President Trump has given remarks supporting National Security Advisor Mike Waltz during an interview with NBC.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump stood by his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, after The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief was accidentally added to a private, high-level chat on the messaging app Signal where military plans were being discussed.
“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” Trump said Tuesday in a phone interview with NBC News.
When asked what he was told about how Goldberg came to be added to the Signal chat, Trump said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”
Trump said Goldberg’s presence in the chat had “no impact at all” on the military operation.
The president expressed confidence in his team, saying he was not frustrated by the events leading up to The Atlantic’s story. The situation, Trump said, was “the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one.” (more)
The rest of the DC setup is transparently clear. (1) Goldberg held the story until the day before a long-scheduled Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. (2) The SSCI then used the hearing to blast the heads of the Trump administration intelligence silos on the issue of “classified” information in the text messages.
♦ The next act in this well-known performance will be for Democrats to demand the release of the Signal App transcript, if it’s not classified, then there’s nothing to hide.
♦ Public pressure via narrative drum-pounding will continue to increase, until the chat messages are released to congress. [Keep in mind, Jeffrey Goldberg likely already has them.]
♦ Everyone in the chat group will then be told they must recuse themselves from internal silo determinations as to the classified status of the conversation. More public pressure will be generated to achieve this “position of conflict” demand.
♦ The Intelligence Community, without the heads of the silos – likely leveraging the internal investigative agents of the FBI (INSD), will then say the content of the chat was indeed classified, TSCI level. There will be weeks and months of leaks to the media as each granular detail is discussed ad infinitum.
♦ The cabinet members will then face the drumbeat of resignation demands, and/or useful impeachment fodder for ‘lying to congress’ during today’s Senate Select Committee on Intelligence testimony.
At least that should be the anticipated approach by the “Seven Ways from Sunday” group, who operate to defend the interests of the Intelligence Community from agency heads like those who were on the Signal App chat group.

I heard speculation from Charlie Kirk that they may have intended to add the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer into the group because most of the discussion was actually about the economic impact of the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea. They might have picked the wrong “JG” out of their address book, Jeffrey Goldberg instead of Jamieson Greer. Apparently participants are often identified only by initials in Signal.
The info about the actual attacks appear to be accidental comments that various people slipped into this discussion group. There was one statement where Waltz tells all the participants to check the emails on their secure systems. So they were trying to keep classified info off this Signal chat. But a few comments did slip into the Signal chat that Goldberg is overhyping. Goldberg claims he is withholding some more sensitive info (trying to paint himself as a responsible patriot, <cough, cough.> More innuendo than red meat.

If the journo was already a contact with the app installed, “maybe” but otherwise an invitation email would have to have been sent meaning the staffer would have needed to KNOW the email address of the journo and enter it in correctly and send.

I heard a good unpacking of this situation on local talk radio this morning.
Yes they were yapping about this stuff using Signal and maybe that was wrong, BUT then they played a clip by a guest on FOX last night that said that he knows for a fact that everyone in DC, in the government, they ALL use Signal.
He uses Signal, his sources us Signal, no they are not supposed to do this BUT THE REALITY IS that they DO.
I was thinking about the workplace chatter that we all have and the fact that many people have important jobs, but yet they still need to chatter.
I’m reminded of working in the hospital and seeing the team stand around and discuss a patient.
It just organically happens day in and day out as part of the job- no one is checking to see if the janitor happens to be mopping the floor down the hall.. listening.
There is just this assumption that ‘we’re all in this together’ on the same team, working towards the same goal openly discussing things as needed with work. We become numb to it because it’s our normal.
I can understand how this all happened, I don’t think it’s the big deal that the reporter from the Atlantic is blowing it up into.

I’m not on Signal but I would think that you could have lists of contacts via classification like administration, media, etc.
I have Signal and Telegram on my de-Googled phone, but IDK anyone else that wants to use them.
So I have not been able to familiarize myself with it.
Apps vary. Even in the Android world, an app for a Samsung brand phone will differ a little from an LG phone.
I found that using different phones canvassing apps in 2016 for the Primaries. I went to NH, PA, SC, OH as well as NY as a NYer’s for Trump volunteer.

Have Kash Patel over at FBI say he is opening a counter-intel investigation into this potential security breach. Make it clear this is only a precaution because there is no clear evidence of wrongdoing. Tell everybody in Congress and everybody in media to back off or risk being charged with interfering with an open CI investigation. Make it clear that any committee hearings or interviewing witnesses or otherwise investigating would be viewed as interferenceRaid Jeffrey Goldberg’s house, The Atlantic, their editors and execs. Seize their phones, computers, electronic media, social media accounts and other documents/records. Say this is to prevent incidental release of any potential classified information.Slow roll the whole thing for six or more months until everybody forgets all about it. Lol, right on cue. As I’ve been writing all morning, the point of this setup is to remove Walz like they removed Flynn in 2017. The National Security Advisor is absolutely critical to stopping Trump. Therefore Flynn had to be removed, and how they’re trying to take out Walz.
Trump needs to just call this what it is and point out that he actually laughed when he saw “Conservative Inc. media” jump on the “fire Mike” bandwagon before they even knew what was going on. That means it was a setup and we’re not going to fall for that again.

Okay, the high-level meeting attendees discussed low-level military plans on Signal with a reporter in on the conversation, unbeknownst to them.

Because everyone knows the classified/encrypted government networks are fully monitored and controlled. Those networks allow the government to spy on the Trump team. So they go to Signal to evade monitoring by the CIA and others.
Most likely, this is an accidental mole hunt. Fire the “staffer” who leaked the call details to Goldberg and remove a likely mole from the White House. Then go through that person’s emails and cell phone texts and find out if they were taking orders from someone else.

They should constantly set up new chats that reset the invite list.

The SSCI (and House equivalent) is the result of the Church Committee.
The Committee set up the FISC and FISA to prevent the IC from unlawful surveillance. The Congressional committies are supposed to be the oversight.
So the IC just infiltrates and corrupts the system so they can keep doing what they were doing.

Identify the “staffer” (or sfaffers) who added Goldberg’s contact to Waltz’s Signal app in his phone, and identify who added Goldberg to this particular “Chat Group “.
Show video of the staffer being fired/escorted out of the building.
Find out why they did it and who, if anyone, put them up to it. Was he/she paid by Goldberg, or someone else, forced into it, or a willing mole?

First of all, if “people at this level” intend to discuss something of actual military interest, they would never(!) use “text chat,” nor anything like it, to do so. Likewise, they would never “accidentally” add a journalist. (Don’t blame “a staffer.”)
This was, effectively, “a very curious form of press release.”
They have military-grade encrypted communications systems at their immediate disposal. And, furthermore, their conversations and communications are monitored by staff, whose express purpose is to ensure that “accidental” (sic) security breaches do not occur, and to intervene immediately before they get a chance to. “That’s their staff duty, and a vitally-important duty it is.”
So – I really don’t have any idea “who dreamed this up,” but I damned well know that it was no “mistake.” Someone decided to stage this “conversation,” and to purposely include “a journalist” in it. “What were they thinking?”

I’m genuinely shocked that a consumer app like Signal, which is vulnerable to exploitation, is being utilized for official government purposes. That’s a textbook example of rookie-level incompetence. Pavel Durov has hinted that the Deep State might have a backdoor into Signal. Plus, Signal received $3 million in funding from the Open Technology Fund (OTF), which is supposedly tied to the intelligence community. And to top it off, with Katherine Maher having served on the board of directors… Signal is not to be trusted.
