness of certain Republicans, namely these four, in that it is not going anywhere because the House will never approve it and I, as your President, will never sign it.
The president said the four Republicans have been “extremely difficult to deal with” and “unbelievably disloyal”
Never let an opportunity to expose a fake conservative go to waste.
Rand Paul is bogus, always has been.
Yes he is worse than Trudeau. Meanwhile the federal court found Tamara Lich and Chris Barber guilty of “mischief” this morning in Ottawa for the trucker convoy, sentencing TBD. So much corruption!
President Trump has been uncharacteristically nice to Mark Carney. I follow this guy and this worries me.
Does Mark Carney have SECRET LEVERAGE on Trump? Powder Keg About to BLOW
DD
At this point in the game and given Trump’s age the only crap anyone could use on Trump would be 200% proof of him having a slew of body bags in his past. Don’t think that happening.
Wish they would get Obama, The Clintons and Bidens for their stash of body bags.
It is called diplomacy. Being Diplomatic at statesman level is what President Trump had always been known for until he came down the elevator when he was rebranded by the usurpers. He is a class act, knowing which fight arena calls for which punches.
PDJT. Master Statesman.
I wouldn’t worry about that until all deals become final. The whole thing is negotiations. How do you negotiate with someone at this stage while being antagonistic? Canada’s government is very worried as they should be. 20% of Canada’s GDP depends on its tariff policies. Nothing exposes policies which depend on import tariffs primarily with the US quite like an economic collapse which will happen as they go down this road. No amount of gaslighting will convince Canadian voters nothing bad is happening.
Trump throws a variety of positions at his target usually, but a lot of the time he will begin with niceties if it is a brand new leader or brand new engagement. Trust me, if he deems it necessary, he won’t have an issue flipping his stance towards Carney. It’s just part of his bargaining process.
“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak” – Sun Tzu
Ok let’s go.
LOL..good luck there pussycat…
NO MERCY!
Doesn’t get it does he.
Canada currently gets 87% of their toilet paper from the US. What would Canadians do if we turned off that off?
Think about that Carney before flushing your economy in a hissy fit.
Family cloth.
They have lots of leaves.
CUSMA 😂
In Mexico they may say MUSCA! 😏
Long time since American made Mopar.
Nice of Stellantis to put out a statement this PM (4/03) that the U.S. Plant closure in Warren had nothing to do with the Tariffs.
This could get interesting.
As I told the person I stole it from–I heard Canada has lots of maple leaves. LOL..
Canadians would become toilet paper locusts, swarm over the border, and devour our supplies.
If I remember correctly there are products not really medical that one can’t take out of or into Mexico or Canada. It has been quite a few years since I’ve been to Canada so can’t remember what products they were.
America could do the same with TP and make it a product that one cannot take out of America.
Old Sears catalogs will become a hot commodity on the Canadian black market. 🤣
If the Canuckistanis vote for Carney and the libs, even after what Trudeau and the libs did to them for the last several years, then they get what they deserve.
LMAO, thanks for explaining the CUSMA… I was wondering what the hell he was talking about before I got to the end. What a joke.
After reading Sundance post, I sort of agree with Sundance, maybe Trump should shut the Canada border and stop all trade, and place USA Troops at the boarder. Nobody from Canada can Enter our Country!
Well, I might have gone a few steps further then what Sundance was saying, forgive me. It is just that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pisses me off.
No sympathy for Dodge and Jeep dropping V8 engines or killing off models in order to go full Green-tard. They deserve to be punished.
Canada, on the other hand, needs group therapy sessions to fix the mental illness that a large part of their population is obviously suffering from.
Oh, Canada. 🤦🏼♂️
TDS is alive and well, a sickness
I want my 92 Dodge Ram, Cummins Diesel back.
My 2025 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, under the Stellantis brand FCA US LLC (formerly Chrysler), says it is made in the USA.
Here in southern Maine Jeeps are popular as they can deal with our lousy roads, many unpaved, with no problem…especially during mud season.
I don’t understand why the frozen blueberries, in both my local grocery stores, are from Canada and so is much of the real maple syrup. Maine is supposed to be the “blueberry capital of the world”, so why are there no local blueberries available except during the summer at local farmers markets??? We just had Maine Maple Sunday, with local sugar houses open to the public and selling all kinds of maple based products we don’t find in our grocery stores. I look forward to finding more Maine products in local store.
I still have my 2004 Wrangler TJ, one of the last real Jeeps pre-Stellantis. But my current daily driver, far better than any Jeep I’ve owned, is a 2022 For Bronco OB Sasquatch.
