When more people are getting sports scholarships over academic ones, it’s time to admit colleges are not producing scholarship anymore.

I did not watch, I’ve found the opening ceremony presentations getting progressively worse (no pun intended). I had a sibling make the Olympic games in Australia in 2000 and we got tickets to all the events in which they were competing. The only difficulty we had was to get there from all over the USA. I was an uplifting experience at that time, every American I met was extremely happy to be there and very patriotic, very happy to cheer for their country no matter the sport. The Australian people we met were very friendly and supportive, and they loved their Victoria Bitters no end and were on cloud nine hosting the Olympics.
I did not recognize that country during Covid, the seemingly freedom loving Australians were put under house arrest with barely a whimper, took an experimental DNA treatment and wore useless face coverings everywhere. It was heartbreaking and I don’t think they have recovered.
France as always been to me pompous and preening, so it does not seem too surprising that they gave the job of putting their country in a good light to a sociopathic pedophile who evidently worships the devil.
I read that since our countries throughout the world have had unfettered migration , the Olympics no longer feels like one nation competing against another. I agree. I noticed years ago that Africans were playing on Italian soccer teams. I know it’s to win but it is no longer one “nation”against each other. Even sadder is that there were some lovely and worthy moments mixed in. Watching the parade of nations, with the excited athletes — the best in the world — waving flags from their boats with such joy and excitement. (I always get chills watching our big USA delegation toward the end — crazy, rowdy, happy kids, with so much talent and promise.) Watching Celine Dion in a classy white Dior gown, mustering the strength from a horrid disease to give the performance of her life. Watching the tributes to French culture — from the craftsmen of Louis Vuitton, to the craftsmen who are rebuilding Notre Dame.
Still, those horrible bacchanal scenes do not define all of Paris or the French people. There is still a remnant of believers that is growing, and it’s a lovely story. I have been to some really awesome churches there. You won’t see them highlighted by the media, any more than you will see the media highlight the quiet kind deeds that President Trump has done. I imagine this particular Olympic opening ceremony was a direct result of the snap election. They probably had 2 ready to go. I guess there was another reason Macron called for the snap election.
As in all parts of it could have easily had different participants with the same staging. Last supper. Easy to have 2 sets of participants. The horse could have easily had a more noble uplifting look and rider.
If they wanted to smite a religion, then why not keep with the theme? This is at the Olympics, after all. Wouldn’t it have been more appropriate to have these clowns dressed in Olympic themed costumes? If the want to mock a god, then why not Zeus? Shouldn’t they be dressed as Dionysus, or Heracles, or Hermes, or Artemis, or Apollo? With all this cross dressing, gender bending, trans this ‘n that going on, I would think one of them could a least have had the decency to dress as Helen of Troy, because, well, Paris……….

It was bad enough when I learned as a teenager what happened in the village when athletes weren’t competing. I still wanted to support and shut my eyes to their behavior as “consenting adults celebrating.”
As I have aged and have children, one of whom wants to become an olympic athlete, I’m having a harder time ignoring reality. The opening ceremony was nothing short of demonic and I had to sit my children down and have a serious conversation about why we cannot watch any of it anymore.
