UPDATE: We will continue bumping this thread to keep the communication lines available.
...”I live in the Western part of the US; reading these comments is like listening in on a (telephone) party line. This is the first I’ve heard firsthand live reports from the people directly affected. For the first time there is no canned, approved spoon fed mis-information delivered by the faceless and unaffected paid to be there.”….
Which is exactly the reason we keep this thread going!
As the areas in Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina and the Western gulf coast of Florida continue recovery operations from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our thoughts are with those who are still impacted and dealing with the long-term recovery process.
If you have stability and the ability to communicate, we are wondering how you guys are doing.

Working with several ground groups, we have sent toolboxes and resources into the area for the arduous tasks that remain. There are many who feel overwhelmed; just know our thoughts and deepest prayers remain with you. It will get a little better every day.
Resourceful teams (mostly electrical restoration experts) who learned quickly after they helped the Puerto Rico Mountain areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria are doing amazing work reaching some of the more isolated areas. These are good friends with a git-r-done approach.
Eastern Tennessee power has mostly returned; however, approximately 23,500 of the 1.5 million customers that lost power, just in the Western North Carolina area still lack electricity as of today, according to Poweroutage.us. Additionally, there are still about 365,000 Floridians without power.
The power restoration in the dense mountain forests of WNC is slow going, some roads and bridges are completely washed away. According to the Associated Press report, “The crews aren’t doing what they typically do, which is a repair effort. They’re rebuilding from the ground up,” said Kristie Aldridge, vice president of communications at North Carolina Electric Cooperatives {link}.
There are widespread rumors and disparate reports of the overall death toll, at last count was well over 200. Anecdotal reports from people in the WNC region put the death toll much higher but are difficult to confirm. We do not want to spread rumors, yet we simultaneously accept this close to the election there is an unfortunate incentive for both federal and state emergency management officials to keep the death toll numbers hidden.
The bottom line is a concern for everyone in the impact areas. Therefore, ground reports are the most valuable. How are y’all doing?
Dear God of grace and strength, in the midst of uncertainty, fear and change we turn to You for stability and strength. Please grant us the wisdom and fortitude to navigate the unknown, the courage to face challenges, and the faith to trust Your divine plan.
Heavenly Father, let Your unwavering presence be our anchor in the aftermath of these storms. Grant us the resilience to face the challenges of recovery with grace and hearts filled with purpose. May we continue to find, patience, stability and fellowship in Your eternal love.
Thank You for guiding us through these uncertain times. In Jesus blessed and loving name we pray. ~ Amen.

This was Friday night in the WNC mountains – with people still in tents.
Couldn’t find an address or an Amazon needs list. Anyone more skilled than I who can find that, kindly post the info here? Thank you.
For what specifically Fionnagh? I think I’ve provided links to pretty most in past pages – but if there is a specific you don’t have, please let me know.
Found it – wanted to donate to Operation Shelter managed by Mr. Hendrix, so that he/his team can keep getting people into RVs.

Volunteers from all over have been helping in the areas effected by Helene.
Helene Recovery / Western NC Relief- Did a trip to Avery County to deliver groceries / foodstuffs to wethepeoplemission.us, who are doing some great work!! Made a stop to check on a new friend in Burnsville who operates the Charity House Mission and wow!! A group of volunteers from West Virginia were there serving Turkey Dinners to anyone who wanted one. Too bad I’d just had a sausage biscuit right before I got there.
Turkey, all the fixings…including dessert!! THIS is the kind of thing that… if there is a ‘silver lining’ to this Helene situation, it’s this reawakening of “Love your neighbor”… “Do unto others” and it is really something to be just a tiny part of it.
Shawn has been setting up larger tents with wood stoves in them for heating and cooking.
Here’s the link to the now modified rules that were hastily approved after various events…

Note: The new rules do NOT apply to anywhere but Buncombe County. Others will hopefully follow suit.
It is common sense. Change the rules.
Some further documentation regarding people being told they can’t use the tiny homes.
Some positive news in the Asheville area – if they don’t use the occasion to gather information on the homeless and take their children like the Red Cross did…

