Dems will undoubtedly use JD Vance’s past negative Trump comments in ads but I think it’s actually kind of a selling point for 2024.
Lots of people can related to being trepidatious about the bull in a China shop from NY (Trump) but came to love him or at least miss his policies. JD is example #1 that you don’t need to be perfect to be MAGA and admit you were wrong.
JD has proven in the Senate that he fights for the people and that he’s loyal to the Trump agenda of Making America Great.
It also shows that Trump isn’t a bitter, grudge holder. He saw JD’s heart and trusts him. There’s a mercy in that that’s appealing to average people (especially women). I think it’s going to actually make Dems look really bad to criticize that.

If appealed to the Supremes I think the squishies would also deny the appeal on those procedural grounds because it lets them completely sidestep having to actually rule on the constitutional aspects of the case.
They could also extend it to the DC case and tie the failed lawfare efforts up into a neat little package that resolves the present on procedural grounds without needing to stick their neck out on a constitutional issue.

I notice the obtuseness of MSM commentary. Talking about the history of appointing Special Counsel from outside the government, but completely glossing over the fact that jack Smith has never been a US Attorney or confirmed by Congress to any other public office. That’s the real issue here.
I have only skimmed through Judge Cannon’s opinions, but one thing seems obvious – she is writes with one eye on the court of appeals (and SCOTUS). Her opinions are solidly cited, so reviewing courts will have to go through the precedents on which she relies and distinguish them. She also addresses the authorities cited by Smith, and explains why they are inapplicable.
Retired Magistrate here: Even as a Magistrate I always wrote with an eye on the Court of Appeals because a number of my decisions ended up there. Of course part of that is making a good record with the thought that the decision will go to the Court of Appeals. Thankfully, I was affirmed more times than overruled.

The police sniper on the roof reporting that he had the man, with a gun, in his sights for three minutes but was denied permission to shoot is especially damning. That, and the failure to get the President off the stage when the situation developed. I was at a Trump rally in 2016 where secret service took him off stage in response to a threat in the crowd, but Trump returned a few minutes later when the all clear was given.

This reminds me of story from the Korean War, which was taught at The Basic School as a warning to officers “never take anything for granted, check it out yourself and verify.”
A Marine battalion was assigned a sector. The deployment of units was such that flank security would be the responsibility of an adjoining Army battalion, the Marines only need deploy to cover the forward avenues of approach.
After giving orders to his battalion, the commander went to the Army position to make liaison with the adjacent unit. There wasn’t one. Apparently, the Army unit had set up elsewhere leaving the Marine battalion’s flank exposed.
The Marine commander immediately re-deployed his Marines to secure their own flank. A good thing he did – that night they were attacked, from the flank, and repulsed the enemy. Had he merely trusted “the Army is there” without verifying it his battalion would have been destroyed.
SS should never trust that local law enforcement would do an adequate job of securing the building. Heck – even if they didn’t put men on the roof, they could have set up positions to observe the building from the ground. Spectators in the trees saw the assassin climbing to the roof, no reason why police officers couldn’t be there as well.
The Secret Service failed to adequately supervise local law enforcement.

Thanks for that and it’s not at all uncommon, but can be easily compensated for by anyone who knows what the F they’re doing if more sophisticated solutions aren’t available by having at least one person with handhelds from all systems in use with their chargers in a place with great reception (ex., outdoors in a tent) to act as a human inter-system interface and protoplasmic repeater.
Ideally, the same would be in pre-established comms centers for ALL agencies involved with PRIORITIZATION of lead responsibility so they wouldn’t walk all over each other when they all tried to relay comms simultaneously.
But, again, this takes planning by people who actually know what the F they’re doing.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was spotted on the roof 26 minutes before the shooting occurred.
The FBI has confirmed that Crooks was seen by law enforcement members from the Allegheny County Police Department on the roof of a building with a clear sightline to the former president.
Despite being alerted to his presence, authorities failed to confront him, allowing him to remain hidden for nearly 30 minutes before he opened fire on Trump and the crowd.
The shocking new allegations have raised questions about how Crooks was able to evade detection and carry out the attack, which left Trump wounded and a member of the crowd dead. A sniper even took a picture of the suspect with a rangefinder and radioed to the command post before the Trump assassination attempt, CBS reports. Crooks was on local police and Secret Service’s radar for nearly a half hour before the shooting attempt, but he kept “disappearing” before he climbed on the roof. “Crooks disappeared again and then came back a THIRD time with a backpack,” CBS reported. “The snipers called in with information that he had a backpack and said he was walking towards the back of the building.”
It gets crazier. The New York Post reports local police were INSIDE the building that Thomas Crooks climbed on top of. The building was carved out of the Secret Service security perimeter and delegated to local police despite it being a “well-known high-priority vulnerability.”
Before the shooting, a police officer actually confronted Crooks, who had a rifle. The police officer scrambled back down the ladder, allowing the shooter to fire at least five rounds at the former president.
No one had warned Trump.

