Vice Presidential nominee Senator JD Vance, appears on Meet the Press for an argumentative debate on Trump policy. On the issue of tariffs, this might have been JD Vance’s first opportunity to set the record straight about what tariffs did in the first Trump administration.
Unfortunately, because JD Vance did not have the data to refute the NBC talking points, he missed an opportunity to set the record straight. Tariffs did not raise prices and consumers did not pay tariff rates in the first Trump administration. Factually, the exact opposite happened. Prices dropped when Trump tariffs were put into place, the reasons are explained after the interview. WATCH:
Our own analysis of U.S. consumer prices in 2019 showed that prices of imported goods actually declined despite the tariffs. A recent report from CPA takes a look at the impact to Chinese exports to the U.S. [SEE DATA HERE] Bottom line, the tariffs worked to reduce Chinese imports.
CPA – […] Since the Section 301 tariffs were imposed, the share of imports from China has steadily declined from 21.6% in 2017 the year prior to the tariffs to 16.5%, a decline of 5.1%. No other country has lost as much share of total U.S. import penetration over the past five years.
In terms of total import value, Mexico gained the most from the tariffs, adding $110.8 billion. Vietnam gained the second most in import value by $78.4 billion and by far gained the most of total share of U.S. imports. In 2017, Vietnam accounted for about 2% of U.S. imports at $46.5 billion. In 2022, the U.S. imported $127.5 billion in goods from Vietnam, and the share of the total nearly doubled to 3.9%. Other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia all saw significant increases in their value of imports by the U.S. (read more)
With the 2024 election here, it is worth revisiting the actual tariff outcome to American consumers in order to dispel the popular myths about tariffs raising prices here at home. This might be the cited data you want to bookmark for later reference.
It was the Fourth Quarter of 2019…..
Right before the pandemic would hit a few months later, despite two years of doomsayer predictions from Wall Street’s professional punditry, all of them said Trump’s 2017 steel and aluminum tariffs on China, Canada and the EU would create massive inflation – it just wasn’t happening!
Overall, year-over-year inflation was hovering around 1.7 percent [Table-A BLS]; yup, that was our inflation rate. The rate in the latter half of 2019 was firmed up with less month-over-month fluctuation, and the rate basically remained consistent. [See Below] The U.S. economy was on a smooth glide path, strong, stable, and Main Street was growing with MAGAnomics at work.

A couple of important points. First, unleashing the energy sector to drive down overall costs to consumers, and industry outputs was a key part of President Trump’s America First MAGAnomic initiative. Lower energy prices help the worker economy, middle class and average American more than any other sector.
Which brings us to the second important point. Notice how food prices had very low year-over-year inflation – 0.5 percent. That is a combination of two key issues: low energy costs, and the fracturing of Big Ag’s hold on the farm production and the export dynamic:
(BLS) […] The index for food at home declined for the third month in a row, falling 0.2 percent. The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs decreased 0.7 percent in August as the index for eggs fell 2.6 percent. The index for fruits and vegetables, which rose in July, fell 0.5 percent in August; the index for fresh fruits declined 1.4 percent, but the index for fresh vegetables rose 0.4 percent. The index for cereals and bakery products fell 0.3 percent in August after rising 0.3 percent in July. (link)
For the previous twenty years, food prices had been increasingly controlled by Big Ag, and not by normal supply and demand. The commodity market became a ‘controlled market’. U.S. food outputs (farm production) was controlled and exported to keep the U.S. consumer paying optimal prices.
President Trump’s trade reset was disrupting this process. As farm products were less exported, the cost of the food in our supermarket became reconnected to a ‘more normal’ supply and demand cycle. Food prices dropped, and our pantry costs were lowered.
The Commerce Dept. then announced that retail sales climbed by 0.4 percent in August 2019, twice as high as the 0.2 percent analysts had predicted. The result highlighted retail sales strength of more than 4 percent year-over-year. These excellent results came on the heels of blowout data in July, when households boosted purchases of cars and clothing.
The better-than-expected number stemmed largely from a 1.8 percent jump in spending vehicles. Online sales, meanwhile, also continued to climb, rising 1.6 percent. That’s similar to July 2019, when Amazon held its two-day blowout Prime Day sale. (link)
Despite the efforts to remove and impeach President Trump, it did not look like middle class America was overly concerned about the noise coming from the pundits. Likely that’s because blue collar wages were higher, Main Street inflation was lower, and overall consumer confidence was strong. Yes, MAGAnomics was working.
