If the government “shuts down” but nobody notices, is it really a shutdown?
After a group of 38 republicans aligned with almost all democrats in the house, the effort to raise the debt ceiling and fund government failed.
Unbeknownst to most, the debt ceiling was suspended in Jun of 2023. As a result, Joe Biden and congress could spend on Ukraine without worry about the debt ceiling being a hurdle. The UniParty suspended the debt ceiling with a purpose.
Starting Jan 1st, 2025, the debt ceiling issue is scheduled to return. National debt will be whatever it was when the debt ceiling was suspended plus whatever spending Biden and the UniParty did since June of 2023. A new debt ceiling is estimated to be hit by June of 2025 or earlier.
President Trump told Speaker Mike Johnson -using the CR as a vehicle- to push the restart of the debt ceiling back for 2 years. This would allow for continuance of the tax cuts that President Trump wants to make; plus, economic drivers like no tax on tips, no tax on social security, no tax on overtime, a 15% tax bracket for companies who build, invest and manufacture in the USA. Expanding the economy is the goal.
Our government considers tax cuts as government spending. So, if congress does $4 trillion in tax cuts, the government considers that $4 trillion in additional spending.
The debt ceiling reinitiating next year will make President Trump have to figure out how to pass the tax cuts without going over the debt ceiling and triggering a default.
By not moving the non-existent debt ceiling back two more years, the 38 “true conservatives” stopped the American people from getting more of our money returned via tax cuts and they keep more money in the government.
DOGE was planned to come in under the Trump plan to reduce the size of government at the same time ultimately addressing the issue of the 38 conservatives.
WASHINGTON DC – […] Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) told a gaggle of reporters outside of the speaker’s office that the bill they plan to put forth would likely be similar to the Donald Trump-backed version that failed on the House floor by a wide margin Thursday evening. She said the vote was planned for 10 a.m.
“I think we’re very close to a deal,” she said, adding that it’s “very close to President Trump’s plan yesterday.”
Johnson and House conservatives are huddling in his office Friday morning as a government shutdown deadline looms in less than 24 hours. Separately, House Democrats are scheduled to have a closed-door meeting later in the morning as they wait to see what happens next. (more)
Panic! Government will shut down if Congress doesn’t pass a funding bill!
That’s how most media cover it.
But during previous shut downs, what terrible things happened? None!
Life went on. Government demonstrated how needless most of it is.
I made this video about that: pic.twitter.com/NIPYeO2r6X

WHITE. HOT. ANGER.
“Now, we’re sending $1 Billion to Ecuador to take care of their forests.”
https://x.com/BehizyTweets/status/1870164694016897100
They are doing it to save the climate AND to assist countries who need financial “help” to achieve the lofty goal of saving the climate.
These thieves squander so much of our wealth.
If they are doing it to save the climate, I wonder if they will cut down the forest to put up solar panels and windmills? That’s what they did in Scotland. They cut down 6.5 Million trees for windmills that don’t work and solar panels that break easily.
That made me sick to my stomach what they did to all of those trees in Scotland. Just sickening.
“RENEWABLES” is a scam to rezone land for housing developments and get conmen rich in the mean time. Nothing more.
I wanted to disprove this 6.5 million trees being cut down to install windmills and solar panels.
The Scottish Government says it’s “17,000,000+” since 2000 AD.
https://www.gov.scot/publications/eir-202400407867/
!
Darn I forgot a 1. Sorry, last I heard it was 16.5, so now it’s 17 Million. When will this lunacy stop?
When will it stop? When the left is thrown out on its ear! It may not be easy. It may not be cheap. It may not be pretty. Still, it must be done soon.
They have been doing that in the Amazon forest also.
The politicans who voted for that should be liberated from the branches of the tallest still standing trees. No?
“The Scottish Forest; Where Trees Are Being Cut Down To Save The Planet”
Traveled Scotland in 2019 & 2024. In every tourist/travel doc you’ll see chemtrails. In 2019 there was no homeless in Edinburgh and lots of cool street performers & vendors: musicians, pipers, etc. In 2024 I saw homeless and no street entertainers. I inquired. Street entertainers now need a license and they’re not so easy to get, or afford. A graveyard with a statue of Abe Lincoln was a homeless bog.
Scotland has fallen
Scotland is run by socialists and they fork up everything they touch. Stay home, America has much more beautiful scenery than they do and the people are more hospitable.
Wait….doesn’t congress have to authorize these kinds of expenditures?
Yeah, just like those pathetic and worthless SACKS OF SHIT have authorized FJB’s thieving U.S. Taxpayer money to the tune of $4.3 BILLION DOLLARS to pay-off student loan debt.
It’s BEYOND INFURIATING!!
So there is no one in our global/galactic universe that can, is willing, to stop all this horseshit?..I thought the last thing was …the last straw….now this. I need the name of the person who put this name on this.
Just another obscurity du jour…
Will they take back their illegals?
Unfortunately the mindset or talking point is that 1 billion is not going to move the needle on 36 trillion in debt. So given that argument another couple billion or hundreds of billion is meaningless. So just spend it.
Ecuador surely has some goats.
Nope, its so they continue getting kickbacks on this trade.
