About that Margaret Brennan interview with VP Vance article yesterday, I know I’m not alone in thinking that we should just quit giving these people the time of day.
Their are lots of reporters in this country, quit favoring the corporate monopoly ones.
There was something else bothering me about it, Brennan was offensive to me as a woman, that I could not quite put my finger on.
We have plenty of awful male “journalists”. It was something uniquely feminine about what she was doing, but it wasn’t something that all female reporters do.
It came to me this morning, that the word I was looking for is “goad”.
I think Margaret was trying to goad the vice president into getting angry, losing his temper.
If a man loses his temper at a male reporter, it’s not viewed the same as it would be if a big guy like Vance went all Andrew Tate on a woman, especially since that would have been all we would see.

The same tactic was used by the female Senate members against Pete Hegseth (and many others) –they goad them with insults to try and get an angry response. The smugness of Brennan is really detestable.
So happy not to have any in person contact with her, she is insufferable and toxic enough from the t.v.

I have a friend with TDS and only listens to these shows. At the same time, she says that the border needs to be closed for at least 10 years and if she wants to own a gun then she should be able to own a gun. She only hears the lies about PDJT and remains in her bubble. If she heard him or his team speak then she might start to see the light.

Exactly this – you nailed it. My elderly mother-in-law is stuck in the propaganda media silo and has no other news sources. There are many like her. This type of person will only be exposed to the actual-vs.-distorted MAGA positions if Vance et.al., engage and go into the proverbial “belly of the beast”. Politeness is key when dealing with a woman especially, as noted above – however strong firmness and solid delivery of facts on these shows as Vance demonstrates is important to get these people off the democrat plantation.

Many low-income people (lots of retirees, many widows) rely on television for their news. Not able to afford cable tv and having no interest or understanding of how to search the internet, downloading,etc., they rely on an old-timey antenna on the roof that picks up local, “mainstream” media. That’s all they see and hear for news.
This demographic includes people other than white female liberals. They are sensible people living a frugal life. I know some of them and they’re sick of what they’ve been told by tv “news.” One lady tries to find the truth on the radio.
Hard to believe, I know, but they’re out there. These are the people who need to hear J.D. Vance and others dealing with the likes of Brennan.
I can’t believe that rabbit ear antennas still work! The last time I used them was when we watched the Olympics with the flying tomato at a remote cabin. After they changed over to fiber optic cable that was the end of it.

I would disagree on not doing interviews with the Drive Byes. We don’t have to give them any special preferences, for example moving them back from the front row in the Press Room, but there are still way too many people who haven’t woken up yet and use the Drive Byes as their only source of news. Even they will have to admit that interviews like this are spectacular in favor of the White Hats with a whiney bitch doing her best to, as you say, goad our sitting Vice President into saying something or behaving in ways that he shouldn’t.
By doing the interviews with the opposing camp talking heads it does a couple things…
It shines light on how shallow and really unprepared they really are by just spewing same talking point repeatedly.
It takes away the “He got only softball” questions.
But I would add that it keeps the argument in a hostile place. We fight on the field of the enemy’s choosing.

2024 was the year in which MAGA learned to take the message in long form to the podcasts. The relationship has been synergistic.
Shawn Ryan, for one, was able to interview Donald Trump, JD Vance, Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, and Kash Patel in long form.
The long form interview with subsequent clips is a much more relatable communication vehicle than shows with talking heads trying to score points between commercials.
We fight on all fields. Finally.
Contrast that with Brennan’s series of unrelated pieces of gotcha bait.
The only common context was the intent to embarrass Vance.
And his reasonable responses made her look like a moron.

There is a part of me that thinks it is a good idea for Conservative politicians to go on these rabid leftists shows. If it helps wake up and red pill just one Democrat, then it is worth it. Waking up thousands is the ultimate goal.

It’s not that liberal men don’t annoy me (they do), it’s that the liberal women are far more likely to show the facial expressions (it’s always the eyes!), make the snide remarks, and (as you say) do the whole “goad” thing.

I have a question for anyone who would like to answer.
Your picture is on your driver license and passport, already tied to all kinds of other identifying information about you, date of birth, address, etc. which in turn already is tied to all kinds of yet more information about you that the government has. And the fact that you’re on a plane flight isn’t a secret. Not to mention that there are cameras all over the airport and the TSA xray.
What are the additional privacy issues and risks are raised by the facial recognition technology?
I don’t like having my picture taken under these circumstances, feels creepy. But laying that aside, I’m looking for answers that would serve as a rational for a proposed law against this.

A surveillance state, of which facial recognition technology is a part, is anathema to Americans who have a Constitutional guarantee to a Republican form of government. It is also a violation of the 4th amendment to the Constitution. It is also at odds with one of the two reasons the Constitution was passed in the first place, namely to prevent abuses of power similar to what had been committed by the British monarchy.
Each of these points could easily be expanded, and examples provided, to create an airtight argument against the use of this technology by the government. This is just another example of power never granted to the government and which they have no right to.
You’re walking down the street and decide to shop at a grocery store. After your “face” is read by a scanner in the doorway, you are informed by the store manager that you are not welcome to shop inside until you update your mRNA vaccination.
Or maybe you already bought your quota of meat and you can’t buy any more until next month. This is why a ‘cashless’ society is also a ruse to monitor spending and punish transgressors. But scanning the people themselves bumps it up to another level.