Additionally, remember all those MSM hours and newspaper column inches where the professional financial pundits were claiming Trump’s tariffs were going to cause massive increases in prices of consumer goods?
Well, exactly the opposite happened [BLS report] Import prices were continuing to drop:
This was a really interesting dynamic that no one in the professional punditry would dare explain.
Donald Trump’s tariffs were targeted to specific sectors of imported products. [Steel, Aluminum, and a host of smaller sectors etc.] However, when the EU and China responded by devaluing their currency, that approach hit all products imported, not just the tariff goods.
Because the EU and China were driving up the value of the dollar, everything we were importing became cheaper. Not just imports from Europe and China, but actually imports from everywhere. All imports were entering the U.S. at substantially lower prices.
This meant when we imported products, we were also importing deflation.
This price result is exactly the opposite of what the economic experts and Wall Street pundits predicted back in 2017 and 2018 when they were pushing the rapid price increase narrative.
Because all the export dependent economies were reacting with such urgency to retain their access to the U.S. market, aggregate import prices were actually lower than they were when the Trump tariffs began:
[…] Prices for imports from China edged down 0.1 percent in August following decreases of 0.2 percent in both July and June. Import prices from China have not advanced on a monthly basis since ticking up 0.1 percent in May 2018. The price index for imports from China fell 1.6 percent for the year ended in August.
[…] Import prices from the European Union fell 0.2 percent in August and 0.3 percent over the past 12 months.
So yes, we know President Trump can save Social Security and Medicare by expanding the economy with his America First economic policy. We do not need to guess if it is possible or listen to pundits theorize about his approach being some random ‘catch phrase’ disconnected from reality. Yes folks, we have the receipts.
This was MAGAnomics at work, and this is entirely what created the middle class MAGA coalition. No other candidate has this economic policy in their outlook, because all other candidates are purchased by the Wall Street multinationals.
America First MAGAnomics is unique to President Trump, because he is the only one independent enough to implement the policy.
That’s just the reality of the situation. They hate him for it…

The MSM are a curse upon the real “our democracy.”
I agree but I also think some podcasts that captivate their viewers full attention are also a curse when they brainwash or mislead their customers either deliberately or not.
Yesterday, I suggested to “a fellow,” that I’ve talked politics with in the past, to watch the historic video of RFK Jr. and P Trump in Arizona. He sternly rebutted me esp the “historic” reference by saying no way will he watch it as PT and RFK Jr. both want to see all “Arabs” annihilated. I made a hopeless attempt to counteract him by mentioning the Abraham accords and the Oct 7th brutal Hamas invasion etc but he said, One half of the victims on that day were killed by the Israeli military and so on. He wasn’t like that, the last time we spoke.
He explained that he never watches MSM but mentioned the few podcasts he follows daily. I wonder how many people are being brainwashed by the worst fringe level podcasts. There are many positive and saner podcasts of course.
It appears the preponderance of psychotic midgets occupying the ranks of the communist political caste in America would indicate an affiliation animated by a severe inferiority complex.
Like all political castes their condition has been augmented over the years by the in-breeding necessary in order for the caste to sustain itself.
Fascinating.
So, what does PT, RFK and the Middle East have to do with a post about tariffs and Vance’s familiarity with it??
Just askin
That is a reasonable question. I was replying to billra’s comment and not directly to SD’s article. Sorry if that upsets your sensibilities but billra’s comment is poignant.
The dissemination of true info or the deliberate distortion of it is a crucially important subject. If JD had brilliantly answered the question with facts as SD outlined, any repeat video clip of the NBC Meet the Press interview would likely have excluded his informed answer.
Just a moronic offshoot of the racist argument. Have to laugh at clowns who have to resort to that pathetic trope.
Arlan: I agree with you. Many people are mesmerized by self-appointed “experts” whose main claim to fame is being good at self promotion.
I can think of two of those types that lurk here at the Treehouse.
CUT THE CORD. FREEDOM of thought!
Our REPUBLIC!
In response to tariffs on its exports China simply devalues it’s own currency to keep market share and the cost of tariff is not passed on to the American consumer. Everybody knows that. It happens every time. JD Vance should know that too!