“Situated between two of the world’s largest cocaine producing countries, Ecuador is a major transit country for illegal narcotics. Cocaine and heroin from Colombia and Peru are trafficked through porous land borders and via maritime routes for distribution to the United States and Europe.”
Which means the spend jackels in congress can’t see the forest(gump) for the trees.😡🦨
And I am sure Ecuador is rebating at least a third of that to employees of the US Government.
They are not just incompetent – they are insane and evil!
Well, the forests in Ecuador are obviously very important, Rob! You should pay more attention to the forests. LOL
the theatrics are spectacular this year.
They’re real and they’re spectacular 🙂
Classic episode. 😎👍
You got to give her credit … she ad libbed that comment.

Her man hands?
What a crock of shit this whole charade is . I’m so tired of hearing about the farm bill. ” we have to help the poor farmers ” 110 billion in disaster relief ??? People are still trying to re build after the flood and hurricanes . All you hear are horror stories about fema , red cross etc etc. Im so tired of this bullshit .
The farm bill has so much pork in it you could feed all of the people recovering from disasters this year ! Ha!
How much of that 110 billion would actually get there ?
I don’t know about you , but bring it on , shut it down . I want to feel the pain !!! Can it be any worse than what we have right now ? Just tell all the essential government workers to report to thier stations and tell the rest ” look for another job .
Bunch’ a’ pricks.
Everyone should pledge to stay out of the supermarkets in 2025.
Support small local farmers, produce, and butchers. Most people don’t know what real meat tastes like. The stuff in supermarkets is injected with water, sodium, and broth. Its disgusting!
I donated some money to a favorite food pantry charity. I specified the funds must be used to purchase a side of beef. The recipients loved it, as they are used to getting the supermarket scrap you described.
Viva Mexico….healthy foods and caring healthcare!
Gracias Dios
Let em have it, Jeff!
Your choice of words lessens the impact of your comment. And reflects poorly on you.
Stossel pointed out, although granted it was several years ago, that most fruit and vegetable farmers don’t get ag subsidies, and they do fine.
Its all going to grain producers, corn and soybean, which is probably ADM,…
Also Ag dept is in charge of food stamps program.
They are all in n it. The yeah and the nay. Fire the bloody lot of them.
Pretty typical, actually.
Yawn…..
There should be a law that says
1) Every year, the government must pay back at least $1 trillion of the national debt, until the national debt is all paid.
2) After the debt is paid, all budgets must be balanced. No more going in to debt.
Well, DOGE says that we can save at least $2.5 Trillion every year by cutting waste.
That figure does not include the billions of dollars that will return to this nation in shape of corporate taxes. Let’s pretend that it ends up being $500 Billion.
Add the two together and we get $3 Trillion dollars saved every year. That should be put towards the debt and/or some of it spent on fixing our cities, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
But wait, theres more!
China and the EU have been ripping us off for 1/2 Trillion $’s each.
Stop that, thats another Trillion $/ year.
And,..3 little words,…
drill baby drill!
Yes. If these a-holes (sorry, I’m angry) just dug around the couch cushions a little more then they could rustle up a Trillion here and a Trillion there.
Then once Trump leaves office, back come failed DEI programs, sex change surgeries for children, studies on why lesbians are disproportionately fat, etc.
If all they have to do is stand down, shut up, and wait 4 years until PDJT leaves office then WHY DON’T THEY JUST DO THAT like they did during his first stint as president?? They already survived 4 years of Trump and then spent like drunken sailors during the Biden years.
Why are they screaming and wailing if in 4 years they can get back to Business As Usual?
They must recognize that PDJT is going to destroy what they have built and return our nation to its Constitution roots.
If they had let him take office when he won 2020 they would be getting ready to see him in the rearview mirror (Caution: Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.)
VERY Clever! LOL!
But the bad thing is we would have had Pence as VP and much of the illegal lawfare disclosures and America awakening wouldn’t have happened. This is the best in my opinion.
It shouldn’t be about them getting back to business as usual, but everyone using the 4 years so they don’t have to bare the burden when it does happen. Get out of the system!
Actually, during his first term, they tried every way they could to hamstring him and obstruct his agenda, including impeaching him, and abusing advice and consent to force him to take traitors into his administration.
How quickly we forget they IN NO WAY “stood down” for 1 minute, let alone 4 years.
And, they are not standing down again THIS time,..he’s not even in yet, and he is already doing things, and they are already trying to hamstring him and obstruct his agenda.
“studies on why lesbians are disproportionately fat, etc.”
HA!
Maybe should study why fat women become lesbians….
Yeah, liked that too.
That’s why it’s so important for Trump to properly groom a successor. One who can win as well as continue the legacy.
It’s the one thing I Hated about W back then (there are many things now) – that he washed his hands of who’d come after him. I’d said way back then we need 20 years of solid republican/conservative control to undue the destruction over the previous decades of democrat control.
You really think W was in control of things?
Those cuts get us to maybe breakeven or say a balanced budget. We’ve got to go beyond that to reduce the debt.
Uh….no. Unless you can show us otherwise, the $2 T savings [not 2.5] has never been attached to a single year or even a defined span of years.
