It happened around 3:15 a.m. at the corner of Bourbon and Iberville streets.

EMS is currently on the scene. Additionally, Bourbon Street has been shut down at this time, according to the NOPD.

Not that we’ll ever know the answer, but I’d like to know EXACTLY the circumstance/discussion etc that led to some LEO actually going to that isis flag on the pole on back of the truck, and binding it up so that we couldn’t see it more clearly. Because it is.
If you watch the latest video of the truck using the sidewalk the flag is not unfurled. My hypothesis is that he didn’t want to attract attention before he executed his plan. Could be wrong though

There’s a bit of a Catch-22 here.
Covering the flag helps cover up the terrorism motive, which is something the FBI and other institutional stakeholders want.
On the other hand, allowing the flag to be visible makes it possible for others to use the video and pictures in future training and propaganda material. Somewhere I am guessing there is a SOP which instructs first responders to remove or cover such items for this specific reason.
I am probably raising a moot point, since the attack will be used in propaganda regardless, but the whole issue touches on the well-earned distrust which exists towards law enforcement agencies.

Less than 2 hours post-incident on a live news conference, the FBI New Orleans Assistant Special Agent in Charge makes the statement “This was not a terrorist incident”
Why does the FBI consistently respond like this? They only make fools out of themselves and diminish their credibility even more than the rock-bottom level it is already at.
Someone on this site said immediate denial of the facts and gaslighting seems to be their standard operations procedure, possibly to give them time to get their stories straight. After what? After they’ve secured the crime scene and gotten rid of any evidence that would tell Americans the truth about what happened? So they can cover up their inability yet again to deliver answers? As a first line of defense against people who would immediately rip into them for not doing their actual job to watch terrorists instead of illegally spying on the millions of Americans who follow President Trump on Twitter, for example? In 1990 I had to attend a bank examiner class in New Orleans for two weeks with a few dozen auditors from my agency. We stayed at a downtown hotel about eight blocks from Basin Street. After getting checked in and settled we decided to walk down to Basin Street for lunch and as we walked outside of the hotel the doorman said “Cross the street here and walk down on the other side of the street”. We joked and then asked him why we had walk down on the other side of the street? He said “If you walk down on this side of the street they’ll kill you!”