California Joe: Yes, I agree.
Low information voters (libs) still believe the propaganda press. MAGA knows they are lying. Independents, who knows. No cable at our house. Sometimes I miss a baseball playoff game of maybe the Cowboys. Indigestion is improving.
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥
And I ain’t so sure that JD didn’t know this.
He should of known it.
if Vance is gonna go on talk shows and talk about tariffs and he doesn’t know the topic adequately,
he should frikkin’ take Kudlow with him
I reckon
For sure
That was my first thought. JD Vance should have absolutely known these stats.
I think he does.
😒 🤔 😒 🤔
Know what I mean?
I wish it wasn’t so but it seems to be true. I’m still waiting to see how he does but agree with you this is a sign. Either that or he’s a lot dumber than I thought.
And Sundance was right about Don Jr.
Yeppers.
Et tu, Brutus? Pence 2.0
What really gets me is Vance has had like 2 years of working for CNN with similar show formats when they were talking to politicians.
WHAT STATS? What am I missing here? I thought he did a Great Job! he’s very gracious.
The fact that tariffs did not raise prices or taxes.
“pretending not to know”?
^^^^^^^^^^^
I bet he didn’t. There was some specific cost inflation, but it was limited and wholly offset, and then some, by imported deflation. Hence, net tiny inflation.
Well let’s see how he does on next Sundays talk circuit…
Maybe he will tell them President Trump wrote the Project 2025?
I don’t know anyone that watches msm. NONE!! All of this back and forth is irrelevant.
Gracias Dios
At the DNC convention Leticia James was being interviewed. “It’s very important that 2025 be not consolidated in the hands of one dangerous man,” she said. I saved clip.
Trump has been very clear – he is against a NATIONAL ban, he believes in the 10th amendment and the fact these non-constitutional items belong to each state to decide. I agree with him.
The Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that abortion was a state issue and the federal government had no authority under the Constitution to regulate abortion one way or the other. How would a federal ban be any more legitimate than Roe v. Wade?
Trump or Vance needs to educate the public how ROE was put in place in the first place.we are a representative republic & NO representative every voted for it.
It won’t matter to the party of death. They already know. To them the killings are a “winning” issue. God help us!
“Unfortunately, because JD Vance did not have the data to refute the NBC talking points, he missed an opportunity to set the record straight”. Who is at fault is JDs team that failed him in the preparation for the interview.
you go on MEET THE MESS and you better be packin a big load… them folks are well trained to rip you up
Been wondering if Vance actually understands MEGA economics or is just repeating talking points. He really needs to smarten up a little faster
When was the last time you saw a trained chameleon?
Vance becomes the image of whomever he thinks will advance his status.
Where is the Harris campaign answering ANY questions? We hear nothing from her or Walz. It is pathetic that the American people do not know about their plans which will directly affect our lives – if she is elected. The media needs to put daily pressure on Harris to explain her plans and debate President Trump.
Max Revere: Harris voters have already been told what to believe and there’s nothing more they need, want, or care to know. Besides, there are 10 million to 15 million Harris ballots with the names of illegal voters, all ready to go.
They have nothing to say.
There is nothing they can say that won’t be ripped apart with facts. Pretty hard to drool positive talking points from the path of national destruction they’ve been on.
Also…. where is Biden? Shocking to me that the country does not even ask. We actully accept t his bs as normal. Van should have flipped the script and made the news that way.
We know their plans….four more years of the destroyer Obummer
Of all the trash who PDT’s new AG should find a way to get under oath, it’s that evil piece of human garbage
The above photo is possibly my favourite one from President Trump’s first four years.
I absolutely love it.
Sounds like Laura Loomer (because she packs beaucoup sand) should ping JD on the Musk site and “break his balls” a little bit to maybe start reading CTH if he actually has designs on getting this Republic straightened out.
Sadly I don’t see Vivek walking into a buzzsaw like that..
Vance better wake the eff up.
First time I’ve seen him off his game. Have to wonder if he’s feeling a tad eclipsed by Kennedy’s reception into MAGA. Either that, or BK’s musings are accurate.
Here we go..
In less than a month. 👀
Then here comes Bobby socks to save the day with his CIA campaign staff.
2 personalities with DS IC connections pushed on Trump back to back.