But hey — if you can document otherwise, we’d all be grateful 🙂
Sounds good, but reduce spending by $2.5 Trillion and you just cratered the GDP by $2.5 T (except money wasted on Ukraine/Israel etc that doesn’t contribute to GDP). Where did the $2.5 T come from? Money that would have been spend elsewhere on goods/services? Nope. Came from US Treas borrowing. Where did US Treas borrowing come from? A lot from the Fed, some from overseas (recycled dollars creating demand for dollars overseas and thus lower cost for US imports). Be careful what you wish for. The dems would give you higher taxes.
Cut Congressional pay if the budget does not balance
Prior to that, the Congressional budget should be legally limited to finite and very specific necessities. That is all.
For 50 years, everyone in DC and beyond have stole trillions of dollars from the taxpayers.
It makes me sick to realize how much wealth they have taken from us.
Me too.
Cold anger.
Claw it all back.
I expect this will be a payoff to a cartel to make someone wealthier, that’s all any of this ‘aid’ to other countries is.
If it is addressed to the embassy, then it will be for CIA operations I expect.
They tried to do a Balanced Budget Amendment to the constitution back in the 90s I think, after Newt won back the Congress (coulda been 80’s, I can’t recall).
It didn’t get much traction.
Just like term limits for congress. Especially Senators.
I can remember when Paul Ryan was cast in the role of “fiscal conservative” who dragged out his white board to show us all about “balanced budget” blah blah blah.
It is all political theatre.
So far, Chip and Massie == current years Paul Ryan “fiscal conservative” leaders and blah blah blah providers.
It was deemed unConstitutional, and after several Constitutional experts looked at it, and by changing a couple of words that don’t change the effect, it COULD be made Constitutional…
or was that the line item veto,.. not sure.
The only way ANY of the debt gets paid down in any year is if there is no borrowing that year and some of the surplus can be applied to that debt.
You have to be in balance to do that. You can’t pay down the debt UNTIL the budget is balanced.
Do you mean that I cannot pay off my debt by going into further debt??/////
How did you manage to learn that truth?
I wonder why Congress does not know that?
Yup! And good luck with Congress ever having that type of fiduciary restraint.
Just think that we 1st reached a $ 1 Trillion dollar debt on 10/22/1981, 43 years ago. It was said then that we could easily pay it off at anytime and it would not get any higher due to our high GNP(Gross national Product as they called it back then instead GDP.)
Now here we are paying over $ 1 Trillion dollars a year in just interest alone on our over $ 36 Trillion Dollars that will hit over $ 40 Trillion dollars before 2 years are up at the rate we are going.
You can’t pay down the debt UNTIL you generate enough $$$ to cover basic necessities plus have left over $$$ to start paying down the debt after FIRST making the required interest payment.
Which is why PDJTs immediate focus is on economic recovery, dramatically increasing revenue and restructuring government to dramatically reduce costs.
Plus many other things which politically engaged “normies” are still totally unaware of.
Would be an instant recession, but other than that not a bad idea.
when Reagan left off it was just over 1/2 a trillion and most in congress, both Democrats and Republicans were screaming their heads off about it needing to be no more than 250m at any given time. lol
1987, what a dream…
Obviously, at least to Realpolitik pragmatics like PDJT, 2024 =/= 1987
Time to re-ask the same question as before;
IS POLITICS THE BEST WAY TO ADMINISTER OUR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY?
is there a lawful alternative?
if not through “out representatives’ (please stop laughing now, I had great trouble forcing my fingers on that line too), then by what other process?
You haven’t truly lost it as long as you still have your sense of humor! 🙂
And you are so correct, extralegal methods are frowned upon in civilized society.
Wait, does the degeneracy of the left mean we are no longer a civilized society? These questions could cause one to go crazy or to begin drinking heavily.
Careful, and I am serious.
You start down that road, and the next thing you know, your writinga manifesto.
IF, in fact we are actually living in what is effectively a lawless society, because leftists can riot with impunity, so long as their on the leftist side, and jackboot thugs can arrest/incarcerate grannies for expressing themselves, etc….
And, if these people are an intrunsic threat to us and everything we hold dear,…
You look at Luigi Mangione and say ;
“There, but for the grace of GOD, go I,…”
When you have two people in a room all is well. Add a third person and you now have politics.
Fwiw…..
politics == anything that involves more than just one person.
Empowering the first 535 people named in the old telephone books would be a much better way to staff ‘our government’. As William F. Buckley once proposed.
Very interesting take at The Thinker:
” Once something is published in the FR, it takes enormous effort to even attempt to undo it. The question is — why let it get that far? If the government shuts down, so does the Federal Register, which could prevent hundreds of additional rules from being finalized or proposed. This is a truly historic opportunity for Trump, DOGE, and the Republicans.”
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2024/12/stop_the_presses_shutdown_biden_s_midnight_regulations_by_letting_the_government_shutdown_asap.html
Ronald Reagan once said:
“The closest thing to eternal life on earth is a government program.”
Time for the pitchforks?