The multinational corporations contract for the crops. Maine blueberries are contracted ahead of time from the large producers in Maine. If you approach a large blueberry producer in Maine they will not sell you any blueberries and in fact they cannot legally sell you any blueberries (its in their contract). The ones you purchase at the farmers market are from small independent producers.
In Virginia this is exactly what happens with large apple orchards, their crops are contracted for and they cannot legally sell even a box of apples to anyone else. Only small independent orchards will sell you local apples.
This article from Sundance goes in depth on the capturing of for example all blueberries worldwide and then setting prices in each country to suit themselves.
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2022/02/07/multinational-controls-over-commodity-inventory-continues-to-drive-inflation-even-higher/#more-227031
Thank you for the info and the link. So the same applies to the other famous Maine crop…potatoes.
There are local orchards and fruit farms that offer “pick your own” pricing and I’m lucky a friend took me to a very productive wild blueberry patch where we can pick for free.
My little town has an orchard owned by the wife of famous writer Stephen King. It was an orchard that had shut down and had been cut up into a housing subdivision. King bought it and also bought out all those who’d purchased a lot for development. The orchard was popular and added a bakery, pizza oven, solar panel field, house for seasonal workers and even offered pruning workshops. It abruptly closed last year and it now owns the town over $18K for their 2024 tax bill. Rumor mill says the orchard was a money pit and the decision was made to stop the bleeding. Other local family-owned orchards have shut down years ago. A sad state of affairs in this state the Democommies have destroyed.
Yes Linda they ran a scam on we the normal citizens of the USA these many years now. Some of that scam just got ended yesterday!
bless you and yours – monti
Thank you! God’s blessing to you you and yours also!
I believe it’s the same thing for Florida oranges. I was told that Tropicana buys the bulk of most oranges in the state of Florida for their orange juice, so it is hard to get a Florida orange in Florida unless you buy it from a farmers market.
What were tariffs on each other before this Equity Confrontation, after USA upped ours on Canada, and the Carney increase back?
> just cancel all trade with Canada and begin an immediate embargo and border blockade.
Sure just cancel everything. Why not.
Did Sundance write this or someone else?
This seems to be a rather ignorant and uninformed and narrow point of view on trade.
Not what I would expect by quality of regular posts.
Can you imagine what happens if one of US top 3 trading partners drops?
United States: US$435 billion (76.5% of total Canadian exports)
https://www.worldstopexports.com/canadas-top-import-partners/
It wont be pretty for Canada but it sure as heck will have NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES for the US as well.
This policy by layman economists that seems to be simplifying world trade to 2 word catch phrases is going to churn out some rather unpleasant consequences I am afraid. That we have yet to bear full witness to.
Surely nobody in the political class seems to have a full grasp, and sure as heck not in the “commenting class” either it seems. We should save the confrontational “Booyah USA USA” attitude for NFL matches, but that is just IMHO.
“Surely nobody in the political class seems to have a full grasp, and sure as heck not in the “commenting class” either it seems.”
Your words genius.
Coming here calling the owner of the site stupid and then slinging mud on the commenters here.
The only dumbass I see is you
‘Layman economists’. Funny, cuz ‘professional economists’ have done the country so well……
The term “layman economists” is the tell as to just who this creature is. And his name is close enough to a former US senator to really make one’s skin crawl!
Or the 2 killer brothers from CA
I realize that YOU are the one that is ignorant and uninformed, but you actually haven’t made a case – AT ALL – as to how Sundance’s proposal would damage the US.
The US ceasing trade with Canada would almost immediately nuke Canada’s economy and its GDP would plummet, because they structured FAR TOO MUCH of their economy on simply selling to America.
America, on the other hand, sells very little, comparatively speaking to Canada. So if the US stopped all trade with Canada, yes, there would be a slight reduction in GDP commensurate with Canada’s % of exports, but there would ALSO be an immediate INCREASE in GDP with the elimination of the trade deficit with Canada, and those billions remaining home.
So not only would those billions remain home, recirculate, and add to GDP, but the US would almost certainly find new markets to sell those products to.
Again, you haven’t even REMOTELY made the case as to how Sundance’s proposal would damage the US, or on what planet you get off writing unsubstantiated claims and then calling others ignorant. Either substantiate your defamatory statements or slither away.
Maybe his real name is Krugman?
Let me dumb it down for you – Pres Trump is swinging the economic equivalent of Excalibur and Carney a broken Victoriaville.
rename the great lakes to lakes of america
So how will that work when a Canadian comes down to the U.S. and purchases a vehicle here?
Do they have to pay 25% to Canada just to bring it back into their country?
