A CODEL or Congressional Delegation, is DC speak for a taxpayer funded vacation. Apparently, Nancy Pelosi fell down a marble staircase in front of all the lawmakers and dignitaries during an official visit at the Grand Duke’s palace in Luxembourg.

Maybe, but my mother fell and broke a hip at age 81, then fell and broke the other at 85. Had replacements both times, and never heard about such risks from doctors. She recovered from both hip replacements and lived to spry 97.
That is very rare, your mom had a very strong constitution. Doctors don’t usually tell you or the family pre-hip surgery you are going to die, they just do the surgery. Dying from a broken hip has long been documented, it is very common. Your mom was an exception to the rule.

My Grandpa broke his hip at 99. The healing process sapped his energy and he died a couple of months shy of turning 100.
Age 50 seems a bit young for that poor of a chance. I would believe 80 would have a poor chance of surviving another year based upon personal observations of people I have personally known. Of course, the cognitive ability plays a big role in that anesthetics take a huge toll on people with symptoms of dementia.

Retired Magistrate here: At 84 years of age, falling and breaking your hip is a big deal.
When I was 62 I fell on the ice and broke my hip. My husband and I were out walking our dog, it was snowy and cold and getting dark. He asked me if I could get up, I tried and almost passed out. He had to leave me in the snow and go home and get the car; we went immediately to the ER and he carried me in. An x ray was taken and I was told not to move my hip because the fracture was so near the major artery which runs down the hip.
Thankfully, due to my age and activity level, my surgeon was able to pin me back together. However, it was a long, painful healing process. Some people never recover after breaking a hip, especially someone 84 years of age.
Nancy Pelosi is not one of my favorite people; however, I do hope she recovers from this and decides to retire and enjoy whatever time she has left on this earth.
