President Trump has announced the creation of a new department. The Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE (tongue in cheek head nod to the Dogecoin cryptocurrency created by Musk). Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will be tasked with reducing the size and scope of government and completing the agenda by July 4th, 2026.

Whenever you buy a new company this is what you do. Rehires start with new contractual agreements, all others are let go. Only fly in the ointment is that many (if not all) are union members but Trump has surmised that already as he has dealt with this problem in building his hotels and other properties. Vivek and Elon are up to the task to be sure.

The announcement states, “To drive this kind of drastic change, the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside of Government ”. (emphasis mine).
So, does joining a treaty. Yet, congress wasn’t involved in the joining of the Paris Accord (re; Treaty).
I can’t wait to see the votes required to implement their efficiency on a permanent basis. I have no doubt they will be successful in making the recommendations and Trumps ability to implement them but to make them permanent you need a law and that’s where I don’t believe the beast can be tamed as it’s just too dam big and powerful.
I don’t understand why they need a Dept. All they really need is office space and a budget for enough analysts to examine exactly what to cut and what to preserve. Besides, a permanent Dept will be abused when gets back into commie hands.

I would add that the recent Supreme Court ruling on Executive power affirmed that he has full authority vested in the presidency with core and peripheral actions….

Dan Bongino opened his radio show today with a list of reasons why someone may NOT be able to join this administration, such as they aren’t in a position to relocate (kids in school, elderly parents type thing), they are contractually tied to other obligations, they have conflicts of interest, we can’t afford to lose another republican member of Congress, they can’t pass a background check, etc. I think a fair number of the people coming from outside government positions are likely taking a pay cut as well.

Vivek’s recent interview with Tucker Carlson becomes “must hear” news. Vivek clearly outlined the internal mechanics of downsizing the need for a large government bureaucracy, which then creates an “industrial need” for government layoffs, outside of normal civil service legal constraints. That in turn, drives long term budget reductions necessary to address the national deficits and debt. My first thought was “Wow, if he can do this, he’s brilliant”. Note that I said “long term”. Vivek realizes from a business perspective that downsizing has a cost (e.g. severance pay, organization costs, etc.), which makes short term reductions in the cost of government less likely.
Trump hit a home run with these appointments, IMHO. The real question will be the level of authority these two have to make the changes necessary, when each Cabinet Secretary runs their own fiefdom. The ones who are Senate-confirmed with a $budget$ usually win any tug-a-war against outsiders (and I’m speaking from early career, personal experience on that).
Go read the Supreme Court ruling on Executive Branch Power…The cabinet is in his wheelhouse as are most of the bloated agencies. He has the duty and authority to remove economic and security threats, from his branch and our Republic.
