The New York Court of Appeals has declined to review Trump’s petition to stay sentencing. This is the highest appellate court in NY. (Supreme Court-Appellate Division is actually an intermediate appellate court).
Trump still has a petition pending before SCOTUS. Bragg is supposed to file a response by today.
An appeal to the SCOTUS is also pending.
New York is already a lost cause. They simply want to “throw Trump in jail” or as close as they can get to it. “TDS” is apparently not a crime, but it should be.

Water is one of the most fundamental departments in urban areas, it should never go to a political hack or especially not a DEI political hack.

What no water tanks on the highest locations for maximum water pressure? I’m no engineer but common sense would place them up as high as possible for good water pressure not only for households but for fire hydrants as well. Pumping well water up to the free standing water tanks has to be a better alternative than trying to pump water up to fire hydrants? Just my guess? I’m just an old man what do I know? Nevertheless, I think this passage indicates a fundamental misunderstanding or mis-verbalization of how the water system works.

Bubby, like you, I think that the storage tanks (three 1-million-gallon tanks, reportedly) are fundamental to operation of the system
I’d presume that electric pumps in the “trunk lines” pump water uphill to tanks at high ground, which then feed the residential water-distribution piping network by gravity flow from the tanks, with the hydrants being part of that distribution network.
Her comment “so much water was being used before it could get to the tanks” seems to imply that the hydrants were fed by trunk lines by water on its way to the tanks. I don’t think that’s plausible, unless experts tell me it’s so.
More likely, I think water is solely pumped to the tanks, gravity-fed into the distribution piping network, AND THEN consumed at a rate exceeding the trunk-line capacity to the storage tanks.
That is – the water’s consumed after being fed FROM the tanks, not “before it could get to the tanks”, as she said
But it’s a matter of rates — if the consumption rate exceeds the supply rate, then the tanks will draw down and no longer be able to keep the distribution system pressurized. Hydrants highest on the hill will reduce to a trickle or zero, then hydrants farther down successively.
Water’s still being pumped uphill into the tanks but the consumption rate from hydrants farther down the hill is greater, so the entire piping network is slowly emptying. The trunk supply rate can’t keep up.
All this presumes my assumption that the water-distribution network is fed solely by gravity feed from the tanks. I’d be surprised if the distribution network is connected to and fed directly from the trunk lines.
But I’m happy to be told I’m wrong if there are any water-system experts here who can correct me.
Until then, I’d contend that she’s misspoken on the fundamentals of the system, but for a higher-level manager / pencil pusher, I’m not gonna call that a mortal sin.

yeah, there was probaby a couple feet of water at the bottom of the tanks the entire time
longs story – the tanks will have float-actuators in them, like the tank on back of your home toilet
water is pumped uphill to the tanks in trunk lines. when the tank is filled, the float actuates a relay that signals a “tank full, pump-off” condition
when water in the tank is drawn down, at a certain level the float actuates another relay that signals “level is low, pump on to refill the tank”
so there was probably a couple feet of water in the tanks the entire time and the pumps were probably pumping water uphill to the tanks the entire time
the problem was, water demand from the fire trucks hooked up to the hydrants was greater that the engineered design rate of the pumps
tank refilling couldn’t keep up with the demand and couldn’t keep the water-distribution piping network “topped off”
the entire distribution network was draining out, with hydrants at higher elevation going dry or insufficient flow first, then lower-elevation hydrants in succession
there were reports that power agencies cut off electrical power, fearing electric lines would fall and start more fires, also cutting off electric to the pumps

that could all be part of the engineering guidelines, and I expect they’ll be updated with these recent events in mind
one approach might be additional or supplemental pumps at pumping stations
primary pump and standby/supplemental pump means you’re paying 2x the cost of a pump, but you can justify the expense by the benefit to the commonwealth in preventing the kind of tragedy we just saw
some pumping stations have backup generators with onsite diesel fuel tanks in case city electricity goes down or lines are cut
there are various ways to make water supplies more resilient and hardened against failure, they just cost money and a little imagination

Not sure what map changes you are referring to. Pure speculation on my part, If Cali split it would bring the electoral college more to balance. CA is not as far left as some are led to believe. If CA was split the collage would nearly split, probably 60/40.
Going further CA is fat by about 6 to 8 congressional seats (a conservative estimate), based on Illegal alien residents. The coastal power centers currently have an outsized role in determining congressional districting. A state split upsets the balance of power and seats.
You may be able to make the same case with Oregon and Washinton. The East coast is a little harder to nail down, but I have always wondered about the New England states deserving two senators. For example, Connecticut has a population about the size of San Diego County. Population density has shifted considerably over the last 50 years. I don’t think the current electoral map is a true representation of the nation. Power and money accumulate to the detriment of representation.

We’re not that much in the national news, but Richmond, VA, and environs, are having to boil water to drink. (Ah, the good times I had living in Latin America are here now for my enjoyment!) For some reason (cold weather) the Richmond water pumping plant went off line, flooded, went to battery back-up (which failed), while back-up generators (diesel) weren’t used (until much later I am supposing). News now that problems with the infrastructure of the station were know but ignored. Surrounding counties were slow to switch out supply so they were caught up in water mixed with let’s say non-drinking water. I’m sure some of my details are wrong but that’s gist of it. Did I mention that Richmond is totally run by democrats? DEI meets New Green Deal (and likely oversized salaries) = No drinking water. But damn, the employee benefits are good!
While reading your comment … I had the same fond memories of an interesting water system and building central heat generation by high sulfur coal, from living as an ex-pat in Turkey.
I now consider that ex-pat experience as learning survival skills.

Last week, I disclosed that a pre-school aged child had died of “cardio-respiratory arrest” in Moderna’s pivotal KidCOVE clinical trial for its mRNA Covid vaccine.
Given the controversy over mRNA jabs for children, the death would likely have been big news – if Moderna and the supposedly independent physicians involved with the trial had reported it.
But a review of Moderna’s articles around KidCOVE shows the company hid reporting the death while pretending to be transparent. In 2024, it published results from KidCOVE that excluded the part of the trial where the death occurred. Had European regulators not made Moderna report and publish the full results in September, albeit on an obscure Website, the death would still be a secret.

LAFD recently created its 1st DEI Bureau. Assistant Chief Kristine Larson rakes in $399,000+ by leading this bureau.

Actually, LA city had a requirement you live in the city during probation at least. A lot live in OC, Corona, Temecula.
Almost every firefighter works a ton of overtime unless their place makes a lot too. The link I posted below shows a lot of Fire Captains making 500k+
A lot of firefighter are paramedics which comes with an incentive not reflected in the base.
I worked at the WalMart of CA Dept’s and if I hadn’t got hurt and medically retired I’d have a ~$136k base probably doing close to 180 with a little overtime due to my travel needs. I moved out of state.
I just looked and a friend who’s the same rank made 243k in 2023 with the same base. He works almost everyday, prob 20 or 22 in our 28 day work period – every month.
Go look at the LA city salary reports, a lot of FF’s, FAE’s, FC’s and BC’s making over $250/300k
