President Trump has given remarks supporting National Security Advisor Mike Waltz during an interview with NBC.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump stood by his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, after The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief was accidentally added to a private, high-level chat on the messaging app Signal where military plans were being discussed.
“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” Trump said Tuesday in a phone interview with NBC News.
When asked what he was told about how Goldberg came to be added to the Signal chat, Trump said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”
Trump said Goldberg’s presence in the chat had “no impact at all” on the military operation.
The president expressed confidence in his team, saying he was not frustrated by the events leading up to The Atlantic’s story. The situation, Trump said, was “the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one.” (more)
The rest of the DC setup is transparently clear. (1) Goldberg held the story until the day before a long-scheduled Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. (2) The SSCI then used the hearing to blast the heads of the Trump administration intelligence silos on the issue of “classified” information in the text messages.
♦ The next act in this well-known performance will be for Democrats to demand the release of the Signal App transcript, if it’s not classified, then there’s nothing to hide.
♦ Public pressure via narrative drum-pounding will continue to increase, until the chat messages are released to congress. [Keep in mind, Jeffrey Goldberg likely already has them.]
♦ Everyone in the chat group will then be told they must recuse themselves from internal silo determinations as to the classified status of the conversation. More public pressure will be generated to achieve this “position of conflict” demand.
♦ The Intelligence Community, without the heads of the silos – likely leveraging the internal investigative agents of the FBI (INSD), will then say the content of the chat was indeed classified, TSCI level. There will be weeks and months of leaks to the media as each granular detail is discussed ad infinitum.
♦ The cabinet members will then face the drumbeat of resignation demands, and/or useful impeachment fodder for ‘lying to congress’ during today’s Senate Select Committee on Intelligence testimony.
At least that should be the anticipated approach by the “Seven Ways from Sunday” group, who operate to defend the interests of the Intelligence Community from agency heads like those who were on the Signal App chat group.

I have no experience with this app. But with only the app’s tutorial found on Youtube, it’s impossible that adding this journo was an accident. What I don’t know is if a person joining is announced. I suspect it would be… NORMALLY which would mean the people already in conversation would have known unless a FALSE NAME was used but that wouldn’t make sense either.
That said, US Intel operatives can compromise ANY phone at any time. The app itself is open source which means it can be modified at the source code level, recompiled and installed to the users’ devices changing the behavior of the apps. But a compromised device is really all that’s necessary as they could simply capture screenshots as presented by the journo.
To produce the output in this article, all that is needed is a story line and the screenshots. The screenshots could have been presented by rogue intel actors with instructions of the story line for publication.
We have NO reason to believe the journo was even in the chat at all. All we know is that this article was published and that it contains screenshots of the chat which has apparently been confirmed as genuine. No one has confirmed the journo’s presence in the chat is genuine and we should all recognize that there are OTHER WAYS (at least six ways from Sunday) to create this story… and they are far more simple than actually inserting a journo into a live conversation using this app.

I’m a green pea when it comes to this stuff, but it seems to me that if the communists wanted to make Trump’s team appear incompetent–and thereby lay the groundwork for someone’s termination or resignation–why was Goldberg the one and only lucky fellow to have been included in the chat? Wouldn’t it make more sense to create a wider security breach/failure by having multiple unauthorized individuals mistakenly invited into the chat?
Of course, the usual suspects will try to spin gold out of this, but I don’t see what the big deal is. IF Goldberg wasn’t supposed to be there, why do they expect us to believe that he was the only one and that there weren’t others?

I have held and attended group meetings online. All participants are visible by the organizing party unless he/she wants to hide their participation. Of course the meeting could be compromised by someone with technical knowhow.
Hey Team Trump, this is a repeat of the 2017 elimination of Mike Flynn as National Security Advisor. Don’t fall for it. Most likely, somebody close to Walz on the NSC – somebody with access to his accounts – sent the Signal chat invite to Goldberg. The express purpose was to set him up and get him eliminated. The NSA is a massive power center in the White House and that person needs to be fully under Deep State control because Walz is not Senate confirmed.
Part II of this story is the use of Signal instead of the controlled and monitored networks the IC and DoD maintain – JWICS, SIPRNet, etc. Every chat, IM, email, file, keystroke, etc. on those government classified networks is captured and analyzed. That’s almost certainly a primary source of leaks from the IC to places like the New York Times and Washington Post. “People will knowledge of the matter” = “spies monitoring White House communications over classified IT and telecomm networks”.
So, just like how the Trump Team did not use the “presidential transition” team inside the permanent government, Team Trump is using Signal to evade monitoring by the Deep State.

