think this really took off under George W Bush with his Office of Faith Based Community Initiatives executive order. It effectively created a business model for religious organizations to receive a lot of money providing a variety of ‘services’ that, prior to W’s order, would have been done either by government OR private charity (those organizations who receive their funding from private donors). Effectively, George dangled a lot of money for religious organizations to get funding from government grants – basically corporate welfare. This move, as Phyllis Schaffley warned, corrupted the charities with large amounts of money. A socialized-charity scheme.