Whole thing is there for those “with eyes to see.”
And people think Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Ronny Milsap were blind.
Once you see the strings….
Meet the new boss(es), same as the old boss(es).
Maybe I will wind up being wrong, but I Will Not Get Fooled Again!
I sleep (when possible) in my “They Live” shades..😎
BK: You are not wrong.
So bk is not voting?
Ain’t never said I wasn’t voting.
You’re making up stuff now.
I don’t trust Vance nor Bobby.
Apples to oranges issues.
I have no idea what you mean.
Ma’am find the 1980s science fiction movie “They Live” and watch it.
Ann Coulter says RFK Jr was promised the VP after JD has his accident. /sarc
Oh my goodness, how absurd! But my response is admittedly biased because I just can’t stand her.
Not mutually exclusive. Both are likely true.
This week all you hear about is Trump and RFK, it’s like he’s replaced Vance as the running mate. Vance better get some turbo to his engine because he has stiff competition.
Maybe he just had a bad day.
I’m a little surprised at how many people are eager to pee in the punch bowl at the first sign of a mis-step from Vance (not referring to you, Fionnagh).
The tariff issue will probably come up again. Best thing to do is figure out some way to get Sundance’s analysis in front of JDV’s eyes.
Don’t some of the handerers get some of the blame here. they are the media experts that prep Trump & Vance & others before going on these shows.
It isn’t peeing in the punchbowl to expect the man who will be the Vice President, be able to quickly and clearly articulate the CENTERPIECE policy of the President.
From memory.
Any time.
Anywhere.
If he in actuality believed it that is…
Yes, really no excuse for him not knowing this. He’d better do his homework so he doesn’t cause us to lose the election because he couldn’t be bothered to put on his big boy pants and find out everything he needs to know before meeting with the enemy.
I’m confused What didn’t he know? he sounded very matter of factly to me.
Are you going to do a better job?
Maybe you should ask President Trump to reconsider his selection and pick you.
Thank you for keeping it real. All this bashing of JD is not helpful to our cause.
No one has “bashed” him here but if you like a bashing I can deliver a solid so you know what a bashing looks like.
However, I am voting for POTUS Donald J Trump no matter what the msm promotes on tv shows few if any watch today.
‘Met the Press’ never recovered it’s audience after Tim Russert died.
Prescient you brought up Russert.
I’ve always long suspected foul play in his demise after he called some things out.
JD Pence is so busy being slobbered on by many…
smh
Milton Friedman said it best: “Keep your eye on how much the government is spending, because that is the true tax.
There is no such thing as an unbalanced federal budget. You PAY FOR IT either in the form of taxes or indirectly in the form of inflation.”
Inflation is the Transfer Tax paying for the policy of arbitrarily putting money in the pockets of people who haven’t earned it.
This is axiomatic, if it wasn’t moving from producers to parasites the creation of money wouldn’t be showing Inflation – but it always does because bureaucrats and politicians always use it to buy support – the created money is always moving in an unproductive direction.
JDV is simply too damn inexperienced to be VP. I can’t see what he brings to the ticket unless he proves to be a good attack dog on the Chamelon for the next 2 months…and he just missed his first opportunity to highlight the difference. Hopefully, he will learn fast.
Kamala Harris is the VP today even though Biden did not win the election. You do understand where the USA is today. Correct?
Are you going to separate families? No, we are going to send the whole family back. easy answer.
I dunno, I only heard the first Q & A and I thought JD got it fairly right just not with granular details such as what can be found here at CTH.
JD should prepare for all interviews and debates using the “search” tool here at CTH from now on.
the best part about JD going on MSNBC, CNN, ABC et al… people are going to starting asking amongst themselves “why won’t Kommie do an interview like this”. what’s she hiding for? and they won’t see her as a leader at all. Just a gender and a skin color. that’s hardly glass shatter worthy stuff.
Deborah’s cool, and right on the money.
Yep.
>> why won’t Kommie do an interview like this?
On the surface you ask a pretty good question, especially because Kamala knows, or should know, that after every question the NBC news
interviewerapparatchik would not preemptively summarize the answer in as inverted a manner as possible, instead she would come as close to a hot embrace with a wet kiss on the lips as seemliness would permit. No, the reason Kamala avoids interviews is that her handlers are besides themselves with fear over what wild bird-brain things Kamala will say as soon as she is talking without a script.
that was written as a question voters will be asking over time, not my question.
