Just because he CAN doesn’t mean he intends to. He’s submitted resignation letters stating his intent. It’s unclear if he has any interest in a US Senate seat. It is clear he does not intend to take the seat in the US House for which he was reelected

This should not and should never be “the political process.”

Trump’s lawyers in every swing state ensured no monkey business would impede him. I have little doubt Trump’s AG (whoever that will be) will dig into the matter later, but why not leave the lawyers there to ensure the MAGA agenda was protected?!

A Governor can not appoint a member of the US House. But, depending on the state, he can appoint a Senator to fill an empty seat.

He could be an obstacle to the Senate blocking recess appointments by (ab)using pro forma sessions. Last I knew that as a motion required unanimity to pass in the body and a minority of vocal dissenters would put a wrench in that scheme.

I think Gaetz is done, of his own doing. Had his prior activities not been in the form of electronic (Venmo) and check receipts (who writes a check to Cash for Tuition reimbursement in the memo?) he probably would’ve been confirmed as AG.
While I don’t agree with the ethics report being given to ABC news, I guarantee this info would’ve been given to the Senate committee and would be impossible for Gaetz to overcome.
