Obviously, President Trump is not happy with the EU or with Germany specifically. Additionally, in President Trump’s first term, then U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Ric Grenell, delivered the message to Angela Merkel that President Trump was willing to move troops out of Germany. However, there’s no direct sourcing that President Trump is reinitiating that approach.
When we think about the arrows in the quiver of Trump to bring the EU to the peace negotiation table, the movement of U.S. troops stationed in the EU is one of those very targeted arrows. But the sourcing on the claim that it’s a current discussion point is not very affirming. So, proceed with caution.

President Trump has to put pressure on the EU to create the space for peace talks because it is the EU now supporting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his effort to keep the war going.
Ukraine is not NATO.
So, there is no US vested interest in adjudicating ANY action in this engagement.

But when I mentioned we wanted to reduce our military footprint there, they backpedaled. Our local base there dumped a lot of money into the local economy.

Russia has no incentive to stop now that Ukraine is without weapons and targeting assistance. And they haven’t. As U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s Administration continues with its increasingly fiery rhetoric when it comes to Europe and Ukraine; according to the The Telegraph, the United States has notified allies in NATO that it does not plan to participate in any further military exercises in Europe, besides those that have already been scheduled in 2025.
This follows reports from yesterday, that President Trump was considering the withdrawal of 35,000 active-duty U.S. troops from Germany to Hungary, while stating that the United States may not come to the defense of NATO member nations who were not spending a certain percent of their GDP on defense, telling reporters, “If you don’t pay your bills, we’re not going to participate. We’re not going to protect you.”

I screen the unsourced B.S. out. This Trump administration in particular, has a far more disciplined Cabinet. I highly doubt even the normal suspects (Rubio, e.g.) are speaking out of turn. However, there are literally thousands of senior SES types with Clinton-Bush-Obama-Biden backgrounds, i.e. literally full 30 year career cycles, who will use every government tool at their disposal to thwart the elected President’s agenda.
I’ve probably posted this 100 times, but until Democrats start paying their bill, start going to prison with significant sentences, none of this leftist partisan crap will end. Trump wants to dump Europe to focus on the real threat – China. There is no reason why US should not have good relations with Russia. He should. Just leave Ramstein as the sole air hub, or even better close it and make a new large hub in either Poland or Hungary. If moving to Poland or Hungary then tie in 1 army division there. Then pull out all of the other many many bases/garrisons etc. There is plenty of room to absorb the 30,000+ troops back at CONUS bases. Win-Win. Stop injecting funds into antagonistic ingrates European States, force them to have to take on more responsible for their own defense, AND with all of those personnel coming back it would majorily boost the local economies around the bases gaining them, sparking further US economy.
These 160,000 service men need to be redployed to our borders. Europe can take care of itself.
The war machine has an insatiable hunger for money and lives.
I’d like to have our troops pulled out of Europe. Let them handle their own defense. The problem is that they would probably screw it up again, as they always have.
If true, I don’t like this at all. The closer our troops get to the conflict, the easier it is for bad actors to conduct a false flag attack against US troops and blame Russia.
