Bay of Pigs was planned by Eisenhower admin; it went forward after Kennedy was inaugurated but he I don’t think had detailed knowledge of it. The result was that Kennedy would not trust the Joint Chiefs after that, instead brought in his own military advisor Maxwell Taylor.
As far as VN, Kennedy seemed OK with getting rid of Diem and the administration didn’t seem to have a plan for post-Diem, rather seemed to be wishful thinking that the rebel generals would somehow do better with whatever assistance Gen Harkins / MACV was providing. Of course his death just after makes impossible to know what he might have done.

My understanding of the Bay of Pigs was that it was a covert CIA operation and Allen Dulles, the director, tried to paint JFK into a corner with regard to supplying air cover. JFK was livid and refused to be manipulated and essentially told Dulles to clean up his own mess.
Later Dulles was fired but the bad blood lingered until JFK’s assassination in 1963. For this reason many believe that Dulles either gave the kill order or was a major player in the conspiracy. The fact that he then got himself a seat on the Warren Commission was never a good optic.

Kennedy maintained the advisors but was reluctant to have an overt US influence in Southeast Asia. The famous Pentagon Papers chronicles this early US involvement in the region.
