Making the announcement Thursday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced Arkansas Republican Representative Rick Crawford would be the new Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).
As chair of HPSCI the position automatically elevates Rick Crawford onto the Gang of Eight, the legislative group that holds information within the legislative branch at the same level of information as the President. Crawford now joins Mike Johnson, Tom Cotton and John Thune as the four republicans on the intelligence Gang of Eight.
Because of both the power and sensitivity of the HPSCI Chair position, the appointment comes directly from the Speaker of the House with no other member input. Crawford is Johnson’s personal selection.
Additionally, Johnson announced the following members are added to the House intel committee: Ben Cline (Va.), Pat Fallon (Texas), Greg Steube (Fla.), Claudia Tenney (N.Y.) and Ann Wagner (Mo.). Overall, a larger MAGA alignment on this very key intelligence committee.
WASHINGTON DC – […] The sea change on the panel is already triggering intense backlash from some Republicans on the committee and across the conference, who worry it’s a warning sign about the House’s willingness to stay independent of Trump. Unlike Turner, who has been an outspoken advocate for Ukraine funding and other muscular national security stances, Crawford is much more America First in his outlook. He opposed aid to Ukraine last year and was the only member of the Arkansas congressional delegation to oppose the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral win in 2021.
Crawford is also seen as a team player for the Trump cause. He gave up his Intelligence seat for a time to Rep. Jim Jordan (Ohio), a veteran partisan brawler, in the runup to Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 so Republicans would have more firepower during televised hearings. He said at the time he wanted to “ensure the American people hear the full truth” amid allegations that Trump threatened to hold up military aid to Ukraine in exchange for political dirt on his political opponents. We are all going to need to watch closely how the 2025 legislative membership position themselves against the backdrop of the larger Intelligence Community. Crawford is a positive step; however, Crawford necessarily (to survive in the machine) has expressed his belief in the value of the FISA-702 authorities, so stay diligent.
Remember the example just yesterday with Mary McCord appearing before the Senate to undermine Pam Bondi. Not a single Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee called out McCord; not one. Arkansas, once solidly a southern Dem state, has trended aggressively conservative beginning with Mike Huckabee switching parties.
Crawford, a former US Army bomb tech, has a solid MAGA record including voting against the Green New Deal, supporting the death penalty, and a balanced budget. Hell, he came to Congress as part of the Tea Party and he also gave up his seat on the intel committee to advance a defense against Trump impeachment.
Mike Johnson delivered and should be commended. For those with doubts, this is a huge step in the right direction (pun intended) and one that warrants further trust.

There has never been effective oversight of the NSA’s bulk collections programs, or indeed, intelligence agencies in general. There’s been a lot of noise made about this vaunted oversight in defense of programs revealed by leaked documents, but this is nothing more than a talking point.
At The Big Picture, a clip of Sen. John D. Rockefeller (then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) discussing how oversight actually works has been posted. It’s from an interview given in 2007, about the time the FISA Amendments Act was being put together to replace the expiring Protect America Act. The amendments act, among other things, extended the length of warrantless surveillance and gave telecoms retroactive immunity for their participation in the NSA’s bulk collections.
Here’s Sen. John D. Rockefeller explaining why, even back in 2007, intelligence agency oversight was a joke.

Johnson’s elevation to Speaker was a parliamentary accident. It was completely unanticipated that Johnson would be the outcome of Gaetz ousting Nancy’s boy. Naturally the cabal wants to flip him, and if he resists and remains loyal to the President, then to destroy him.
So, taking care for the Speaker’s personal security is necessary. He should never be alone, but accompanied at all times by colleagues. If the Republicans question his motives now, it will be as nothing, compared to when the Democrats start going after him. I suspect Johnson will have need his faith in coming months.
If you ever want to see Mary McCord melt, just subject her to 10 minutes of questions that ask only, “What were the last four major positions you’ve held in government?” followed by “What major political prosecutions against PDJT took place while you were there?”

Mary McCord, in her transcribed interview for HPSCI in the Russia investigation, was a bit over the top in her praise of Sally Yates, her supervisor at DOJ. Sally Yates lives in the Atlanta area. Did Sally Yates recommend Fani for the job of attacking Trump using the state’s judicial system where he or another Republican president could not pardon him?
According to Judge Joe Brown, who used to run in the same circles as Fani’s father, Fani’s ambition is to become a judge. We know from Fani’s testimony and her father’s that she grew up in the metro Washington DC area and attended college there.
Let’s speculate for a bit.
Federal judicial appointments are for life. DC is the apex of the federal judicial system. DC is home.
If Fani had played her cards right and the Democrats had won this election, Fani would have been a lay up for US Attorney, an appointed position. Four years in that position along with sponsorship from Mary McCord’s lawfare swamp could get Fani a seat as a federal district judge. Eventually, she could get to a DC court.
Fani absolutely glows with ambition. It would not be hard to recognize her as a useful tool who could be welcomed to the club.

I see Ann Wagner has now joined the committee. She’s my Rep (MO-2) only because of redistricting a few years ago. I was in Luetkemeyer’s district (MO-3) which was won last November by Dr. Bob Onder (solid MAGA). Be wary of Wagner. She’s not MAGA. There were rumors that she disparaged MAGA voters in her redrawn district as crazy. I will always vote against her in a primary if a solid opponent is offered. Not likely since MO GOP is controlled by RINOs. Her support of PDJT in the past has been lukewarm at best. Oh but now she’s singing his praises after the November election. I’ll bet she has a Ring camera pointed directly at a political windsock.
Her congressional voting record isn’t horrible, but she continues to vote in favor of these bloated CRs and Omnibus bills. Also, she’s all in on sending billions to Ukraine.

So exactly what was the reasoning that pencil neck schifty gave for Bondi to recuse? And exactly why did pencil neck schifty bring up an investigation of himself if he hasn’t done anything wrong?
Schiff and McCord should have both been reminded that they themselves have an inherent conflict of interest in the same matters in which they suggest Bondi should now recuse herself from investigating.
After a little further review, Crawford is rino of better standing than Womack, French (awful). So, eh…he will be better than Turner.
