President-elect Donald Trump, along with former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, arrived at Washington National Cathedral ahead of Jimmy Carter’s funeral. President Trump and President Obama sat next to each other and engaged in extended conversation.
It is interesting to watch the body language and interpersonal dynamics in this video. President Trump shakes hands with Mike Pence. President Obama does not shake Trump or Melania’s hand – but shakes everyone else’s hands. George W Bush walks right past the Trump’s, then slaps Obama in the stomach and shakes hands with everyone else. President Obama and President Trump having lots of laughs. Trump, watching the entire maneuver diverts his eyes & leans into Obama. Kamala quickly turns around like she’s been caught and Doug’s you-know appears to pucker.

After the Bushes are seated, Laura occupying the seat of absent Michelle, raises her smartwatch into the frame as she adjusts her earpiece, I mean, earring.
Melania doesn’t have much of a poker face unlike all of the other absolute professionals. She’s listening to every thing said. She may be wearing an earpiece too.
All of the other women are straining to listen to the conversation while pretending to not notice as they nervously flip thru their programs.

It was Merriwether Lewis who gave Jefferson’s 1st State of the Union speech. Jefferson didn’t even attend. Perhaps Jefferson’s most endearing quality is that he had a pet Mocking Bird. I’m only half joking. They are wonderful to watch. It was probably more intelligent than a good number of his guests.
Mencken’s quote, though pithy like most of his comments, ignores those who do honorable service to their country. Based on his biography, certainly Jefferson was a professional politician. At times he had to compromise, but never to the extent of abandoning his principles.
