I have long said the only thing President Trump needs to do is to tell Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy he needs to hold an election to showcase his public support for his position. After that, Trump can do nothing except wait for the result and the winner of the election to come to him. Then, engage with Putin on a resolution to the conflict.
Would Zelenskyy win the election? I don’t think so, but who knows. Today a video surfaces where Zelenskyy was directly asked why he has cancelled all Ukraine elections, and would he restart them now. Zelenskyy said no, he would not hold elections because holding an election would mean a pause in the warfighting and that would be a win for Russia.

Well, Z’s right. If the war goes on for some more months, because there’s an election, Russia will reach it’s goals, and the war can end.
Russia is not in for a quick deal. They want to finish their operation: Denazification and demilitarization. The people of the eastern oblasts have voted to become Russian. Russia can’t just leave them hanging. There needs to be a long time solution for peace and security for all in Europe, which is not possible, if NATO stands in Ukraine.
I would like President Trump to act with a little bit of patience if possible. If Russia reaches it’s objectives, the war is over, and the young men can go home. If Trump rushes in now, and starts to throw his weight around, misreading Putin, the situation can easily come out of hand.
Did we all forget that this man sat down to a peace agreement early on in the war, and that he was evidently given a list of red lines not to cross, right after his election?

Well, technically the united States’ held elections during there raid on the Confederacy, but Lincoln deported and/or jailed anyone who so much as coughed the “wrong” opinion. So yeah, “elections” were held.