I for one have no problem with the FEMA being unable to fund the Shelter and Services program for the illegals they love so much in a shutdown after how horribly FEMA treated Americans in TN and NC.
https://www.dhs.gov/news/2024/08/28/department-homeland-security-announces-380-million-additional-funding-communities
Regarding the study to see if Japanese Quail are more promiscuous on cocaine. I don’t think the quail ever got the cocaine. It went to the lab, but was diverted. I think someone got tired of funding their own habit and figured out a way for the tax payers to fund it.
astute
They were using their supply.
that explains how it got into the WhiteHouse, Silly Quail!
Hunter.
Kamala
la-la-la ding-dong
[ sneeze!! ]
Need to study its impact on vultures. I know where 535 vultures reside we can use for study subjects.
I really thought Eli Crane and Tim Burchett were the good guys……
Im surprised at Burchett. Really liked him. ( pass tense)
Hold on, this story isn’t over yet.
Don’t get lost in the fog.
And it’s about to get VERY foggy.
Stormy, even.
Much is not as it seems.
Steady as she goes.
From Sundance’s post, the red line IS the debt ceiling extension. From what I read, the last two bill iterations have removed it so I remain in the shut it down column.
All of this equating that “no” vote to suspend the rules on the second CR as if those “noes” were from RINOs is just insane.
Most, if not all, of those 38 noes were from hard line conservatives who are fed up with the games. And who want the government to either live up to the debt ceiling, or just get rid of it because it’s totally meaningless.
“those 38 noes” were from “hard line conservatives who are TIRED of the games”
So instead they played impatient , cut off nose to spite face, spoiled brat games
while not being too tired to retire ie to immediately resign so someone who is NOT tired can be their voters representative in DC.
They are.
They are fed up with the spending.
And, look what we have now; 3 seperate, stand alone bills which gets us a lot closer to regular order, and how it SHOULD BE done.
“They are fed up”
So what did they do?
Word waaahhhhh on tv then say FU to PDJT by voting against him and with Team Dem and The Swamp.
Despite some urging me to “Please clap” for these remnants from the Jeb! era, my answer is the same as its been since 2015.
NO!!!
I can tell that Eli is one of the most conservative folks I’ve ever talked to. Great listener…A quandary for sure…
I remember when in shut down the last time. I think it was 20o8 or 2012. My impression that they quickly made a deal before the people found out how little the federal government does for them.
Not before Obama shuttered every veteran thing he could find.
The video of the veteran march from the wwii memorial to the white house was epic. They carried all the barricades put up by the park service and dumped them in a pile in front of the white house.
Hate wasteful spending. Hate government.
Principled fiscal conservative solution?
Reward government “workers” by giving them a longer Christmas vacation WITH pay + interest.
😂 😂 😂
Swamps response?
OMG please Brier Conservatives, please, whatever you do, don’t ever throw us in that “government shut down” Brier Patch again”
How do you get a 1500 page spending bill out of a pocket sized Constitution ?
I guess the same way you start with 10 commandments…
Trust God.
Fear not.
https://rumble.com/v6174gb-musk-if-the-size-of-the-law-exceeds-the-word-count-of-lord-of-the-rings-the.html
Because it has been going on so long, very few people actually believe the national debt can collapse the country. Whether that be through inflation or default. I am not an ‘expert’ but have a finance/economics background and I don’t believe that there is no limit without serious consequences. Politicians think through the next election cycle and grift payment.
I don’t agree with Trumps plan to keep the debt ceiling suspended. He should instead be telling congress to start cutting the spending. If you want to make America great again, stop sending money to other countries, stop funding BioLabs. Make it a priority to cut government offices within 6 months. “Pay” for those tax cuts the way that has long term benefits to all people, not just servers and retirees. I am a retiree on social security. We need for Congress to stop thinking our money is their money. That sounds like Modern Economic Theory which is leftist. The Republicans need to stop kicking the can down the road. Be leaders and not followers of the left. I stand behind the 38. They are not RINOs. If President Trump wants to be known as a great President, he’s going to have to do some hard work. Get’r done !
If they don’t suspend the debt ceiling then you can kiss good bye to the continuation of the tax cuts previously enacted under the last Trump Administration. Tax cuts are considered to be “debt”, so no tax cuts if the debt ceiling is not raised or abolished. Neither will we get any of the other tax cuts promised on the campaign trail.
Only our political parties cound conceive of the idea that a cut is debt. That’s a political concept created to justify continued spending without any reductions. I think some of those folks in DC should be voted out and the 38 voted in again.
For years it’s been said of the IRS that they considered any money an individual earned, AND KEPT, was a … tax break.
Also say goodbye to getting rid of the illegals.
How about big lovely spending cuts instead of adding trillions to the debt so that we can get more tax cuts?
But that’s not going to happen, and the “super conservatives” know it because they did the same thing to him in his first term.
The “super conservatives” are forcing President Trump to negotiate with the democrats, which will result in MORE spending, just like during his first administration.
I agree that cuts to spending AND taxes would be best.
But what the “super conservatives” are doing . . . is making tax cuts impossible, unless he gives concessions to the democrats.
Wouldn’t it be better to get a republican plan in place to grow the economy?
These “true conservatives” are blocking part of Trump’s plan to grow the economy, which would GET US OUT of debt through GROWTH, which would save social security too.