Thank you. Now we have a constructive comment.
While P Trump is forming a “coalition” with RFK Jr. and hopefully more to follow, his and JD’s campaign should be searching for reliable and informed sources like some CTH articles beyond the hired campaign researchers and advisors. AKA dig deep into the weeds on some subjects.
JD’s lack of knowledge on this issue displays the potential wisdom of that idea.
I think we all had the same idea at about the same time. I love this place.
There is no coalition. We do not have coalition governing.
President Trump is the rightful president; he is the only candidate and he is absolutely The Boss.
Exactly, and maybe some folks don’t know that Trump’s people keep their ‘finger on the pulse” of CTH regularly.
More pretending.
Semantics. Of course it’s not an official coalition of 2 political parties.
The term has been loosely applied to refer to a coalition of minds on some issues and that is what this is.
A coalition is defined as “An alliance, especially a temporary one, of people, factions, parties, or nations.” PT and RFK Jr. are now outspoken allies on some issues.
Exactly. Well said.
WHAT LACK OF KNOWLEDGE?
sundance–“Unfortunately, because JD Vance did not have the data to refute the NBC talking points, he missed an opportunity to set the record straight. Tariffs did not raise prices and consumers did not pay tariff rates in the first Trump administration.”
Should be renamed “Meet Pravda”
I appreciate this information but if we think the average middle class voter is going to understand this we are delusional. They don’t have the time and frankly the energy to seek out and understand this. It doesn’t matter if Mr. Vance recited this information verbatim on a Sunday talk show in the friggin summer. People are just trying to get by for gawd sake. We here at CTH get it. But average people just know gas prices are high, food costs are skyrocketing, electricity is costly. Thats all they see.
“CTH For Dummies”??
There is an appeal to ‘average’ citizens making gut decisions on the fly. Generally, a large group of people will make decisions to increase the chance of their survival. Those who happen to have a greater fund of knowledge or more powers of persuasion are free to use those talents….but those talents do not confer a right to choose for others.
Vox populi is not an meaningless term.Jefferson urged us to trust the judgement of the people….and he was clearly the brightest of the founding fathers, including most it not all who have followed.
Besides, both Trump and Kennedy are populists; Vance has a little of it. It took me 15 years of so to unlearn my education. The real batle is pride. God wins.
Populists do not advocate jailing people who say the climate change cult is a cult.
Populists do not support forced disarmament of the populace.
That word.. I do not think it means what you think it means..
y mistake. I meant to reply ro Angry Bruin.
Agree on no CTH for Dummies
Thank you, Inigo Montoya.
Graphs are easy to understand.
Also easily built to deceive. Always check where the units on the XY axis begin and their values. ALso check whether the data set covers all of the time-line data or if it stops prior to the end of the time data.
If I can understand it, anyone can. Please, VD or JD or whatever his name is knows how to speak layman, the fact that he didn’t and is playing Oops is a Red Flag.
Bingo – where the hell did all the dark clouds and concern trolls come from? This thread is full of them. Nobody gives a crap about some msm rabble rouser show and any # that JD gives will be called wrong – what good do y’all think it does to harp on this? Slow Sunday?
Thank you. Couldn’t agree more with your comment.
It’s back to school time, the buses are running, those school supplies that every kid needs has been laundered through every faction possible. Anyway, I agree, the last week of summer no one cares.
Appearing on these shows only feeds the beast. When will you figure this out?!
Not sure I would blame JD at this point. IMO, President Trump does not command the stats and factual outcomes as well as he should at this point. I blame his staff or consultants or both for not prepping/arming JD and PDJT for an upcoming interview. The other day I heard PDJT talk about 10% mortgage rates – where did that come from? He misses numerous opportunities to lay out a factual case, but comes up short. Those running the campaign need to step up bigley
So tell me how did President Trump become a billionaire without a campaign staff?
He was a real estate magnate in commercial real estate.
His billions have funded much of his politics while he’s worked for us with no pay.
I believe he said his first term cost him several billion out of his own pocket.
This is so boring. If you’re going to trash President Trump the least you could do is have some facts and give a link to “President Trump doesn’t command the stats…. ”
If you listened to him, you’d know he speak stats better than most people.
Are you Poison another another name?
