Two people close to the administration, overheard the brother of someone who works at the White House saying something about tariffs. Therefore, it has to be Howard Lutnick’s fault, or something.
Another source “familiar with the situation,” because he looked up The White House on Google to see a map of the area, said it was “100%” accurate that annoyance with Lutnick is growing, reiterating concern about him talking too loosely in public as well as inserting himself into the administration action.

If they don’t bring in the cars they are just eating the expense. If they bring in the cars they have to write a check for 25% of the value. It takes 5 years to build a car factory. What do they do in the meantime? Where do they get the billions to build the factories? Interest rates are at 8 and 9%. UAW union contracts are notoriously insane. Remember, never buy a car made on Monday or Friday? Detroit auto workers are extremely overpaid. The plants in Mexico and Canada brought down the price of new cars. Manufacturers had a bargaining chip with the UAW. Not any more!
Unless these tariffs are a bluff or negotiating tool they will bankrupt every American car company and then the only cars you can buy will be foreign!

For a very long time now if you wanted an American made car you had to buy a foreign car. Toyota Tundras are made in San Antonio, Texas where as a Ford Ranger was made in Juarez, Mexico. Crazy. Honda plants in Tennessee but Ford plants in Windsor, Canada. Replacement parts from Taiwan and China are pure garbage, especially since Covid. Reigning in the EPA and getting rid of the UAW would greatly help our auto industry. Born and raised in farm implement capitol of the World and watched the UAW drive all those jobs away. One of the reasons I left.

If Trump can lose the anger, drop the scowl, stop diminishing our friends and rivals while making common cause with our enemies, and generally start acting like he did in his first term, well, that would be huge for the stock market!
As far as the stock markets are concerned, though, we need less Jimmy Carter, more Ronald Reagan. Bottom line, maybe Wednesday isn’t de-liberation day.