Exactly. Plain as day. I’ve been hearing my whole life that “the end is near” due to the debt.
“Tax cuts are considered debt”.
This is progressive Modern Economic Theory. We need to stop looking at it like that. We need to strive for permanent tax cuts. That is our money. If there isn’t enough tax revenue coming in then you need to reduce your spending. It’s called balancing the budget. All businesses must do this annually or they go out of business. It needs to start now while we have both chambers.
President Trump is not, er, the President yet.
You mean Biden is out there calling the shots? Doesn’t look like he has been clued in to any of this.
With the amount of totally worthless government leach employees, you could immediately cut 85% of them and the US would be a better place. Immediately cut the entire funding for the EBT and other total bs giveaways for the illegals. Cut the funding for anything related to the green new scam and all DEI related bs. Wow, we’ve just saved a trillion & haven’t even shown up to do any real work on the budget yet.
How much could we save on foreign aid? Cut it all out. Give aid to Americans in need first. I know much of that is to buy allegiance or to pay off those in control, but most foreign aid could be cut out without Americans even noticing it.
“I don’t agree with President Trumps plan”.
Sad but true.
I-Know-Betters STILL “dont agree with President Trump”, even after 9+ YEARS which included so many ” OMG Trump was right again” responses from people learning they’d been wrong all along while he hadn’t, that its now a world famous reaction.
Fortunately, the guy who actually DOES know better, DJT, is who Americans just re elected to be our country’s President and Plan Decider
Thank God.
The no debt ceiling allowed even more profligate spending.
What, $2 Trillion in New debt every year?
I’ve suggested we sell Federal government land in the West, or issue long-term leases, with 100% of the funds to pay off debt.
Could we generate $5 Trillion this way, along w more clean Natural Gas?
It’s another trillion in debt every 100 days. Likely higher.
What ever happened to the idea of turning over those lands to the States whom have jurisdiction with the properties being within their borders?
The Federal Government was never meant to own so much within the States.
In the west, the federal government owned it before there were states. Even in the Great Lakes, the states relinquished whatever rights they had to the land except for certain Revolutionary War bounty claims and the Western Reserve. Other federal rights to that land came from treaties with the Indians after War of 1812. The feds did donate certain sections within states to the states for education and state (mental) hospitals.
The main exception is Texas, where much of the land had been under Spanish cession.
honest question: I just do not understand this at all?
“Our government considers tax cuts as government spending. So, if congress does $4 trillion in tax cuts, the government considers that $4 trillion in additional spending”
I am not saying it isn’t true. I’m saying I have no idea how this could even be possible. Am not a CPA…but I do I have some small business finance experience and this is something I am completely unfamiliar.
God Bless America
It has already been proven that tax cuts generates MORE funds to the government…
is this just a clever way of not saying the thing out loud:
we cut some taxes, but we are planning to continue to spend at current levels (or higher) regardless, driving up the deficit, like we have done since 2001…like we always done since 1970 (* next to 1998-2001 for the exception).
However, if the debt ceiling limit is once again in place when DJT becomes President again in 30 days, then the DC Swamp can’t pass President Trumps “tax cuts” that will generate “MORE funds to the government”
(while he, and DOGE allies, restructure government and reduce the funds needed by “the government”).
Bottom line, I-Know-Better-Than-Trump politicians actually dont.
I always took it to mean this:
For 2024, you were taxed at a 33% rate every paycheck but now they have decided to give you a tax cut down to 20%. So you have been over taxed to the tune of 13% which means that the government has to cut you a check for the amount that you have overpaid.
In their pea brained minds, cutting you a check for the amount you overpaid is considered “spending”. Once they get their grubby hands on your money, giving it back to you is considered “spending”.
So, when they proudly announce that they are cutting government spending, what they are really doing is not “spending” the money by returning back to you. They are keeping it which means that they did not spend it by giving it back to you.
You have to be evil and devious to understand how they twist words.
Withholding rates really have nothing (directly) to do with tax rates. It does effect the day-to-day operation of the USTreas.
Even worse is that government spending is counted as GDP.
If the government approved a 300 trillion dollar budget, our GDP would be incredible! Best ever GDP growth in history!
See how that works?
I need a long nap and wish I never asked the question. Now I am just angry and throwing furniture around.
But thanks. I asked. I should not have.
It’s been one of those weeks.
God Bless America
Deep breaths, Bro!
Enjoy the nap.
Well, of course it is GDP. The real question is the significance of GDP (we’re assured by TOP MEN that it’s critical).
Cause it causes a lower return in tax receipts, they say.
Go on war footing (without being in wars and nation building and fake medicine), we could easily make up the diff and drill.
Totally agree with you.
A lower TAX RATE is not necessarily a tax REVENUE cut. In fact, most often lower RATES end up producing more tax REVENUE.
I think that I follow but in those instances, that would be linked to a growing economy…and / or more people paying taxes and /or less spending by USG.
maybe it’s best I just quit with this line of curiosity. At this point my level of complete and utter mistrust in how our government handles a budget is unmanageable. I’m running out of working furniture here.
I’m gonna take the rest of the day off. I’ll see everyone again tomorrow…maybe.
God Bless America
Please come back, we need you.