I think this nails it.
I am of the opinion that the guy was on SSRI drugs given to him by his reportedly nutty “therapist” parents, was radicalized by media and the public school system, evidenced by the video of him on campus calling to “slash the throats of all Republicans”, registered (R) to vote in 2022 Pennsylvania primary to try to stop Trump which was the strategy that many elected Dems were suggesting voters do, and considering the evidently incompetent Secret Service and its lack of coordination with local law enforcement, was able to climb onto a nearby roof and take shots at Trump.
The banality of evil.
A complex system (SS and Local LE working in tandem), plus failure to think/incompetence (local LE not engaging, SS not giving green light, etc..), and nefarious scheming (Crooks) combined to produce this event.
I say this knowing full-well that the US government is entirely willing and able to assassinate a US candidate and a US president, and did both in the 60s.
But this was not that.
The scary thing is, there are thousands more of these young drugged up radicalized psychos just like Crooks.
And yet our SS is still completely incapable of really protecting anyone, thanks to DEI.
I’m sick and tired when media and ‘conservative’ media are saying that the SS is incompetent.
This was an IC assassination hit on President Trump.

Also the short women. The president was already shot in the head before those women had a part in the action. There were tall men all around, yet the president got shot.
The reason he got shot was because a lot of people did not do their jobs. Why not?
If it is true that the people working that day were not the regulars, could it be because the regulars would have noticed faster if something out of the ordinary were going on?
Ok, so how did they do it? The problem with your theory is Crooks. There is literally video of him shooting at Trump.

Ill believe that if its properly presented. I just finished reading The Unspeakable by James Douglass on the JFK assassination. If you havent read it, you should get it ASAP. There is no doubt the CIA killed JFK.

Trajectory looks too horizontal for a rooftop origin.
Assuming 20′ altitude difference and 450′ horizontal distance, the angle would be be ~2.5 deg. This does not account for bullet velocity vector drop or camera position.

This article is an example of the lousy inaccurate news we get. Look at that ladder and tell me it’s a 5′ ladder. Also reported that there is no social media history of him acting political etc. There’s a video of him yelling and screaming at a republican registration table in a public space. If I saw it, it’s not hard to find. And this is a so called conservative site. They are all just lazy and make stuff up.
He had a Home Depot receipt for a ladder in his pocket. An image I saw of a ladder to the roof was behind a large evergreen tree and looked like it was one attached to the building and intended to provide routine roof access.
He may have used the 5′ ladder to help climb the ac units, that he reportedly used to get on the roof.

It’s sure not 5′ as CNN reported. I would estimate it’s a 10′ ladder that would need a roof rack on a car to haul. Some reporters are so stupid. Maybe they grew up in an apartment or something and have never used a ladder or even have a clue that a 5′ ladder will NOT get anyone on a roof.
So, they must have pulled the video of someone purchasing a ladder by now.
TGP does a lot of great stuff, especially covering the J6 prisoners, and are extremely supportive of MAGA and DJT.
But yes: they’re extremely sloppy, every article is full of all possible types of errors, many of the headlines are classic clickbait, their commenters are not an insightful or particularly intelligent bunch and not a family (unlike CTH or AoSHQ), and every article mentions TGP itself, several times.

Selection of Secret Service agents and leadership of that department should be based upon the ability to “serve with advantage.”
In November of 1775 – while Boston was under siege – the Continental Congress authorized what eventually became the USMC:
Resolved, That two Battalions of marines be raised, consisting of one Colonel, two Lieutenant Colonels, two Majors, and other officers as usual in other regiments; and that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken, that no persons be appointed to office, or enlisted into said Battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea when required (underling supplied for emphasis)
We have foolishly allowed DEI to prevail over the ability to serve with advantage. This applies to USSS Director Cheatle and too many of the agents committed to the protection of Donald Trump. The mission is to protect him and not to provide a boondoggle.
Hopefully these silly DEI priorities will be scrapped beginng Jan. 20, 2025 and we can re-dedicate public service to what is required to perform the essential function.
As pointed out by Dan Bongino, no short people assigned to shield a very tall person like Trump. My comment: if females, Amazons only.
I was thinking of the required attitude or passion for the job. Kat Timpf comes to mind; she seems to be intelligent and conservative-minded, but at 100 lbs. she is not much of a shield and is probably not suited to wrestling an attacker to the ground. (Timpf may be more qualified than Cheatle to be the Director which is a more administrative and leadership role. )
My disappointment (and that’s being kind) with the current Director is based on her reaction to this entire matter, and her very questionable staffing decisions with respect to the Trump rally.
Video of a female USSS agent at the scene of the Butler rally shows her cowering and crouching immediately after the gunfire. Some of the responding USSS agents did not appear to serve with advantage, and may have been a hinderence. Cheatle sent the B team to Butler. It is difficult to escape the conclusion that her intent was malevolent.
Cheatle’s qualification seems be be that the good Jill with the meaningless academic degree, likes her and that she is a woman. We’re also reading, now, that Cheatle committed the A Team to a Jill campaign event.
When body shielding a very tall POTUS, agent size is requirement #2 since at that point, they’re simply acting as a shield. The very short female exposed Trump’s head for significant intervals. Attitude and abilities which include courage is #1.