Gas prices and stocks are speculation. Stock prices reflect future earnings, if AI models can run more efficiently and do better then Nvidia won’t need to print GPU’s. They may return to normal production levels and advancement.
A maxed out Apple
M4 chip MacBook Pro can run 7 billion parameter models fairly good.
Nvidia had a stock run because large companies like X were buying billions of dollars of GPU’s. They’ll need to expand/replace in the future but probably not at a scale investors speculated.
Do I see Nvidia going out of business and not innovating, no but their future production may be pulled back based on more efficient application of programs like AI model training.
My understanding thusfar is that China has OpenSource models that operate way more efficiently than the proprietary ones.

I’m not convinced Sam Altman is the bad guy here. He was ousted by Bill Gates influence and took the remaining employees’ protests to bring him back.
Trying to “woke” an AI would always hamper AI’s credibility as it would block logic an reason to the degree that it would never achieve AGI. It would instead be forever confused and effectively retarded.
As for China’s ability to “catch up?” It’s overblown. They are leveraging existing LLMs to “teach/learn” their AI. It is highly dependent on existing (expensive) AI. One only needs to cut that off and that would end that. But I’m not convinced that “second hand AI” could ever be effective as whatever halluciations current LLM AI suffers would be multiplied in whatever second-hand AI would learn. It would be AI with dementia.
It’s the same thing “woke” does to humans.
We’re light years from AGI. The largest data centers on the planet can process about 0.1% of what the typical human brain can and the latest developments in brain research suggest some sort of quantum effect involved in our thought processes (i.e. it’s not even something we have tools to fully measure much less something we could duplicate in an artificial molecular scale system).
AI is just data-sorting software programmed to consider past outcomes in weighing it ‘s sorting outputs. You can attach actions to those outputs, and apply addition al layers of sorting to minimize false positives, but it’s still no more intelligent than the pocket calculators of last century. There is no thought or reason involved, just slavish adherence to the programming it’s been given. It can only do what it’s been programmed to do.
The intelligence is entirely external to the machine. It is no more aware than a gun. If it kills you its not because it decided to do so, but because that is the outcome its programmer placed into the system. Somewhere a real person pulled the trigger.
That is where the pressure must be applied… the authoritarian can always use a different gun. It is the authoritarian who must be defeated.
Today’s disclosure of DeepSeek is this generation’s Sputnik moment when USSR had the first orbiting satellite in the sky. I remember that evening when it hit the news and my parents had us all go outside to see if we could see it crossing the sky, and then saw all the families on our block were also all outside.

In a political debate about J6, I stated my belief that Pelosi had declined Trump’s offer of National Guard troops standing by that day. Having been challenged on that statement, I established to my satisfaction that Trump had pushed for having a National Guard presence there that day, and that Pelosi as Speaker was responsible for security at the Capital that day, but there was no direct connection between a Trump offer and a Pelosi rejection of that offer.

So thinking his may be an interesting viewpoint we may want to consider as we watch the tech bubble continue to burst, even if it is only a momentary happening:

I’ve been looking the tech AI bubble for a while and getting a deja vu on the “dot com” boom-then-bust.
Every algorithm is just waiting for someone to invent and publish a better one.
Fortunately, this one WAS promptly published, with open source code and explanation.
For example, I expect someone to discover a way to cheaply mass-generate “blockchain tokens.” Which will initially wipe out “crypto,” but then revolutionize electronic funds transfer. I think it’s only a matter of time: lots of very clever people out there. And that’s how progress is made – and shared.
I’m not sure I understand a market reaction.
Open source means that whatever advantages are to be found in DeepSeek’s coding will quickly be propagated into other projects. If anything, my takeaway is that progress on AI just accelerated…hard to say by how much. The huge infrastructure projects just become more efficient.

As far as private AI, I certainly hope so, but we’re not anywhere close yet. AI code can’t accomplish much with hardware you or I could buy off the shelf. Being able to run an AI with your own parameters and on your own hardware may eventually end up being the best defense against big, bad corporate and government AI. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
The market move is about the anticipated reduced demand for hardware, which is silly.
My understanding, regarding market reaction is, what was on Friday a monopoly (AI) is now free for the taking by anyone who wants to use it.

Call it a “Live Training Exercise” or even a “Live Exercise” … executing a Stabilization and Support OPERATION to Civil Government … which is a real mission under DoD definitions.
By the way … the same could be done using US Army III Corps (Ft Hood and Ft Bliss) assets on the US Southern Border.

I am not impressed with the Army Corp of Engineers. I witnessed them near where I live. They consisted of an older woman sitting her vehicle with the heat on and a group of private contractors trimming trees on public land. She said no way would they be removing the debris THAT THEY CREATED by trimming trees that did not need to be trimmed. Sure enough, weeks later, the debris is still there so the recreation facility still cannot be used.
As far as the border is concerned: put the screws on Mexico AND Canada. The vast majority of these people flow through these two countries, who have to be fully aware of what’s going on and have the ability to stop it.

But if they are then all the firms that are currently blowing tens of billions on huge data centers, gigawatts of power consumption and employing huge groups of developers are in serious trouble; they have bet on a bankrupt business model and billions worth of hardware in support of it that has a resale and use value under the paradigm DeepSeek has demonstrated of approximately equal to a used beer can because the power and human resource required to run it is a money loser even if you could give away the results.
Time will tell but if you think across the business space where everything that has spoke the two letters “AI” has shot the moon in valuation over the last few years will not see a collapse far worse than 2000 if this proves up you’re certifiable. Even if those firms take the public domain code and run with it, and they will if they become convinced its real, from a standpoint of sunk cost and zero-value expenditures made to date every one of these companies is in serious competitive and quite-possibly financial trouble.