Seriously, start with the Gummint does not calculate budgets the way you do, for yourself, your family or your company.
They make the rules and they don’t even have to
abide by them; a simple vote in the middle of the night, and they can suspend any rule.
And they want it complicated and nonsensical, SO THAT we would break furniture and throw our hands up and walk away, in disgust.
Meanwhile, they continue to steal our $.
Well, that’s the theory but put five economists in the room you get five opinions. Problem is you only get one experiment (with the actual rates in effect); everything else is a model with different boundary conditions.
Like anything else you have revenue and expenses. If you decrease revenue, or increase spending, it has the same effect on the balance sheet. The “dynamic” vs “static” scoring bit is an argument on the relation of tax rates to revenue.
How many of those 38 true conservatives voted to give Biden his CR/omnibust last December without threatening a shutdown?
Dang good question!
Not sure why my comments are missing, but let me say that no amount of gaslighting will work here.
All the conservative people I know who buy into the Gutfeld-esque BS and wanted COVID shots think that Musk and JD Vance are studs right now.
I find it hard to believe Trump said to vote yes on this nightmare.
It is the optics of voting NO that are favorable. In my state the one who voted NO was the good guy. The one who voted yes is not.
And yes, Gutfeld can be funny. But it is controlled opposition. Hardy har har, so and so destroyed! Nancy!!!! Boom!!!
It allows them to look like they are for the little people while they ignore the meaningful issues.
Do you actually watch the show?
“I find it hard to believe Trump said to vote yes on this nightmare”.
I also find attacking a member of the Freedom Caucus with threats of a primary to be unproductive as well when we have the thinnest margin in the House. Why piss off members of our own party whose votes we will be begging for in a few months? Trump helped to gut the house with at least 3 administrative appointments which also wasn’t very smart.
You mean never Trumper Chip Soy?
The one who praised George Floyd and wanted PDJT convicted.
Beg all you want to. It’s just like Obamacare, they will cave when it really matters.
If Trump truly needs the votes … as we have seen over and over and over and over… they Uniparty will find just enough to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Even having the majority and all that comes with, our esteemed speaker croaks on command.
Trump is playing the Democrats and RINOs for the fools they are.
Remember this:
You can bet Trump does.
Schumer and his RINO pals expected the 1547 page monstrosity to pass and it didn’t. They have no second option and are caught with their pants down. Pass the 116 page CR Trump wins. Decline the 116 page behemoth and the government shuts down they are the reason. Pass the original 1547 monstrosity which we the public now know what it is and they face our wrath. Scmuck is stuck. IMO government can shut down until Trump is sworn in, let the demos and RINOs stew in their own muck.
“members of our own party”
“Our” == ???
NOT the party whose ELECTED LEADER == President Trump
Sometimes comments get turfed to the ‘bin’. Or they show up later. I think it is “timing” in order to get the tax cuts thru…like not tax on tips, social security or overtime…
Only God is truly “good”.
The ” one who voted NO” was NOT willing to be on President Trumps Team. Consequently, that “one” would definitely be considered “the bad guy” team mate; a team mate who needs to shape up before Trumps Team trades them for someone who isn’t an I-Know-Better prima donna.
Conversely, “the one who voted yes” as President Trump asked them to do was “the good guy” team mate.
The farcical “debt ceiling” graphed:
Exactly, the “true conservatives” who are voting against President Trump’s plan have been doing NOTHING to stop the debt increase.
As a result of their actions, they let the democrats control spending.
If the true conservatives truly wanted to make this country better, they would try President Trump’s plan and give him the maximum support.
Instead, we see what we see.
And thanks to fake conservative losers like desimp chip roy, dems will have leverage in the tax cut debates with the debt ceiling as well. If he wanted spending cuts, he damn well should have moved the useless debt ceiling well past the tax cuts debate. But being a worthless blowhard who is making a career out of yelling “everything must be fixed This Vote or I vote no!” On a multi trillion dollar issue, what more can you expect. Total grifter or total idiot, you decide.
Exactly this. Chip Soy does not care about the debt. It is all an act.
Bull carp 🙂
The problem is that Roy is inflexible.
If he really cared about the debt he’d be . . . flexible, n’est-ce pas?
I remember last time it happened. Not much changed. In fact, I’d be happy if it happened again, so when the “avian flu pandemic” starts the government can’t do crap.
Probably the best thing that could happen is a govy shut down. Send the bureaucrat’s home so we the people don’t have to deal with their dictates and idiotic made-up regulations.
But that scenario racks up more debt because those workers get paid for doing nothing as soon as they return, regardless of how long it is.
At this point the only thing that will reset the debt is either DOGE or a war. I really don’t care.
Ah, but thats assuming they DO return.
Shut it down, which dilineates “essential” services ;(which continue) and NON-essential services, which have their workers furloughed.
Gives DOGE a good starting point; fire all the furloughed workers, and close their departments.
Just my 2 cents. I commented on this the last almost shut down. My guy is contracted by the GOV but he is not a gov’t employee. He is a blue collar welder. “Essential” in all ways but this. Last shut down, when all got vacay and back pay, he got furloughed for 3 weeks and nothing ( told him that he needed to apply for unemployment. Which of course was not approved until shut down was over.) Sorry sucks for you. (him)He is for the shut down but his pay will not be reimbursed. The little guy gets screwed no matter what.
