Additionally, in President Trump’s first term, then U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Ric Grenell, delivered the message to Angela Merkel that President Trump was willing to move troops out of Germany. However, there’s no direct sourcing that President Trump is reinitiating that approach.
When we think about the arrows in the quiver of Trump to bring the EU to the peace negotiation table, the movement of U.S. troops stationed in the EU is one of those very targeted arrows. But the sourcing on the claim that it’s a current discussion point is not very affirming. So, proceed with caution.

I often review the headlines on Daily Mail for two reasons. One is they report world events and I don’t want to look at legacy media. The other reason is to check the headlines against the article content. Like you, I’ve noticed the discrepancy between the headline and content.
I do see that same problem on some of the conservative sites, but it is not as problematic as Daily Mail.
On Daily Mail the headlines often have very little to do with the content and sometimes nothing at all. And sometimes the headline is propaganda for the purpose of boosting progressive ideas. Sometimes the content is so badly written that you have no idea what they are trying to say.

I think the point is NATO expansion finally prodded Russia to act.
One may point out that NATO expansion antagonized Putin, but 47 has made clear to everyone that there is a path to ending the war, yet Putin is STILL upping the attacks. He may say he wants to end it, but his actions say otherwise. They are all nuts. And none of them see that there are elements that would be happy to see Christian Europe and Christian Russia destroy each other.
Trump has said he wants it to end, but UK and France haven’t. In fact they’re intensifying their war rhetoric, including France talking nukes.

you don’t demobilize because the numbers go down. you continue on, until you have subdued the enemy and then you must attend a presence to ensure the threat of force remains.

this is the same exact thing in this current stage of the UKR-RUS war. There is no meaningful negotiations and certainly nothing signed by either nation state that would elude to a cease fire. Until that happens, both sides have an interest to protect their forces…and yes, offensive combat does protect your forces. it is how war works. Long gone are the days when you could camp out in some high castle and wait out your enemy about the most. You are either in the field of operations delivering danger (grave danger…is there any other kind), or you are taking unnecessary risks assuming the enemy is just going to quit. Ukraine is not quitting. Russia is not quitting. Maybe they will. But until they both come to the table and sign a cease fire and that cease fire holds, we should not pretend either side is more of a monster than the other. WAR IS HELL. I wish this were not true, but it is.
This is WHY PRESIDENT TRUMP is doing everything in his power to get these two nations to settle into a peace. But until that happens and can be durable, we should not have unrealistic expectations that either side is going to lower the guns.

When we lived in Wales, on Sundays we would drive 6 miles from our small village into the nearby town to the newsagents to buy the Sunday papers.
The Telegraph all those years ago was thick and meaty with reliable, well sourced reporting. Conrad Black, now Lord Black who later would be imprisoned in this country and then pardoned by President Trump in his first term, was an editor of high journalistic standards.
Mark Steyn had a most enjoyable column in its weekly version the Daily Telegraph, as did one of the most brilliant essayists living, now retired Dr Theodore Dalrymple (aka Dr Anthony Daniels)…there were many others.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. If it was sold out, I would find myself hyperventilating…it was that good.

The Telegraph’s standards have sunk low. It trades on its former reputation as the best broadsheet in Britain with no peer which came close to the standards which once made reading it something that well informed people did.
All of this to say that using “a source close to the White House” as a basis for a bombshell story like this pretty much says it all…dabblers in speculation and seekers of shock headlines is what this poor ghost of its former self has desended to.
And as such, at the moment I give this “news article” the credibility it deserves.

I saw this posted somewhere else earlier. About President Trump being “angry” about Europe wanting to continue the war, it’s my personal opinion that President Trump is a strategic thinker. It’s my opinion he knew before engaging Ukraine who has been behind the war and where the pressure points are.
His great talent is maneuvering to gain a position of strength regardless of the problem he is working to solve. In applying a strategic and usually unexpected move, the opposition exposes itself publicly which ultimately works to President Trumps advantage.
I don’t believe he responds out of emotion; his moves are logical and well thought out. If he pulls troops out of Germany, it will be to strengthen the US position and gain negotiating advantage.
The goal is world peace.
When it comes to declaring and fighting war – it is either obvious to the whole nation we must, or absent that total consensus, we must not fight.
Which is why it is *supposed* to take an act of Congress … to slow things down, develop consensus. Lives are on the line when the sword is unsheathed, including that of our nation itself.

Withdrawal of troops and assets sent by the last administration to “reinforce” NATO, that are NO part of the permanent force assigned to Europe.
Pull out of any commitments to basing troops in Romania.
Pull back any troops assigned to the Baltic States, I like this one give what A-Holes they have been.
… then start the draw down in Europe with withdrawal of POMCUS Equipment stored in Europe.
… then we get to actual draw down of UNITS assigned to Europe.
If there is a draw down, I expect it is actually returning troops and assets sent to Europe during JoeBama’s regime as part of the saber rattling AUGMENTATION done when the Ukraine Conflict started. Also, STOP the corresponding rotation of UNITs.
This would send a very clear message that the US does not consider anything done by the EU as invoking the NATO Treaty.
This may also be a DOGE finding to save money in the DoD budget.

Germany is heading towards a “political enema.” Already, Merz is reneging on his campaign promises of more restrictive immigration because he formed a bloc with the Socialist Democratic Party to keep the “scary” AfD out of the power structure. The SPD had their collective posteriors handed to them in the election but, arguably, have more political capital now despite their poor showing. The writing is on the wall. CDU is going to shrink as they compromise with the Socialists. AfD is going to grow.
This will not sit well with the younger generations of Germany (AfD primary support).
If the US and Russia get into a real war, with the combined ICBM mutual destruction capabilities, it’ll be all over in 45 minutes.
That’s probably quicker than the 85,000 US troops in Europe can mobilize.

Wish we would start slowly pulling troops out of Germany. A little here, a little there. Bring back some equipment for “replacing later.” Don’t give the DC blob, RINOs, and media a full story to sensationalize. Eventually (end of term) we just pull the plug altogether.

We all here know that Donald Trump has a history of trying to clean up wars, end them, not start them.
He wants Peace On Earth desperately.. he says this, he works so hard towards this goal, and it’s not a new thing at all.

SO as he’s working on cleaning up this Ukraine disaster, he’s certainly not then going to allow one war to get wrapped up only to be replaced by another one.
I’m getting more and more frustrated with the pain in the ass Europeans myself, so I get it.
It appears that they are not only trying to keep the war going in Ukraine going, BUT to also create the conditions that lead to civil war right there among them..
I can imagine that Trump is trying to wrap up the Ukraine mess and also pull all that he can away from the the Europeans to force change there, a reset, to deescalate the growing anger that many are saying is going to lead to hot civil war there.
SO having said all this, it does make sense to me that he may be at least thinking about and mulling over pulling those troops out of Germany. Doing this would make a lot of sense given what the whole big picture looks like.
