So the baseline is that their conversations on the subject involved “official conduct.”
The next step is determining whether the presumption can be overcome.
That requires consideration of this question — in the Supreme Court’s own words:
“At a minimum, the President must therefore be immune from prosecution for an official act unless the Government can show that applying a criminal prohibition to that act would pose no “’dangers of intrusion on the authority and functions of the Executive Branch.’”

Knowing that PDJT needs to take a weekend break from campaigning occassionally, and that golf is a favorite PDJT pasttime, Routh waited near the golf course for Trump’s motorcade to appear. He might have been doing this for weeks.
When Trump’s motorcade finally did appear after several weeks of watching for it, Routh then jumped into action, ran over to the fence to a preplanned position, and waited for Trump to come into range.
But this simple explanation raises a question:
If Ryan Wesley Routh could come up with this simple plan, why couldn’t the Secret Service use a little bit of creative imagination in their threat assessment of the golf course and recognize the possibility that someone could hide in the bushes surrounding the golf course and then fire through the fence?
Why weren’t SS agents and/or local LEO officers assigned to constantly patrol the golf course fence line from outside the fence as a deterrent to someone who might take a shot at PDJT from just outside the course?
No one waits for weeks out in the elements on the chance someone comes by. Preposterous.
And all of the red flags presented by Treepers up and down the threads suggests IC knowledge of, assistance to, acquiescence of, and/or potential participation, which is exponentially more plausible and probable are not to be looked at nor considered, or something.

Take a look at the Google satellite picture of the golf course and of the area which surrounds the golf course. As I’ve noted before, if you are Routh, you hang out near the golf course only when you know for a fact PDJT is in town and it’s a weekend. It’s an easy thing to do, especially if you’ve given considerable prior thought as to how as assassination might be attempted.
If you’ve confirmed PDJT is at the golf course because you’ve seen his motorcade enter the facility, you take the time needed to observe whether or not there is a continuous presence of SS and LEO outside the perimeter fence in those places along the fence line where you already know a shot might be successfully taken.
You already know the best vantage points for a shot because you’ve already taken a look at the Google satellite picture of the golf course, and because you’ve already taken a closeup look in person at those particular points along the fence line which might be best to hide in.
After you’ve seen Trump’s motorcade enter the facility, and after you’ve confirmed there is no continuous SS or LEO presence outside the fence line, then you casually walk across the street and patiently hide in the bushes in one of your pre-chosen vantage points until PDJT happens to come along. If Trump does come along, subsequent events either will, or won’t, work out in your favor.
You don’t need inside tips to do any of this. None at all. All you need to know is that Donald Trump’s favorite hobby is golf, he often takes a break from campaigning over a weekend, and often times he plays golf as a diversion from his responsibilities as the Republican nominee.
And so if PDJT enters his own golf course traveling in a motorcade, then he is there to play a round of golf and will be appearing on the green at some point during the afternoon. You already know from your past planning and from your current observations in real time that it’s unlikely you will be detected from outside the perimeter fenceline. So you just hang out in your hiding place until the chance to make a shot presents itself.
As things worked out, Routh wasn’t successful. That said, things might have easily gone the other way. That is one thing we all know for an absolute fact.