This woman needs immediate assistance in Western North Carolina.
She says that the situation is becoming so desperate that victims of Helene are discussing ending their lives.
@TheShawnHendrix I have her contact information that I’ve sent over, we need a camper for her and others. She is in contact with people sleeping in tents and cars.
I pray that there are volunteer mental health professionals somewhere close that can counsel these desperate souls.
A possible reason for the FeMa camps and how they have been setup…
We were all wondering what the FEMA camp / compound is that’s currently in North Carolina. It appears it’s not that.
From what I’m seeing it looks like it’s actually DMORT – Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team.
These facilities are used as temporary morgue facilities to track and identify remains.
This would explain why they are not housing anyone there – this would also explain why there is massive security detail at this place.
Now ask yourself –
If the death toll is 103 (as of November 21st), why would a DMORT facility be needed?
Source information:
“An HHS Incident Management Team is working closely with state officials to identify health care needs including in rural communities and areas which may be cut off from transportation systems. HHS has also deployed two Disaster Mortuary Assistance Team (DMORT) to assist state mortuary services in mortuary care of victim identification. HHS has made 9 DMORT teams available nationwide. Additionally, 200 Federal ambulances have been provided to North Carolina.”
There are multiple links (4) at the end of the tweet for source data.

Perhaps they are there to house the bodies of those who are going to freeze to death this winter due to FEMA’s negligence.
I just can’t go there in my head.
Respectfully, CC, I can. And that’s why I keep tagging along on this lonely thread.
Pastor feeding 100/day in an area where there are no grocery stores left. Items can be shipped in.
Ah bless you for including the contact info and an available source! It’s been gosh-darned frustrating wanting to help but being unable to confirm the who, what and whree.
Anytime you need specific info, feel free to ask and I’ll get it for you if possible. Did you see the two recent (last week) links to websites that list multiple groups and contacts?
This is something I can do–send supplies. Thank you for the contact info.
In light of everything – some good reminders.
I hear of Small Miracles all over the hills of NC. This family lost everything, including a bag containing their life savings….David James and ‘Wonder Women’ went on a mission to find it….
….and find it they did!
We need as many miracles as we can find these days…
In a tiny area in NC called Toottie’s Creek, a community lived a peaceful life until their little creek turned into a rushing river with mudslides….
As folks cling to love ones, within seconds, it was wiped out….most didn’t survive….
… a local’s devastating testimony.
Finally! Someone is reporting!

A second source identifying the likely use of the guarded, secret FEMA camps is indeed DMORT facilities.
The mystery has been solved on the camp in WNC that was said to be a FEMA camp. Nope! Its not a FEMA camp…it’s a Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team. ( DMORT) They’ve been counting bodies all along. Why do you think they need to keep it a secret? When the government hides things, it’s time to start investigating. We all know they are up to no good. Again, why the secrecy?
Disgusting and intentional…
FEMA has just admitted it has over 500 families on an approved waitlist for homes in #WNC.
It has only delivered a total of 14.
When asked when the other 486 homes would be delivered, their response was:
“No timeline.”
Update on Bakersville, NC
This drone footage was taken yesterday.
Obviously our Appalachian region has undergone a complete topographical shift that is impossible to put into words….
Just violent and devastating….
Unfortunately another cold front is approaching and night time temps are going to go down even further over the weekend.

The story continues to get worse. Both @NCNationalGuard and Title 10 federal forces have been pulled from #WNC, compared to the 15,000+ troops deployed in Houston, New Orleans, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. A @fema spokesman told me that WNC is “the worst disaster I’ve ever seen, times 10.” At its peak, the largest military presence in WNC was only 3,150 troops. Now, there are none—just in time for Thanksgiving and the winter’s cold. Both @NC_Governor and @POTUS need to answer for this.
And yes, @NCNationalGuard‘s pinned X post says, “this mission is no fail, and we’ll continue to work around the clock until it’s complete.” However, they are not there and are currently posting old photos as if their operations are current. (Go there, see for yourself. They’ve posted photos just today that show full green and colorful leaf foliage on trees. Those leaves are now brown or fallen.)
We will have more details on @theblaze and @BlazeTV soon.

Operation Helo gives a statement about not being allowed to put campers in the newly remapped flood zones of Western North Carolina.
This needs criminal investigation.