“Prices dropped when Trump tariffs were put into place”
Period. Full stop. That is ALL Vance should have had to say about it. What she kept repeating was a boldfaced lie (sourced from the Tax Foundation I assume), and there is easily discoverable data now to prove it.
“Tariffs cause price increases” has been a “free trade” economic mantra for a century and it was proven false in the Trump administration. There is no automatic cause and effect relationship between the two. So, when you take a country that has gigantic margins on their produced goods because their labor costs are so low (China) and the US imposes tariffes on their goods imported into the US, China’s exports into the American market take a nosedive. China has to REDUCE export prices in a desperate attempt to preserve their market share. China reduces margins to absorb the tariff, and reduces margins even further just to keep market share up. Your $10 Chinese sneakers are now $9.50 and the US government gets hundreds of billions of dollars of cash from China.
SO – the current economic rule written on the blackboard on the first day of Econ 101 should be “Tariffs on Chinese produced goods cause their prices in the US to DROP.”
Why doesn’t Vance have all this at his fingertips? Who is prepping him?
Trump needs to read the snake poem again.
There seems to be almost as much love for JD Vance here as there is for RFK Jr.
Is this a love free zone?
Some of us are on the sidelines…watching.
Eleventy billion percent.
Hordes are acting like we have to commit to something.
I ain’t cosigning to anything but Jesus and President Trump..
I’d like to think, as I’ve said elsewhere, that Kennedy’s motivation to campaign for President Trump comes solely at this point from his passionate desire to tackle and dismantle Big Pharma and Big Ag….
I’d like to think that Vance truly has had a 180 from his previous disparagement of the man who selected him to run as his VP…
But politics is a filthy, corrupt game where trust has no home. I have no more trust to give.
President Trump has formed his collaboration and has made his choice.
And so I wait and observe…and pray.
That’s all any of us can do.
Well, it also won’t hurt to stash away some more canned peas and carrots. No sarc:)
Betsy, I believe your comment is how I feel as well.
Yes……INTENTLY watching!
Only Jesus would love his Judas’.
JD Vance should have one or more important issues to spearhead himself so he’ll be able to directly work for change like RFK Jr.
Otherwise, the new coalition will marginalize and diminish him far more than the standard outlier VP role. He’s an intelligent guy so he should be able to find one or more positive issues or areas to focus on if he becomes VP. Think Big with all others on board to make the 2nd Trump Presidency the most consequential in U.S. history given the present harm and decline caused by Biden/Harris/Pelosi etc.
THIS AIN’T NO COALITON!
NEVER WILL BE.
But you keep.pushing that and RFK has been offered NOTHING yet.
And whether Trump wins or not, Vance is on the core team, not Bobby!
This can’t be made clearly or often enough. PDJT is assembling a supporting cast. He’s the freaking boss.
👍
Reactionaries can be quite boring, dontcha think?
I think Fentanyl crisis is one of his best issues
Kristin Welker is such a DOPE. She sounds so overly dramatic with her breathless tone. She is nauseating.
I have been a bit disappointed in the choosing of Vance from the day that Trump announced Vance as his VP pick(Yes, even days before Sundance Mirror piece). Within hours I found so much questionable information about Vance and his VERY short political career. A Very short political career, that contained quite a bit of very Hateful Snide Rude comments about Trump. What was most shocking was that these were not just hateful comments made in his state of Ohio, but on national media. .
this interview has Not helped to make me feel any better about him. Maybe its Vance’s lack of political experience or ??? but to go on an interview be ripped apart on some the most pressing issues in the campaign YIKES. H3LL with all of Vance’s media I am really shocked that he did this bad. H3LL he had around 2 years with CNN, so he should have known what was coming. H3LL Sundance probably could have done a hundred times better and he is not running for office.
You know I was really hoping that over weeks that Trump’s reasons for picking Vance would come forward as Vance stepped up as an asset for Trump’s campaign showing America and Americans what a great asset he would make as VP.
Just my opinion
I never watch “Meet the Marxists” as they are driven by the anti-American leftist agenda.
Very well done Sundance, appropriately highlighting energy dominance as the key driver to all else (on an economical front). The EO’s on (literal) Days 1 & 2 of the current regime are what gutted that and, could’ve alone, accounted for the downward spiral we find ourselves in.
