Nielsen figures (which are self-reported and therefore vulnerable to fudging) claim 51 million watched that debate. Even if 100% of those were registered voters which is virtually impossible it would be just 32% of all registered voters in the US. However, 61% told the survey they were very to somewhat likely to watch.
And I think debate viewer numbers themselves are very likely inflated because people may say they watched because they think it was their duty to do so.
I’d love to find a well done survey (i.e., done as scientifically as possible) that asks whether anyone actually changed who they were voting for after a “debate.” With two candidates as radically different as Trump/Harris, I’d guess that would be near zero.
So, I think many surveys are crap, debate viewer numbers claimed are crap, and the significance of political debates in our dumbed down, attention deficit political idiocracy is WAY overblown.
However, as I warned about prior to the Trump-Biden debate, if Biden did poorly it would allow the Dims and their lapdog media to “suddenly realize” that Biden was senile and swap in a prepositioned PC/woke candidate – minority female – at the last minute to help her with the stealth campaign she’s been running.
Trump should have waited until AFTER Biden was officially nominated to trap him in that spot since the 25th is a far more difficult way to remove Biden than Biden being forced from running and stepping down PLUS the 25th route would have put Harris in the WH which would have made her stealth campaign for 2024 impossible.
SO, THAT debate was highly useful for the Dims.
