SUSAN CRABTREE – “During a Donald Trump visit to North Carolina yesterday, a woman Secret Service special agent abandoned her post to breastfeed with no permission/warning to the event site agent, according to three sources in the Secret Service community.
Shortly before Trump’s motorcade arrival — I’m told five minutes beforehand — the site agent was getting ready for the arrival. (The site agent is the person in charge of the entire event’s security.)
The site agent went to do one final sweep of the walking route and found the agent breast-feeding her child in a room that is supposed to be set aside for important Secret Service official work, i.e. a potential emergency related to the president.
A working agent on duty cannot bring a child to a protective assignment. The woman was out of the Atlanta Field Office. The woman agent was in the room with two other family members.
The agent and her family members bypassed the Uniformed Division checkpoint and were escorted by an unpinned event staff into the room to breastfeed, the sources said. Unpinned means they have not been cleared by the Secret Service to be there.
When contacted about the incident, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the incident did not have an impact on the event. and it’s under review.
“All employees of the U.S. Secret Service are held to the highest standards,” he said. “While there was no impact to the North Carolina event, the specifics of this incident are being examined. Given this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further.” (source)

One wishes that a “collapse” of an organization such as this would be more like the “collapse” of a building in which nothing is left standing. I’m a supporter of breastfeeding. I nursed all my babies. So have my daughters. Not sure how old the child was, but they have really efficient breast pumps now and my daughters pumped milk and had bottles filled even before they needed to return to work. Came in handy for times when it was really inconvenient or impossible to breastfeed. Like if they were in the middle of a critical work assignment for example. You can even freeze it. And they have coolers you can take to work with you too.
Then maybe she should have left her child home with pumped breast milk instead of carrying that child to an event where she was entrusted to protect a Presidential nominee come hell or high-water, instead of abandoning her post.

When I worked in law enforcement I had a partner who breastfed all of her three children.
She carried a pump and we would occasionally stop somewhere with a ladies room, so she could do what she needed to do.

It’s an attitude thing. I am a retired (female) airline pilot. I remember when 67 out of 85 chief pilots told you to your face that they didn’t hire women, and the rest didn’t say it but didn’t do it. It was a tough world and insanely difficult to get a chance to fly at a decent place. All that has changed. I cringed at the new generation of female pilots demanding the right to have fancy hairdos at work and more revealing uniforms. Why the heck do you need a v-cut shirt on the flight deck and what’s the matter with the same conservative hairstyle at work anyway ? It’s flying an airplane not a fashion show !
There is one young female pilot I admire very much. She has a family and breasfeeds, leaving the bottles of fresh milk at a special repository which stores them at exactly the correct temperature (apparently there is a science to this) so she can go away to fly a long trip without worrying. Her husband (he works weird shifts too) or Mom retrieves a daily supply while she is gone. If she oversupplies one week, the excess is available to another mother who might be experiencing a shortage. Sounds pretty darn innovative, practical, and reasonable to me.
Another female pilot insisted on bringing breast-pumping materials to class for ground school and wanted the airline to adjust the simulator schedules to accommodate her breast-feeding timing. They declined. Another female pilot complained that there was not a private place for her to pump on board the airplane in the cockpit, to give her more privacy from the sight of the other pilot while she breast-pumped at the controls. She simply could not understand the concern of other people – such as myself – that if that once-in-a-career emergency came along, I would not appreciate my life being endangered because the pilot at the controls was not immediately available to do the Emergency Action Items — a requirement of aircraft and crew certification.
Good thing I retired when I did because the airlines and unions are seriously working on making those adjustments to allow new mothers to breast pump on the airplane.
There are options. It takes a certain attitude to seek them out, create them, and implement them.

It’s nowhere near the same; however, it details why policy are in place and the impact of not following them to a T. There’s a reason why the Secret Service is assigned to a protectee — it’s in our national interest, theoretically anyway.
On 9/11, the reason why so many FDNY members died was failure to follow SOP’s: self dispatching, going into the buildings without being assigned, etc.
I can attest to this. I worked for over 20 years in a busy fire department and was a company officer for my last 10 years. People go rogue and compromise command and control.
This agent probably thought she was doing nothing wrong (she was vetted and can vouch for her family). The FDNY members on 9/11 thought they were doing nothing wrong: big fire, more people. However, more people died and more fire apparatus were destroyed than necessary due directly to the failure to following command and control measures (dispatching, SOP’s, etc) — I’ll reply to myself in a moment with the interview of an FDNY Battalion Chief that summarizes this viewpoint.
I agree with Sundance’s conclusion. The mere fact this happened, means the slippery slope has made it this far where the agent felt comfortable doing this and didn’t think anything of it. Your right to breast feed (which is how children should be fed) doesn’t exist in a USSS protection detail, period.

She violated policy and procedures placing the protectee in danger, she thought she was doing nothing wrong. She did this for personal reasons.
A lot of FDNY members, thinking they were “helping” or doing the right thing (again for personnel reasons, no one knew it was a terror attack they all wanted to go to the fire of a career), disregarded policy and procedures by self-dispatching while off-duty and making entry into the towers while not assigned/directly ordered. These actions needlessly killed a lot of FDNY members that harmed their families.
I have no ill feelings towards them, but I’ve seen the same decisions first hand. Albeit without the same degree of catastrophic outcome. It’s a culture within the organization that allows it to happen by not disciplining prior “infractions”.
Sundance’s conclusion the organization has collapsed is spot on. The agent felt comfortable taking the actions she did, the culture allowed it. The USSS has become political when their mission is as apolitical as one can get in the federal government: protect the protectee, period.
At the very least 9-11 was allowed to happen. Building 7 imploded with the use of explosives and nothing hit it. At the time the CIA, FBI, And several other alphabet agencies were housed in the building all the records were blown up. No Debris trail was left at the pentagon nothing nada not one aircraft part was within 10 miles of it. Same with the Pennsylvania crash. A smoking hole the hole was there prior to the event.

My point is, both “surrogates” for POTUS requiring higher security than Trump were speaking at closed, relatively small events in secure venues with limited entry points on the same date at about the same time in close proximity to a Trump event. Did the FLOTUS’ and Harris’ events hog local Secret Service branch and PD assets leaving Trump exposed? Is it common for both to speak at such minor events at the same time and in close proximity to a Trump rallies, the J13 rally being his last outdoor rally prior to his nomination and, by virtue of that nomination, then becoming a higher priority Secret Service protectee?

PITTSBURGH — 11 Investigates has learned exclusively that two Pittsburgh police motorcycle officers who were injured during the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally over the weekend have been removed from the cycle unit.
Sources told 11 Investigates the bureau claimed they never got permission to assist Trump.
The motorcycle supervisors claim they did get permission, according to sources.
And sources also said there were also concerns that some of those officers should have been available to help with the First Lady’s visit to Pittsburgh at the same time.
Video from CBS News shows those Pittsburgh officers, just minutes after they were hit with debris, in the stands helping some of the injured, even carrying one to safety.
Of course, exactly what happened that day even AT the assassination attempt site isn’t even known yet!
I didn’t think I could be shocked anymore by the raw incompetence of government agencies, but just Holy Cannoli Batman!!
That this woman actually showed up to this assignment with family members….and her baby is simply gob-smacking!!
And then she just excuses herself from her assignment to breast feed the kid!!!
She should be fired. And her immediate supervisor should be fired. Without delay.
