After Germany surrendered, Patton wanted to reconstitute the German army and, using it as the western nation’s foot soldiers (read: cannon fodder), go to Moscow and get rid of Stalin and the communists. His reasoning was simple:

B. Eastern europe was already destroyed, so there was little to further damage

D. Most russian soldiers were conscripts fighting under the threat of death by russian communists, not volunteers. If the red army knew and understood the western armies were coming for Stalin and the hated communists, most would surrender or even turn against their overlords as fast as they could.
D. A supply-cut-off Russia had no hope of countering US airpower. America would supply the air power and artillery, and Germany would supply the foot soldiers (and given the understanding of the intent, the Germans would relish the opportunitynto take their evenge upon the communists).
It would’ve been over in a year or less, esp. given the total domination of the airspace over Russia.
Now, consider….
Had this happened, it is reasonable to assume that we would have stood up a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY in Russia after deposing Stalin and his commie goons. moreover, all of eastern europe would have remained independent nations, not falling under the boot heel of the communists’ “Soviet Union”.

There would have been no “cold war”.
