“For four years, rank and file of the Federal Bureau of Investigation played the role of courageous heroes fighting the “domestic terror” threat posed by Americans who protested at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Invasive investigations typically involved FBI agents interrogating the family members, co-workers, and even childhood friends of their J6 targets. FBI investigators scoured bank records, Amazon accounts, credit card statements, travel receipts, social media posts including direct messages and other private records in an attempt to build “terrorism” cases.

Agents representing the “FBI Joint Counterterrorism Task Force” proudly signed more than 1,500 criminal complaints between January 2021 and January 2025—keeping up a steady pace of arrests right until Inauguration Day.
They testified—publicly—as government witnesses during more than 150 jury trials, helping the Department of Justice win a perfect conviction rate before D.C. juries.
The largest criminal investigation in the DOJ history gave FBI agents and employees lots of swagger. After all, former FBI director Christopher Wray often bragged how each of the FBI’s 56 field offices was involved in the so-called “Capitol Siege” probe. Those same field offices posted a nonstop stream of press releases boasting about their latest J6 capture and patting themselves on the back for rounding up fellow Americans who supported President Trump.

But the swagger suddenly is gone. Trump’s election not only ended the J6 prosecution but turned the tables in a way the FBI never saw coming. What is even sadder about those Astronauts abandoned on the ISS. Our government does not even have a working space vehicle that can rescue them. We depend on either Musk or the Russians to get to space.

These “judges” do NOT have jurisdiction into the inner workings of government agencies that are part of the executive branch – only maybe to the extent that laws regarding terminations, etc…. are followed. They have no right whatsoever to limit access to agency information by anyone whom the head of the executive branch (Trump) designates. It’s called separation of powers.
These “rulings” should simply be ignored. The presidents plenary powers in the executive were already confirmed by SCOTUS last year.

I wonder if the DOJ will start offering plea bargain deals to the vast majority to help convict the most egregious of their leaders. Fines, asset seizures, loss of pensions, public service but, of course, with an admission of guilt. No admission of guilt puts your head back on the chopping block. However, many people will/should do serious jail time.
I said before that American citizens can not be incarcerated at Gitmo and a Treeper asked for a link to prove what I said. I couldn’t find one but in the course of looking I became acutely aware that ONLY non citizens were ever locked up at Gitmo. I went through the entire roster of everyone incarcerated at Gitmo since 9-11 and didn’t see a single American. Maybe there were prisoners that lost their non native citizenship due to terrorist actions?
I distinctly remember reading a legal opinion that stated American citizens could not be incarcerated at Gitmo but if I can’t prove it with a link than it will be my official guess.
A good reason to have made American prisoners part of the deal with Bukele in El Salvador as announced – it’s a win-win-win.

“Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 143,000 in January, and the unemployment rate edged down to 4.0 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in health care, retail trade, and social assistance. Employment declined in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industry.”
Remember, this was before Trump’s inauguration, so any impact from there forward is not in these numbers. But also, as a serious confounder, is the “rebase” that occurs on the non-institutional working population every January. And boy was that a whopper this time around, alleging more than three million not-counted people over the last 12 months were in fact present.
This has several impacts in the figures — for one, it directly reduces the employment-population ratio, which means the previous ratios were wrong — and looked better than they really were. This is extremely important because of all the data in the labor report that is the single figure that tells you more about how sustainable the government’s taxing and revenue structure is than anything else. It was not just wrong, it was wildly inaccurate.
It also moves the unadjusted unemployment rate massively as well — six full ticks from 3.8% to 4.4%.
But more to the point in addition to all that hours worked went down a tick and that directly resulted in negative changes in weekly check sizes across most of the subgroups in the report.
I won’t bother ascribing motive; that’s speculation and not the remit of this particular monthly column. But this is a weak report both on its face and internally and in addition the UM consumer sentiment report was released which showed a full percentage point jump in inflation expectations in one month. Unless my data set is wrong somewhere that has only happened once before — simply put, people are expecting serious inflationary pressures in the economy — and it is precisely that event that The Fed fears when attempting to provide “monetary stimulus” — a disorderly change in perception of inflation over time.
Well, there it is, and this complicates the picture mightily on a forward basis.
PS: Don’t expect more rate cuts…. not with this sort of set of reports.

San Jose officials rally to fund immigrant protection groups
FTA – Bibiana del Pilar Cruz, community navigator for the Rapid Response Network, said now is the best time for city officials to start giving funding to the coalition. Money from the city means the network can hire more lawyers to fight deportations and administrative staff to run the help hotline, along with providing the community with legal services.
“We can’t expand the network without more sources of funding,” she told San José Spotlight in Spanish. “In addition to legal assistance from activists organizations and social justice groups, we work to accompany people so that they have access to adequate defense and the resources that they need.”
The Rapid Response Network was founded during the first Trump administration in 2016 to double down on San Jose’s commitment as a sanctuary city. Organizations within the network remained active during President Joe Biden’s administration, helping with immigrant rights and rental assistance among other community support efforts.
