One frequent topic of discussion on Shawn Ryan’s podcast is the situation of US-aligned Afghans who had been told they and their families could be resettled in the United States. Some are American citizens with American passports. Others already had visas in hand. After the suicide bombing at Abbey Gate, they could not get onto the airport grounds.
They fought against the Taliban.
Their biometric data was left behind at the embassy. The computers were not destroyed. Now the Taliban has the database and the software. They are scanning faces. Because of that, many of these people cannot safely venture outside their homes because of the near certainty of being killed.
The Biden administration recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan and air delivered up to $80 million per week in cash to the Taliban.
After almost four years of betrayal, the United States may not be the best place for these people who were left behind to fend for themselves. No matter what, we need to try to keep them on our side.
Apparently, Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza was not killed in 2019. He is said to be very much alive and now a warlord who may seek to avenge his father’s assassination.

I want President Trump to turn on his charm and recruit North Carolina’s new governor Josh Stein to join MAGA.
Governor Stein’s inaugural address sounded like what we would expect to hear from somebody on our side of the aisle.
Stein was inaugurated on January 1st. On January 2nd, he issued five executive orders to help relieve the terrible and neglected situation in western NC. The orders are linked at the bottom of the page. They are good and show that a great deal of thought and awareness went into each of them.
For instance, EO-1 grants the NC Department of Public Safety authority to purchase 1,000 temporary manufactured housing units by February 28th. State and local permitting requirements are waived. Formal bidding is suspended. Although there is a TicTok video of a young woman saying that Trump has promised furnished apartments, there is no stock of furnished apartments available in the area. People are sleeping in tents because the lodging FEMA offered would displace them as much as 100 miles away from their jobs, livestock, farms, and schools. The housing needs to come to the people, not the other way around.
EO-2 provides for repair of private roads and bridges. Property owners will be able to present receipts for major repairs that have already taken place. Formal bidding is suspended and inspections are expedited.

I’m Catholic. I do not donate to Catholic Charities. I also like Juanita. However, like it or not, illegals do have certain rights by law in the U.S. This video wasn’t instructing them on how to avoid ICE. It was instructing them what they can and cannot do when confronted by ICE. She told them not to run and not to show false documents. They do have the right to not answer questions and they do have a right to a lawyer who can represent them in front of an immigration judge. These rights do not apply to illegals who have been charged or convicted of crimes.
I was watching an interview with an ICE officer the other day who was working in the recent arrests of illegal criminals. She was asked if illegals who were caught are deported right away. Her answer was that it depends. If they are charged or convicted of crimes, then they will be deported right away if their country will take them back. Some countries will have delays due to not allowing them in. Illegals who have not committed crimes (other than being here illegally), can ask for a lawyer and have a hearing before an immigration judge. Most of them get deported anyway but they do have a right to a hearing.
Expedited Removal is law and may be used when appropriate. No hearing required. Many on the target list have existing removal orders. Many have been previously ordered removed in absentia because they failed to appear for their hearing. Many have been previously deported subsequent to criminal convictions, returned illegally and are prosecutable as felons.
The devil is in the details.
As I understand it, expedited removal affects those who have been here at least 14 days but for less than two years. The ones who are being removed right now can be removed without a hearing unless they state they have a fear of returning to their country. If they make that claim, they will have a Reasonable Fear Interview with an Asylum Officer. If they pass the interview they can have a hearing before a judge to seek asylum.
However, there are other illegals who have not been charged with or convicted of crimes, don’t have existing removal orders etc who can ask for an attorney and have a right to a hearing before an immigration judge. They too can make an asylum claim and be put through that process.
As much as we want ANY ONE who is here illegally to be immediately removed, the law isn’t set up that way and there are different processes for different situations.
I believe they must wait for the hearing on the other side of the border, “wait in Mexico”. So technically if they enter illegally they are turned around and sent back. They may have papers with a court hearing date or have a lawyer but they won’t be here. The problem is people that enable illegal entry which Catholic Charities does and a lot of Catholics are silent about. I am a Catholic. I also realize that the church has loyalties that are not national.
Remain in Mexico means asylum seekers have to apply and wait in Mexico for their hearing. Others who have crossed the border and are detained there can be turned back to wait in Mexico until their hearing. I’m not sure what they are going to do with those who are already all over the interior of the country that Biden let in and who are waiting for hearings. If they had a hearing they didn’t show up for, they can probably be sent home right away.
The reason I don’t support Catholic Charities is because I suspect, but don’t know for sure, that they are using funds to encourage and assist in illegal entry. If they are doing as they claim, which is helping those who have crossed the border who actually NEED and QUALIFY for an asylum hearing to understand and comply with immigration rules, then I have no problem with it. It’s a needed service. However, I’m very suspicious that there is more than that going on.

A Trump deportation flight carrying illegal immigrants made an emergency landing in Brazil allegedly due to unrest onboard. Dozens of handcuffed Brazilian passengers arrived on a GlobalX jet at the Eduardo Gomes International Airport in Manaus City, Amazonas state, on January 25 evening. Video shows ground crew deploying an emergency slide after the Airbus A320 reportedly experienced technical difficulties mid-flight. The Brazilian government said in a statement there were 88 Brazilian passengers, 16 U.S. security officers, and eight plane crew onboard the flight originally bound for Minas Gerais state.
