Perhaps this was already known, but it was a new detail to me.
The U.S. Secret Service gave congressional investigators a briefing on the Trump assassination attempt by Ryan Routh at Trump National in Florida. According to Florida Representative Mike Waltz, who is a member of the committee investigating, apparently the U.S. Secret Service agent walked up on Routh from the fence line and saw the barrel of the SKS rifle. The proactive shots fired by the agent were from within 10 feet of Ryan Routh.

Mike Waltz repeats how the FBI are keeping all of the pertinent details surrounding the assassination attempt concealed from the investigating committee under the auspices of an ongoing investigation. Waltz is calling for transparency in both the Pennsylvania attempt and the Florida attempt; however, despite the USSS providing information, anything from the FBI is not being shared.
The detail of a single USSS agent, accidentally discovering Ryan Routh on the fence line further emphasizes just how fortunate we are that this assassination attempt was foiled. It appears the agent just coincidentally walked up on Routh’s position during a standard security sweep, and immediately fired shots after seeing the barrel of the gun. Yikes!

He fired through the fence. He missed and the guy ducked behind the bushes and fled. Maybe only 1 rushed aimed shot, arguably subject to striking the fence, and then a blind dump at a moving target. Fence precludes pursuit.

Routh’s rifle was an SKS semi-auto, in a synthetic sporting rifle stock, with an after-market “duck bill” high capacity magazine (in lieu of the original 10 round fixed magazine), and some sort of optic clamped around the outside. SKS’s are not banned in the US, and there are vast numbers of them around in many configurations. Lethal hits at 250-300 yards are conceivable with this, but it less accurate than an AK in good shape, and is not a machine gun. Choosing it for long distance sniping reflects lack of expertise, lack of funds, or perhaps Routh’s felony background limited his choices (possibly a combo of all these).
I agree that the story does not make sense. I’m not buying the claim that the SS person was less than 10 feet away.

Media sources. Zero or less knowledge of weapons of any sort. They have a fixation on the AR-15, so the initial reports were that’s what it was. Police reported an AK type weapon, probably because of the magazine. Initial reports are usually wrong, seems to me. Especially if not backed up by information from law enforcement. If it’s just media reporting, it is likely incorrect in several details, if not all details.
The new “phrase” is – … the weapon used was an “AK-47 STYLE” or an “AR STYLE” rifle. Whatever the f that means.

The bushes Routh was hiding in are outside the perimeter fence. For purely esthetic purposes, the bushes are outside the golf course fence in order to lessen the disruptive visual impact of a fenceline which is located inside a highly landscaped urbanized area.
Two questions: (1) Why wasn’t the perimeter outside the fence not being swept by SS or LEO personnel immediately before the golf outing, and then during the outing? (2) If the barrel of the rifle was visible, but not Routh himself, why didn’t the SS agent fire a pattern of shots wide enough to hit the perp with at least one round?
Harkening back fifty years to the Watergate hearings, what did the SS agent see, and when did he/she see it?
It is quite possible that firing near instantaneously when the rifle barrel was first spotted, without taking time to carefully set up the shots, was the proper course of action under the circumstances, even if it didn’t result in the perp being wounded or killed.