Of course MAGAnomics was working! I believe that’s why the Wuhan flu was unleashed on us with such government overreach fury. And why the BLM riots were allowed to destroy big chunks of our cities.
Vance should have known this, or pretended not to for his globalist backers. Ill prepared at the least.
This is also an important issue as President Trump is considering eliminating federal income tax in favor of tariffs.
What a Dream!
Tariffs Not Taxes
Back to the way things were pre – 1913.
All she did was argue with him. That wasn’t an interview, it was a hit job.
I watched the entire interview and Vance did fine in my opinion. Not the kind of detail Sundance goes into, but good enough. In fact, Welker seemed intimidated by Vance and off her game. Overall, a good performance on his part.
TRUST TRUMP!
I so. So many second-string quarterbacks, said with love for my treepers.
No body knows everything.
What I have seen of Senator Vance is he is well spoken and very knowledgeable.
We have a good line up and possibly will take the Senate and add to our numbers in the House.
Think positive. MAGA
I do.
She played this whole thing like it was a “gotcha,” like all she wanted was a concession that could be repeated in the news.
And when they talked about the tariff effect on the economy they didn’t even mention the effect on national security, if we’re getting 85-90% of our medications from China I don’t see how people can be comfortable with that.
If we’re thrust into a kinetic war with China how helpful is it that we’re closing our steel companies in favor of Chinese imports? Or with Russia, North Korea or Iran, or another ally of China?
She’s obnoxious to listen to, all the usual twisting.
I expect a Yale educated ligator to anticipate the entire ‘gotcha’ strategy, prepare for it and defeat it. His jury is the audience, not complicated here. Thank God those weren’t closing arguments.

******Sunday Talks – Robert F Kennedy Jr Discusses Trump’s Requests and Agreement for Endorsement***********
Try to post it and let me know.
Where and how????
In the only interview I saw with RFK Jr. he specifically states that there was NO discussion of cabinet or any other position. Just an agreement on areas that they have in common.
In the words of Clint Eastwood’s Character … William Money in the movie Unforgiven … (JD Vance) “… should have armed himself”.
No excuse for this situation as the ECONOMY is a primary advantage of President Trump’s per ALL the polls left-center-right.
Hopefully JD see’s fit to arm himself on ALL Key President Trump platform positions. In the words of the First Sergeant of the Cavalry Troop that I commanded … “the max effective range of an excuse is ZERO meters”.
This was not an interview.
There was NO interest in, and absolutely zero respect for, JD’s answers; NBC merely used the occasion to grade how JD conformed to their leftist ideology, and to essentially repudiate him every time he missed their mark.
Nailed it. I am amused at how many Treepers are near the hair – on – fire stage with this attempt at a hit job. Who other than Swamp denizens and hardcore political wonks pay rapt attention to what happens on the Sunday morning talk shows, especially in late summer? BTW… In this vale of toil and sin… 😁
She is just a bitch !
And a smug one…
Don’t need to convince us, we already know, JD needed to inform NBC viewers and he didn’t. RINO much?
Question: What people watched this interview/hit job live other than the Swamp denizens and hardcore political wonks? Answer: Very few.
G-d Bless you, SD. Keep making these posts available. Home schooling is happening.
I’m no fan of RedState and Mike Miller in particular, but he felt Vance destroyed Welker in that NBC interview: https://redstate.com/mike_miller/2024/08/25/watch-jd-vance-wrecks-nbc-simp-who-was-stupid-enough-to-challenge-him-on-trumps-economic-record-n2178509
Some people here need to get a portion of their news analysis outside of CTH.
Yeah.. right.
I haven’t seen anyone be as clear as the explanation and evidence that Sundance provided.
More people than Vance, maybe even PDJT, need to get clear about the price impact that the tariffs actually had.
I mean, I say it here regularly, I cannot fathom people in the orbit of these campaigns not reading SD commentary. Here is a perfect example of a miss. SD provides the data, the images, the very explanations. As DJT would, ‘no excuses.’
After reading the first paragraph, my comment is, “Well, fuuuuu JD.”
Costly miss here by JDV. Cannot afford another. No explanations for this only excuses. He’s in the super bowl and just dropped a wide open pass in the end zone. Frustrating.
Meet The Press?
Who watches?
People have tuned out!
President Trump will win Again!
My point I made to other posters.