I wouldn’t pay them a nickel.
“By not moving the non-existent debt ceiling back two more years, the 38 “true conservatives” stopped the American people from getting more of our money returned via tax cuts and they keep more money in the government.”
-Sundance
.
Did Trump make this clear on his socials?
If not, why not?
Conservative media is lauding Musk and Vivik for defeating the CR, which Sundance says is a loss for MAGA.
Confusing.
If what Sundance says is true….AND I HAVE NO REASON TO DOUBT IT…..then “genius” Musk and Vivik have just undermined Trump.
Defeating original 1500 page monstrosity CR because constituents found out what was in it = good.
Defeating the slim down version (for political drama) that keeps debt ceiling lifted so PDJT gets his agenda funded = not good.
The 38 GOPers who voted “no” to suspend the rules did not kill anything.
That vote required a two thirds majority. Was NEVER going to happen. They knew it. So they used the occasion to make a point.
The first CR needed killing. It was the second CR that Trump wanted passed that the evil 38 sunk.
They sunk nothing
I call bull.
Because the bill needed a 2/3 vote, and THAT was never in the cards 🙂
Chuckles is going to shut down the government good.
“Chuck Schumer Demands Return to Bloated 1,500-Page Spending Disaster, Threatens Government Shutdown (VIDEO)”
Excerpts:
“If the House put our original agreement on the floor today, it would pass, and we could put the threat of a shutdown behind us,” Schumer said.
“Our agreement would keep the government open, provide emergency aid for communities battered by hurricanes and other natural disasters, support our seniors, support our doctors, nurses, rural hospitals, and protect our farmers from the dairy cliff. As I said, the only, only way to get anything done is through bipartisanship.”
Oh the old, it’s going to hurt disaster victims and old people and and….His idea of bipartisanship is a $70,000 pay increase for “representation”.
“It’s time to go back to the original agreement we had just a few days ago. It’s time the House votes on our bipartisan CR. It’s the quickest, simplest, and easiest way we can make sure the government stays open while delivering critical emergency aid to the American people,” said the delusional Senator on the 1,500-page spending disaster.
“It’s the quickest, simplest, and easiest way”. We don’t want quick, simple and easy. That’s exactly WHY we are $40 Trillion in DEBT.

Go Valentina!!!!
(1) Valentina Gomez on X: “I’m running for Congress in Texas. I don’t fear pdfs, criminals, or the crooks in DC. I only fear God. https://t.co/sWiZBOdTmf” / X
So frustrating to have to work with these idiots.
Someone needs to explain this to me: Our government considers tax cuts as government spending. So, if congress does $4 trillion in tax cuts, the government considers that $4 trillion in additional spending. Does this have to do with paygo?
Does someone actually think that has to be payed back, and to whom?
Look, operating results = Revenue – Expenses. Lowering revenue or increasing expenses has the same effect.
Inflation will destroy the Low, Middle and Upper Class.
Federal Reserve electronically prints money out of thin air.
The Dollar will no longer be the ‘World’s Reserve Currency’.
Go back to the base concept of the previously legislated Congressional Budget Act and have separate spending budgets, each having to be individually approved by Congress, for the approximate 20 line items/categories comprising the totality of the Federal Government’s fiscal year operating budget. That process negates the possibility of the entire budget being rejected over any disagreement regarding funding one or several line items. It also would allow a more accurate tracking/accountability of the US taxpayers money regarding it’s intended purpose and reveal any potential non allocated kick back/slush money trough laundering funds.
And redo line item veto.
Absolutely
Is the picture of Chip Roy supposed to represent the illusion of choice (the truth) or are we still pretending there are two opposing political parties in Congress and/or Chip is a Conservative?
Shut ‘er down.
IT’S NOT YOURS TO GIVE.
I will gladly hamburger you Tuesday for a pay you today.
No pickles, thank you.
So what is in it? What did Johnson give the dems that we don’t know about yet?
What did he give the dems? Every Da&& thing they wanted.
Massie ought to buy himself a comb. Looks like a little kid.
And some shampoo.
Is a government shutdown that bad when one would consider that it would stop President Biden’s late hour regulations. I believe if the government shuts down so does the Federal Register. That means none of the late rules by President Biden do not enter the Federal Register which in turns prevents them from being finalized or proposed. I wonder why brave republicans, DOGE or Trump have not considered this?
The negative aspect is that government will reopen but anything, including tax cuts, that President Trump and the few MAGA republicans want to get passed will have to clear the hurdle of another shutdown BEFORE President Trump can implement anything. Life in DC swampland will go on unaffected.
Right now, the Democrats have the majority in the Senate. That changes on January 3rd. Mitch will no longer be the Minority Leader and Schumer will no longer be the Majority Leader. Thune will be the one who decides which bills to call up.
The Republicans keep the House.
How would budget negotiations and votes work during a shutdown?
Does the Treasury have the ability to commandeer a loan from the federal employee benefit pot-o-gold as has been done previously when debt ceilings loomed?