First … I willing to state without reservation the truth is that the Agent was within 10 feet of THE SHOOTER’S POSITION and NOT THE SHOOTER.
Second … the Agent who proactively FIRED ON THE SHOOTER’S POSITION was a LONE, UNSUPPORTED POINT MAN. Anybody with any sort of tactical training knows what that means.
The AGENT was moving on foot and was responsible, BY HIMSELF, for clearing the a large piece of terrain in few minutes ahead of President Trump’s golf party. He was operating without any sort of human or sensor overwatch, assistance and back-up. That means he was visually and physically attempting to search and clear multiple locations and tree lines. He likely had some sort of pre-brief on spots to specifically check as he MOVED ON-FOOT ahead of President Trump’s party.
I will say this WITH NO RESERVATIONS … the AGENT knew to check this Paparazzi Peep Hole and was walking towards it … the would be shooter for what ever reason BOLTED from his position and was GONE by time the agent closed within 10 feet.
If the forensics of the Agent’s shots are ever released I am willing to bet all his shots HIT near the SKS Rifle. Again the shooter was already on the move through the trees, bushes, whatever … headed to his car when he was SPOTTED by the Random Passer by.
The LONE agent then made the correct tactical decision to secure the would be shooter’s position and continue to search the area visually for accomplices.
As far as spotting the rifle barrel … again this agent was LONE POINT MAN … who’s only means of searching was to make rapid stop and stare (for a few seconds) scans of a very large area. It would be very easy to miss a rifle barrel hidden by bushes, a fence, shade … etc. until he was very close to it’s location.
Stop focusing on the agent and focus on everything that put a lone POINT MAN in such a critical position.
The agent did everything humanly possible and correct in the execution of his mission.
It was pure luck he happened to chose to move towards this location during his LONE SEARCH of this area, instead of another location that was likely on the list in his prebrief. It is a certain fact there are MULTIPLE Paparazzi Peep holes at this location he had to check.
Why the would be shooter chose to leave his weapon, camera and back-packs is another interesting question.
After reading the article and comments, it is easy to see many here have zero concept of what it means to be a POINT MAN or the POINT VEHICLE in a military like operation, especially a LONE POINT with NO SUPPORT … also some here may of forgotten the experience. During my days as a cavalry scout, a lone point was considered a death sentence as your job was to get the bad guys to engage you.

This is Not the first time I have read about a Secret Service agent firing multiple shots without hitting anyone. Plugs(1) daughter was in Washington DC attending some outdoor event when someone tried breaking into one of the vehicles. One of the Secret Service agents on her detail fired multiple shots (if I remember correctly it was six (6) shots) without hitting the suspect.
The question I posted on that article was; “Where did the rounds go? What did the rounds hit?”.
On this incident (the 10-Foot shooting) I have the same questions;

I do not know what the law is in Florida. Here in Texas, anyone discharging a firearm is 100% responsible for each and every round discharge.

He got probation. He got probation when he was arrested and convicted of a crime committed WHILE on probation. Part Of the whole idea of probation is You’re not supposed to get in trouble, Or your probation is cancelled and You go to prison.
So, it’s obvious that this guy is connected. Until he gets disconnected. That would explain the bizarre behavior, laughing while being shackled.. Or,Hell, maybe he’s related to Kamala and can’t control his laughter when Serious stuff is going on.
I’m Glad he didn’t get shot. It’s quite the indictment of the agent, but at least MAYbe we will get useful Intel out of him.

At less than 10ft from that shiny bevel, either one of my Eng Springer Spaniels could have dropped a round on the other end of that barrel. But a purposed missed shot provides another instance of “incompetence” and opportunity for shooter to get away. There’s a reason Routh was so calm and collected, driving with traffic and blending in, and even the LEOs commented on his calm countenance. He knows he has a newly issued get out of jail card.
Newly issued? Sounds like he has a Platinum one, from his lengthy rap sheet – plus his already got out of jail and broken probation but still free lifestyle!
If a judge soon claims he can’t be held on the 2-gun charges, will the State of Floridia be able to charge and hold him for the attempted murder and other crimes? Can Floridia charge him now or do they need to wait? Who is Routh’s Lawyer, the best of the best?
What am I missing? The guy was in a bush with only the barrel showing and we don’t even know how much of the barrel was showing. The agent was shooting at bushes not a person. There were no particulars about what the agent aimed his gun at or how many shots were fired.
I agree if the agent was spraying the area with bullets where he assumed a body would be, the shooter was incredibly lucky not to have been shot.
The video shared no particulars about what EXACTLY happened so I’m assuming many of you have information from other sources that show the shooter shouldn’t have gotten away unscathed. If so share.
It is quite plausible that the shooter had already fled the bushes before the SS agent fired into them. Being in the bushes, Routh would have seen the agent coming long before the agent saw him and had ample opportunity to skedaddle.
As for situational awareness, as to where the agents rounds were landing, at 10 feet he would have been aiming downward, so little danger of collateral damage.
I’m not excusing anything, just stating what easily could have happened, just sayin.

I would like to see a layout map of the shrubs and fence.
The gun muzzle was protruding through the bushes…the gun was protruding through the fence…Routh slept in the shrubs before the golf time…Routh jumped the fence when USSS shot at him…Routh was not spotted in bushes, even though wearing a pink shirt…USSS was walking the fence line alone, just one hole in ahead of Pres. Trump.
This does not add up!