I’d like to see that Table A BLS chart for 2020, 2021,2022,2023.
Alongside the 2019 chart
JD will get an ass chewing from the boss.
Vance did fine. He wasn’t going to be allowed to develop lines of reasoning with this stooge and did an effective job of dissolving the sophomoric arguments presented. This was a positive to what few undecideds watched.
On the tariff issue, there is a vulnerability in Trump’s arguments that needs to be considered and resolved. I know personally two American manufacturing concerns that received bills from the US government and were required to send checks for the tariff on goods they imported. For one of them, it was particularly painful. I suspect that Trump never knew what the process of collecting the tariffs entailed.
One of the companies imported parts supporting US production and assembly. The tariff would have been lower had they imported the product as finished goods.
This is not a criticism of the policy, just an acknowledgement that improved implementation would help. We no longer use either of these suppliers ourselves, having adopted European sources because of higher quality and service. In effect, exactly what Trump needed to happen.
The Russian situation has denied many American concerns access to an excellent plywood we really need back. I’d like to say more, but I won’t yet.
However, I would love to see legislation and policy to prevent US producers from being bought under “hostile” circumstances and looted of capital and capacity for the benefit of our European alleged friends. Other than the slave labor, I’m sure that the Europeans are more predatory than the Chinese. I offer as examples Cirrus and Chrysler. Chrysler is in grave peril.
Chrysler screwed up by discontinuing the muscle cars. The Hellcat motor was their best move since the old muscle cars!
Agree, but the decision was forced on them by they Biden administration. Are you aware of the billions Chrysler is paying to Tesla every year for carbon credits? It’s not survivable. STLA is looting the US bank account to keep Europe open to the point that the US operation is flat out of operating capital. A shut down this fall is not out of the question.
The muscle cars on deck will be fine, if the doors can be kept open long enough to sell them. The hemi can be back as soon as 1/21/25, it’s still around.
Ford just came out with a new Hellcat destroying Mustang. Their new Predator V8 ain’t going anywhere which may be them looking forward, Lord Willing, to another Trump Administration..
I have visions of Richard Petty’s Plymouth Superbird (426 cu. in. Hemi) dancing in my head. 😊
Trump should hire Sundance to help couch Vance so he does NOT blow it anymore.
Excellent.
Well, today it was more like George Clooney.
What is she, a prosecutor?
He should have thrown at her the thousands of children missing.
Another excellent point. It would have been telling indeed to see her reaction to that.
He tried to bring it up, she talked over him. He needs to learn to NEVER let a reporter state a falsehood and then rush on without giving him the opportunity to respond. No, just, no.
”You don’t get to squeeze your narrative into this interview without my having any chance to correct it.”
When she interviewed rubio he adamantly insisted on destroying her false premises before answering her questions.
I think Vance would benefit from watching how Rubio handled her.
And I think Vance is a quick learner and has improved tremendously since he was nominated. He will learn from this
Interestingly, California has levied tariffs on imported goods (in violation of the Constitution) for decades, and not a peep out of anyone.
CBP gives import entry data to the Calif. Franchise Tax Board, which then demands payment of a use tax. But the demand comes from the Tax Board’s customs department. Yes, Calif has a customs department.
Damn..
I love how she says: “now the estimates might vary” in an insignificant, off-handed way about the 4K tax hike. I would have stopped her right there. You can bet she didn’t have a source to quote from, either. I thought JD did well. Perfect is the enemy of good, right?
Reading these comments is discouraging. I think Senator Vance is doing a wonderful job both substantively and with keeping a very composed and professional but warm demeanor amongst the snakes that he’s dealing with on all the shows. I have watched many of his outings, and this may not have been his sharpest showing, but for the most part, he did an exemplary job as a sitting Senator, lawyer, businessman and author. There is a warm comfortable feeling between him and Trump when they’re together and with Trump’s family. He’s fun and young and caring and honorable. Those are a priceless gifts to be able to bring all that. I don’t understand why we can’t appreciate and value of a full team with everyone supporting everyone when the stakes are so high.
It’s not that they are tired of winning, they just don’t see it when looking right at it.
Ma’am, it shouldn’t be that difficult to lay waste to these oatmeal- for -brains policies from the Death Cult..
.
Such a great analysis of the tariff issue. Thank you for the re-do!