Full disclosure: I am a Trump supporter. I think his no taxes on tips and no taxes on social security are both great ideas. They make sense; there is solid reasoning behind them. h
His no taxes on overtime — not so much. Overtime is no different from regular income. Plus…many white collar workers work many hours of ‘overtime’ and do not get paid extra for it whereas hourly workers do get paid extra.
Example:. my husband, an electrical engineer with a phd regularly worked 60-80 hours week and he made less than a friend of ours with a GED who worked on the assembly line at Ford’s and got in a lot of overtime, time and a half, and double time on holidays.
Unless *everybody* who works more than a 40-hour work week gets tax relief, I don’t see this plan as fair or workable.
I’m an electrical engineer. I knew hourly guys that got paid as much or more with overtime. Most of them were offered the opportunity to go salaried and declined for exactly that reason.
BUT — I basically realized that getting upset was pointless. What it came down to was that I was great at techy stuff and crappy at business / negotiating. After deciding to fix that, I now make way more than any hourly guy even with overtime. Although they still have the really good union pension plan.
I’m willing to give up that tax break if that’s what it takes to get Trump in office, because the alternative is unthinkable. The fight for engineers to be fighting is kill H1-B visas. That’ll make all the difference in techy salaries.
My husband worked a union job as an electrician at a large plant. He thinks this is a fantastic idea because sometimes there is so much overtime, you pay much more in taxes (different bracket) such that it isn’t worth working the extra time (but, usually, there is no choice in the matter).
He’s retired now.
Personally, rather than no taxes on OT, maybe it should be taxed at a lower rate? I dunno… I hate taxes. PERIOD! (Don’t be around me at tax time… LOL!).
I am a retired engineer. Never worked less than 60 hours a week and that did not include seemingly endless weeklong trips to who knows where in the world. In turn I was afforded opportunity, – opportunity to earn salary, benefits and bonuses commensurate with the IP, assets and business I was able to generate. My choice.
What has changed in America is that the Blackrock monopolies and federal regulators have removed opportunity incentives for wage earners. The fed sanctioned monopoly-economy ensures overtime is required to pay the bills for hourly workers. We get to work more hours to feed the parasites, which grow fatter.
Trump’s proposal can break the cycle of economic slavery for wage earners.
A note however to your point Oxford, about 5 years before I retired, my company joined a consortium of Big Tech companies that ensured a “leveling of salaries” for certain classes of engineers. That Big Tech collusion was, not coincidentally, timed with Fed policy to expand visas for foreign engineers who worked for far less and pay far less taxes.

Go work overtime and you can partake in the benefit. Oh wait, you have a 9 to 5, weekends off, Christmas off kind of job.
Most of these overtime jobs cover 365 days a year, 7 days a week, and 24 hours a day. That includes Christmas. Many of them have wild fluctuations in staffing needs. The federal government takes MOST of that overtime pay which completely disincentivizes working hard.
When I used to have to work ten 12 hour shifts in a row, I would have to change my tax withholding to 9 dependents for one pay period so that the federal government wouldn’t take MOST of it because they taxed me as though I made that money EVERY PAY PERIOD.
If you always wanted to work 60 hours a week and not get taxed at the overtime then now is the time to go find that kind of job!! Go ahead! You can do it!! That’s fair, right?

Yes. I remember one job that was hourly, 8 hours start to finish, including paid for breaks, and no overtime.
Then they created the same job when they expanded. BUT this new job was 8 hours paid plus one hour for break unpaid (9 hour day) AND a $10,000 per year pay cut AND salaried so that they could work you even more for free!!
This wasn’t a management job. This was skilled grunt work.

In addition … do not discount this attempt may have actually been conducted as part of a publicity campaign to “Rehabilitate the Image of the Secret Service”.
First, notice the charges being used vs the perpetrator. “Federal Gun Charges” … nothing about attempted murder or assault of some type (did this guy even fire the AK-47??). Even if President Trump was not in sight, if the weapon was fired there was a Federal Agent in the line of fire.
Second, note the Interview by the County Sheriff yesterday. He essentially ran down the check list of Secret Service failures from the Butler, PA attempt … with the Secret Service having addressed each one … the media and politicians lead off their comments with, “the Secret Service Prevented…”
Third, the picture of the firing position looks very odd for a weapon with long, bottom protruding magazine and top mounted telescopic sight that has to be mounted rather high due to height of the sights built into the weapon … plus the hole in the fence, at least in the picture shown, seemed to lack vertical clearance to allow sufficient elevation of a weapon like an AK-47 mounting a telescopic sight. This just does not look right.
Let’s see what other facts emerge but I am skeptical of everything produced so far .. this may not have necessarily been “an assassination attempt”.
