Independent party dwarfs Dems for a reason. Forcing an unlikeable candidate down people’s throats isn’t what it used to be.
There is no such thing as the “Independant Party”.
No State or Natl organisation, no platform, no slates of candidates and most importantly, NO political power it can use to influence public policy.
If there WERE an “Independant Party” lets look at who would represent it; Kyrsten Synema, Bernie Sanders, Joe Manchin and Angus King.
“Independant” as a name for what are actually people registered as “unaffiliated with any party” was a name promoted by a Republican party strategist, as the R party had its own “walk-away movement” post Reagan as more and more of the base got disgusted with the RINO element running the party.
The Party did NOT want this element breaking off and forming a functional Political party that could threaten the R party’s position as the conservative alternative (think Tea Party).

My theory is that independents are former Democrats who got pissed because they know the Demonic party has lied to them on a number of subjects repeatedly. Sadly, about 1/3 will not vote with Republicans until they finally figure out that the Demonic party has lied to them about everything repeatedly. The savior for the 2024 election will likely be the 10 to 20 million non-voters who come out in force to vote for Trump in their first election ever.
I think most “independent” voters are people who want to virtue signal open mindedness, but the truth is they’re partisan and just as biased as everyone else. They just don’t want to admit it. “I vote for the man not the party.”
Heck – I could call myself an independent voter. If MAGA was a Democrat faction and Trump the Dem nominee running against Nikki Hayley in 2024 I would be a Dem. But I’ll also admit as a longtime Republican voter I would be very susceptible to believing every bad thing about him and very skeptical of criticism about Hayley.
The difference would be Trump’s record as president. He did what he said he would do about trade and securing the border. Even my mom, a lifelong Democrat, voted for Reagan in 1984.
In Wisconsin, you can register as an independent and still vote for the primary of your choice.
My husband and I are independent. We vote in the primaries. We voted for Trump in 2016, 2020, and will do so again. My husband knocked on doors and I was labeled a “Russian bot” online for my support. We almost always vote Republican, but the party here is so vile we maintain our independence and make them work for our votes.
Independents win elections, we are the silent majority. The Dems are getting crazier and crazier, many independents will vote Trump or not at all.