Is this staffer someone hired after Jan 20 or a hold-over from before Jan 20? I would be prepared to accept that this person is inexperienced and made a mistake if hired after the inauguration by a Waltz or some other Republican manager who is also new on the job. However, no one who is a hold-over from before the inauguration should be allowed any benefit of the doubt. In fact, no hold-over should be trusted at all (that would be over 2 million of them) until they have proven themselves honorable and trustworthy. If it was a hold-over, then this could have been a setup and that is the starting point from which anyone wanting to get to the bottom of this should proceed.

We don’t know anything yet. And Trump has effectively said “so what?” to this. What we know is the story in the article and that the screenshots have been confirmed. Unless you’re willing to take the time to experiment with Signal, I am operating under the assumption that (1) the invitation cannot be done by accident as the invitation would require either having that contact already on the device or the email address for the contact so that an invitation could be sent (2) to produce these screenshots, all any IC operator would need to do is compromise one of the devices and take screenshots, then share them with the journo with instructions to write the story as we saw presented. This covers for the rogue IC operators. And if the meeting WAS compromised with this journo joining, how did no one see the message indicating that “this guy” joined? I doubt such a thing would escape notice. And if you want to guess at whose phone(s) was/were compromised, look at the names associated with the messages in each screenshot. If you see a name, it’s not going to be from the compromised phone.
I think it’s useful and important to note that the published screenshots were of TWO DIFFERENT PHONES. If this journo captured both, why would he use two different phones? If not, then the lack of messages from “Me” in this collection of messages suggests there are at least two phones compromised.
If we had a complete list of names in the chats, the compromised phones might be identified based on elimination.
Trump might have already been advised of this and, as we saw in C19, he “went along with it” without giving in to the intentions of the bad actors. If he tips his hand, they would undoubtedly escalate.

I don’t understand how anyone – I mean, not just in the White House – but any American would conduct a meeting on an app and expect it to not be “leaky” –
remembering the app called “Angry Birds” that was so popular – turned out to be “leaky” and somehow someway the NSA was able to scoop up tons of user private information –
if the Director of the CIA, Mr. Ratliffe actually and truly said that the Signal app was on his computer when he started there and he just assumed it was OK? That sounds too trusting or passive, IMHO.
My Mom and I found all 12 seasons (1984-1996) of “Murder, She Wrote” available through the Peacock channel – last night, in one of the episodes (which I think is in season 8), Jessica Fletcher had her computer set up to help her with her college job (she was teaching a writing class) and the guy doing the set up had loaded a program onto her computer without her knowledge which would go in and scan whatever she had typed on her computer and then “send” everything to another computer – with the plan being that the person who set up this system would find things with which he could blackmail her (as he had with other people whose computers he had also set up).
Someone had tried to reach Jessica on the phone and they had gotten a busy signal but how could that be? Apparently the computer was in the dormant mode (electricity on but sleeping) and “woke up” to send the file at 4 in the morning. Anyway, it seemed so anciently old, the entire set-up but really, what else is new, that people aren’t always looking for ways to get in where they are not supposed to be! It’s only gotten worse!

Based on the reports of what was said in the meeting, it is obvious that this was a set up for the Atlantic. The conversation centered around how to tell the story for the greatest effect. Several points were made. First, the Houti’s had to be dealt with. Second, only the US has the capability to do it. Third, it is the EU that benefits most, so they should pay. Finally, how do we break this news so it is most clearly and effectively promulgated without inappropriate backlash.
So ask yourself, what is the conversation? That the US was bad to attack and secure the Suez canal for shipping? Are the useful idiots among the dems complaining about that? No, they were distracted by a shinny object. Seems everyone on this site was as well.
The White House has said, No harm, no foul. Was there a second purpose to the meeting–to identify an unauthorized leaker? Maybe, but I don’t think so. I think the leak was deliberate and well known to everyone including the President. Not that leaks happen in DC….