This is ludicrous and malfeasance to the max.
Adding insult to injury, FEMA just can’t admit failure.
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL the HEROES working in the COLD Appalachian Mountains this afternoon!
visited the America Cares relief warehouse located in Arden NC a few minutes ago and I asked Jennifer Jones and Holly Cape what are immediate needs in terms of relief supplies. Information for any who have vouchers from FeMa that are close to running out…
So, I’ve filed/researched & am also working to see what process to take to extend the deadlines for the vouchers from @FEMA. One family I’m working with loses their voucher in 2 days. They will be going to a donors vacant condo until placement for them is found. The other family…

The American way – just get-r-done.
This is SO bad ass!!!
A small community in Black Mtn, NC was desperate for a new well….
Until these boys showed up.
…local boys brought in their equipment this week and just took care of business!
It’s true y’all: country boys will survive.
America Strong
Never let anyone tell you something can’t be done. Never give up. Never give in. Pray.
God Bless Samaritan’s Purse for all they do. The building and rebuilding will take much time though – there are still many that have no time. We must all continue to push and do that within each of our abilities to help – include prayer without ceasing. On this day of Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks to our creator and our Lord and Savior for all the positives in our lives – including life itself – and let’s try to give others reasons to be thankful too.

Hurricane Helene left devastation in its wake, changing lives across North Carolina in ways most people can’t fully grasp unless they’ve seen it firsthand. But from the wreckage, there’s been a quiet and powerful story of resilience, generosity, and hope.
I’m thankful for the people who showed not for recognition, but because it was the right thing to do. Men and women who left their comforts behind to serve in the thick of it, capable hands doing hard work with humble hearts. These folks aren’t just disaster relief workers. they’re the glue that’s held communities together when everything else fell apart.
I’m thankful for the survivors who’ve chosen hope over despair. Watching families rebuild their lives, neighbors helping neighbors, and strangers becoming friends reminds me why this work matters.
I’m thankful for the lessons Helene taught us about preparedness, community, and what really matters. It’s not the stuff we own or the comfort we cling to its the people we stand beside when the storms come.
And I’m thankful for every single one of you who’s been part of this journey if you gave time, resources, or just kept us in your prayers.
This Thanksgiving, let’s not just count blessings but be blessings to others. There’s still so much work to do, but together, we’ll keep moving forward, stronger and more united than ever.
Happy Thanksgiving. Stay frosty, stay prepared, and keep serving.
As for the scammers and grifters I hope you forgot to thaw out your turkey.
While DC sends more millions to Ukraine and FeMa continues to intentionally do all they can to bend folks over, others are speaking out – including the man in the video.
If you’re in the Helene devastated areas, don’t forget there are many places offering free Thanksgiving meals to those in need. This thread is filled with the information on the wheres and whens. MC and BBQRelief is one such group.
A bit on the lighter side…someone forgot to remove the innards on their turkey.
Free hot meals this weekend.

It’s the day after – but the things to remember should resonate for the duration of the battle to help.
This is infuriating!
Leigh Brown, a NC Realtor, visits the Old Fort area 2 months after Hurricane Helene. There are debris piles all along the road.
We have been told our government has no money to help WNC, but Leigh did some digging and listen to what she discovered.
Another camper delivered to a Hurricane Helene victim!
This one to Butler TN.
Donated by another Amish guy from Holmes County Ohio!
Thanks to donor, and driver for making this happen!
I don’t have specific numbers but if you’re keeping score of who’s providing housing for the victims of hurricane Helene this brings the total somewhere close to:
US Citizens – 795
US Government – 14
Horrific continues…
THIS NEEDS ATTENTION
Hurricane Helene victim just got information about what’s going on with FEMA’s future plans in the Western North Carolina area
“PROOF of a Land Grab, Day 45”
“We have gotten information that FEMA has announced the new plan to use acquisition, elevation, or mitigation. They have come out and said that there’s going to be those three options — what’s going to happen is through this process there will be rezoning”
“Because they have the right to rezone, — So the buyout was listed that will come in and buy the land.”
“I looked up what the 100-year flood baseline zoning is, and basically they go in and determine if there’s a 1% chance of flooding in that area, then it qualifies under the new 100-year baseline zoning. Here’s the problem, everything that flooded obviously has a 1% chance because it already happened”
“That means enormous amounts of land are going to be considered unbuildable.”
Everyone needs to understand what’s happening here, this is INSANE and exactly what we all thought was going to happen. A total land grab.
True…
A plea to contact county commissioners to allow the tiny homes.
FeMa is both nuts and in for a surprise…
Jenga to the rescue…
