That may be true but there is a much higher baseline of corruption when Liberals are in power. They just nakedly set up slush funds under the guise of investments in order to shovel tax dollars to their cronies. The final session of our last Parliament was completely paralyzed by this; Parliament ordered the government to turn over documentation regarding the so-called green slush fund, where hundreds of millions of dollars got handed out like candy to Liberal-connected firms with no evidence that it achieved anything at all. The Liberals stone-cold refused. No other business could be conducted because the debate on this was considered a matter of Parliamentary privilege so it superseded all other matters. The matter died when Trudeau prorogued Parliament and then Carney had Parliament dissolved for the election.
A re-elected Liberal majority will bury the slush fund paperwork never to be seen. They will have completely gotten away with it.
Again, this is Canada’s problem. Our tolerance for Liberal corruption used to astound me. Now it just saddens me. I think we’ve very little hope left for any meaningful course correction.

I’m thinking of Mitt Romney’s final rallies in 2012. The last one was in New Hampshire IIRC and was packed. Romney was convinced he was going to win. Well, we all know how that played out.

Not sure we actually know who called who…some behind the scenes messaging could have taken place, such as moving the US auto companies back to US soil and then it was Carney who called Trump. Canada is a beautiful place filled with a lot of great people. We’re neighbors and should be the strongest of friends. But friends shouldn’t take advantage of one another. We’re $36T in debt, partially because we’ve been taken advantage of by everyone and we’re broke and tired of it.

I have never voted for a Liberal in my life. Being from Western Canada, our elections are almost always determined before our votes are even counted. Many of us are wide awake but are at the mercy of our Eastern brethren.
Trump is not capitulating. And only those in the echo chamber would opine that “Canadians” writ large are laughing at Trump, or think he is either a joke or un-believable. There are lots of Canadian idiots, but hopefully on April 28th we in the Great White North will be pleasantly surprised at how many exceptions there are to that rule.

Trump is negotiating. He laid out the US position and applied maximum leverage to get Carney to begin negotiating. The US has actual leverage not just rhetoric. Trump has the nerves of steel to push and push hard despite harsh criticism.
Carney started out with empty bluster and posturing. But now he is starting to negotiate. He knows he will have to make concessions.
Trump has not shifted his position at all. Carney is who has begun to move. But the process is only starting.
Canada may need a dose of medicine to sober up. If they think they can go it alone without the US, let them try for a while and see how it’s working for them.

The move raises questions whether Britain can contribute to a peacekeeping force in Ukraine should a ceasefire be agreed, according to the outlet
Estonian officials are concerned about their national security due to a significant reduction in British troops and tanks deployed as part of NATO’s contingent in the Baltic nation, The Times reported on Wednesday.
The draw down also raises questions about Britain’s ability to send “peacekeepers” to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, according to the outlet.
Riho Terras, former commander of the Estonian Defense Forces and now MEP, told Times Radio that the UK appears unable to provide the brigade-sized force, typically around 3,000 to 5,000 troops, it had pledged.
“The UK has difficulties to put together one brigade to participate in operations. I see it in Estonia every day,” Terras said.
He warned that the British military’s financial struggles were becoming visible on the ground, citing the UK’s likely inability to fully participate in Exercise Hedgehog — one of NATO’s largest training operations in the region– this coming May.
“The UK is not coming with the full power to the exercises because they have problems with the financing,” Terras said, adding “Of course it concerns me that we are not taking seriously our defense.”

What he is saying is that 25% tariffs will put GM, Ford and Chrysler out of business because almost 50% of American autos are made in Mexico and Canada. Even the cars made in the US have 40% foreign parts which are mainly the engines and transmissions which hold patents so we just can’t build them without paying!

The engine piece I don’t see as a problem. Transmissions might be an issue, but we know how to do that.

There are going to be difficulties after 4 decades of offshore outsourcing coupled with just-in-time delivery scheduling for components.
We are just going to have to deal with it. Wall Street was responsible for the outsourcing, so anything from them with their slanted gloom & doom prognosticating is suspect.
It is also a practical reality that the days of producing a 100% USA made auto are over.
The complexity of autos and sourcing the components are just one reason why. Some patented devices and products necessary for production are only made in locations outside the USA.