I wouldn’t try to judge too much of this right now. The only certainty here is that the Uniparty wants to tie Trump’s hands.
But what he’s saying is likely tactical in nature, to disrupt the above, and expose it. His strategy is to block the tying. The words are less important.
Heck, Chip Roy may be a part of that, even if Trump’s not letting him in on the strategy. I’d guess only The Boss knows what this is.
Trump will continue to try to flip Johnson to his ends, like he did with the last 2. It may not work, but why not try?
In the end, McConnell can overpower Trump, but disruption is possible along the way. Breaking up this lame duck deviltry, by any means possible.
I am so tired of corrupt government. I think it’s time to start over.
https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/12/20/congress/house-gop-moves-forward-on-new-funding-plan-00195660
Why do I think that there is something wrong here. Does the new, new bill include the blocking of investigations into the nefarious actions of the J6 committee and such by denying information to the Justice department. This was the cute little inset they had in the original bill.
Why so sneaky Speaker Johnson.
Because Speaker Johnson has disfunctional family members, that the deep state has threatened, if he doesn’t do whatever sneaky thing they tell him to do..
I am curious to know how many of these 38 voted for Kevin McCarthy as Speaker?
I know that Eric Burlison of Missouri didn’t vote for McCarthy
Holy cow. Thank you for the incisive explanation, Sundance.
The game remains the same
Extending the debt ceiling for 2 years to enable tax cuts as well as his various appointments and nominations in the economic areas plus his campaign announcements (like the tax cuts), all to me suggests 47 is expecting that the same general formula he applied 2016-2020 to produce results in a similar way it did back then. And the tax cuts were a big part of that success back then.
But nothing 47 has said over the campaign nor since, suggests he appreciates how profoundly the economic trading environment has shifted since then. The world of 2024 is profoundly different from what it was in 2020, geopolitically, geoeconomically and geostrategically. The same formula he used with such success 2016-20 is not going to have the same results if applied today, far from it. He has far less leverage today than he had back then because the major non-Western international players like China, Russia and Iran, are far less dependent on interacting economically with any nations in the West, be they EU, Japan, US, UK, or anyone else. Today, high tariffs applied in the US will simply invigorate China to sell more into the Global South markets, rather than result in a net negative toward China. Russia hasn’t suffered at all by the sanctions the US has thrown at it, so why would it care about even more of them? This is just internationally.
Domestically, in the US, you have high inflation, and a certain likelihood of super-high oil prices if 47 helps Israel by hitting Iran. How are tax cuts going to help you in the face of that, if that happens? Because if oil prices go through the roof, then so does the already high inflation, and even massive tax cuts are quickly swallowed up, under that scenario. Which given what 47 has said and done to date about helping Israel do that, seems not unlikely.
That’s just some examples of the massively changed international and domestic conditions you face in the US, which 47 doesn’t even seem to be recognising, let alone adjusting his policies accordingly in response to.
Uh huh.
🙄
“…spending in the tax code…”
-Barack Obama, and others
This statement implies that every dollar we earn belongs to them, and we only survive via tax code spending.
They view us as slaves.
Remember when they brought out the word “sharing” as though there was equal ownership or give and take when it actually meant “take from you and give to someone that we deem more important”?
Shut it down. Enough of the theatre.
Yes, please explain again why it makes a rat’s a.. to have a majority in the U.S. congress?
They won’t impeach PDJT.
Might want to rethink that. ‘Impeach’ has more than one meaning.
A Republican majority benefits MAGA very little, and can even be a detriment.
A MAGA majority would be, well SOMETHING to see!
The 2017 Trump tax cuts end next year. Extending those, plus new cuts for Social Security tax and tip tax will be opposed by democrats using the “debt limit” as their hammer. Even with DOGE Trump is not going to offer a budget with no new borrowing.
Need to follow PDJT and get the debt ceiling out of the way now. Being a “budget hawk” (which tends to be all talk anyway) is not MAGA.
If the government “shuts down” but nobody notices, do we really need the depts. that were shut down?
Thank you for explaining the tax cuts viewed as spending. That’s literally the first time I’ve heard that before.
If that’s true then why wouldn’t Trump just say that?
The debt ceiling constantly getting pushed out has always resulted in nothing but absolute unconditional and wasted spending for decades. I hear you on the fact that this time it’s under Trump and will be different. But forgive my skepticism. He has filthy grubbing politicians to deal with who will always adding pork to the bill.
I’m worried about this Sundance. This is asking us to trust that Congress will not abuse and negate whatever tax cuts made with more spending that will drive inflation. And it’s asking us to trust now that we are fully AWAKE to the corruption.
Do I trust Trump. Yes. But this is asking a lot. No debt ceiling has done nothing but hurt us in the past.
The current gathering of political wonks has to be the laughing stock of the world. This is embarrassing. They have no credibility left.
Ooooh scary. A gov shutdown. Of course the progressives and swamp
critters express horror that their favorite thing, government, might shut down for a day or two. Oh the horror! But to most of us we know it’s a pathetic charade. Heck gov employees aren’t there anyway even when it isn’t shut down.
the best scenario is one where the government defaults on the debt, cant loan anymore and has to file for bankruptcy
the worst part of a government shutdown is when it ends.
