Vance then moves to discussing the economic agenda and onto the objectives of the Trump administration to pardon January 6th detainees. For those J6 protestors who committed “acts of violence,” there will be no sympathy. I was just going to post the same thing. It is a miscarriage of justice if all J6ers are not pardoned on day 1 of President Trump’s second term.
If you don’t use the law and do it right, you’re no better than corrupt democrats who put J6ers in jail regardless of what they did. The democrats said it would be a miscarriage of justice to NOT throw them all in jail. Many of the commenters here are against all Joe’s pardons and shouldn’t sink to that same level with blanket pardons of anybody.
And no it will not take long. Team Trump has stated that anyone that just entered the capitol or trespassed and did nothing else(misdemeanors) will be pardoned immediately. The arrests and trials will be stopped or put on hold, and outside of DC judges will be assigned to quickly review the small remainder.
That is not enough. Even some people who fought with police were agitated into the confrontation. At this point they have been imprisoned in unlawful conditions and labelled terrorists. They were denied adequate and robust defenses and evidence was withheld from them. They were NOT convicted by a jury of their “peers.” Judges skewed the trials in favor of the prosecution. DC jurors are peers only to the dems and their sychophants.
Enough is enough. Set them free.

Difference is that BLM protestors were warned and no one opened the doors to let them have access. Rubber bullets in the face (happened on J6) is a huge difference to some flash bangs, pepper gas and being set up to get “pushy” with the cops. BLM got pushy and violent without being agitated. And Antifa and others DID have weapons (bricks, lasers, etc).

Their sentences were commuted to life without parole. They were not pardoned, just had the severity of the sentences reduced.

The ones who refused the commutations are fighting their convictions, and they think if they accepted the commutations, it would be an admission of guilt. So they’re willing to stay on death row while their appeals are heard.

Wethal is correct. I researched it because initially, I thought they were pardoned and free. Their death sentences were changed to life in prison without parole, so they are still locked up for life. And the two death row guys who refused the deals did so, IIRC, because they were still in the appeals process, and they didn’t want to be locked in to something that they couldn’t appeal.

Vance didn’t say anything like “there will be no sympathy” for those that committed violent acts. Those handful of convictions will likely need review before any pardons can be issued. Ultimately they will likely conclude that even those convicted of violent crimes did not receive a fair trial in DC. Considering his own recent lawfare experiences, I imagine that President Trump will have a great deal of sympathy for them.

I remember watching President Trump on television giving an outdoor presentation during that January 6. As he was talking, the percussions of the flash-bang grenades going off at the Capital started, and were heard by the crowd at the White House, by the President, and by the television audience. That fact disproved much of the Democrats’ narrative.
The J6 detainees have had their civil rights, under the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments completely trashed. Not only should they be pardoned in whole, but the D.C. jail should be demolished, Home Rule for D.C. should be revoked, the D.C. courts should be abolished and the Judges fired, and the D.C. Mayor should be fired. And that is just a start to cleaning up the swamp.
The Washington DC District Court must be abolished!
Cases in DC should be heard in Maryland and Virginia on a random rotation!
Let’s go a step further…. To highlight the judicial bias dependent on geography and/or no-voter-ID-required states, use all 50 states on a rotating basis to replace the biased DC courts.
If this administration fails to deliver blanket pardons for those who answered the call to show their support, even if they were coerced into what could be twisted into violent acts, then votes were wasted in November. You either stand for those who were trying to do right or you bend to the will of those you know did wrong.

I don’t think the undercover Feds were ever charged. A “blanket” pardon may let them off the hook for their actions. The pipe bomber, scaffold commander, etc. How about police that broke laws, lied to Congress, etc. Would a pardon keep them from being held accountable?
Even violent offenders may have mitigating circumstances that were not considered by the corrupt DC system. Entrapped by Feds, attacked by police, caught in the crowd. They were probably all overcharged and over sentenced as well.
Most importantly, a pardon does not exonerate the crime. They will all still be convicted felons and future opportunities will be limited for them due to that label. A pardon may be good for some but for most, they need more. They need to clear their name and get restitution for their lives that were destroyed.
I would think these people like Vance would have this figured out by now but they seem clueless to the real solutions here. They should already have a database of all those charged in connection with J6. They should already have triaged those to separate categories of those who walked around the capitol, those that instigated, broke windows, etc and those that may have assaulted police without being provoked into it. That review should already be done. There are people and groups that have tracked this and have the answers already.
You also have to worry about those still being charged or on trial now. A pardon does not stop that.
There must be some kind of Executive order that can release ALL prisoners now, end all court proceedings etc, and then we can quickly go through them one by one to determine individual solutions. That includes their input as to the best way forward for them. I don’t think there is enough strategic overall thinking going on here. Just pardons seem very shortsighted.

Full pardon for anyone “convicted” for trespassing, or parading, or “disrupting an official proceeding”. Everyone else gets commutation of sentence. All of them should be given the option to appeal to a district outside of DC. That is the only way that they might get a fair hearing.

I hope they have already done the groundwork to sign pardons for the people they plan to pardon. Also, I understand taking the position that “people who committed violence will get no sympathy. It’s hard to gain credibility as an admin who is making our country safer by pardoning people who committed violence. It would set Trump up as no better than Biden pardoning death row inmates. HOWEVER, I’m guessing a large category of J6 defendants fall between gawkers and violent actors. What about the people ho promoted the events and stand convicted of “masterminding the conspiracy” or the people who didn’t break windows but climbed through them? Or people who took “souvenirs”? What about people who committed vandalism but are serving 4-8 years for it?
