Professor Maher from Montana State Univ is an audio forensics expert who stated that based on the sounds of the shots, they came from 330 to 390 yards away. But the shooter was only 130 yards away. Further, while he said the first three shots came from the same firearm there may have been another firearm used on other shots based on audio forensics. I read that report too. I had suggested congressional investigators sit in on the interviews of the public employees present at Butler, at least for the sake of transparency. This is not only a good article by Vance, it’s one of the best examples I’ve seen in a long, long time showing how important critical, deep thinking is in our life journey. It’s not just the rather long article itself that impresses me, nor is it the opinions and choices Vance has made. His ability to put a long, complex process, to model being willing to step outside our most deeply held comfort zones, to examine our own strengths and weaknesses, who we are and where we come from, and many other ideas, this should be a model for how we examine things.
Several points to make here, in consideration of whether you want to dive into this. First, the purpose of the article is supposed to be his journey to becoming Catholic. In actuality, I find that to be quite a small part of this story, and I would argue, Catholic though I am, not the most important nor the best part.
Second, there’s some interesting stuff in here, like how he became acquainted with Peter Thiel.
J.D. Vance was not even on my list of hopes for VP. Unlike a lot of you, I think it is quite an important choice, and one that will have a huge bearing on where we go post Trump second term. I am unapologetically a one issue voter, in that I will never support anyone who outright supports or facilitates abortion. Therefore, I am extremely disturbed that Vance apparently supports access to the abortion pill. I have not gone really deep into that yet, but if he actually has that position, in my opinion, it certainly calls into question his choice to be Catholic, and therefore the depth of his integrity on such a vital choice.
Nevertheless, I remind myself how different I am now from the day I was baptized.

Trump supports access to the abortion pill too. But their opinions on the issue are irrelevant. After the SCOTUS ruling, the decisions lie with the states, not the Federal. That’s where their opinions are important, the ones who make the decisions.
The GOP platform supports access to birth control. There is an abortion pill which is different, but I am not positive that is what the Platform supports.
That addressed his general position. I’m specifically talking about what he said about the abortion pill. I know Trump’s position, and I don’t consider it irrelevant at all. But, in my comment, last paragraph, I am specifically addressing Vance’s choice to convert to Catholicism. Trump has made no such choice, so my comment has nothing to do with him.

I’m interested in seeing the pro-life movement pivot their attention from the Federal level to the state level, which is why I was asking questions like I did.
My impression is that they’re all still in shock over the SCOTUS ruling.
I think that, I hope that, most pro life voters are like me. What I mean when I say I’m a one issue voter is that I will never vote for anyone who supports and works toward legal abortion. What that means in a practical way to me is that I’d never vote Democrat, even if there was one stalwart true opponent of abortion running on that ticket. I’d consider them to have split loyalties at best, and be dishonest at worst.
By the same token, I am not so unreasonable that I won’t vote for the Conservative who offers the best hope of protecting the unborn. I am not going to refuse to vote because I dislike the degrees of difference in the pro life position.
Catholics I put into a different category altogether. There is never, ever any acceptable reason for a Catholic to in any way support even the most minute pro abortion position. Actually, I think most Christians of any denomination probably agree with that statement.
I always thought that was strange, myself, that these elected officials make a point that they are Catholic but then support abortion.
I don’t like to judge people on their level of faith as a general rule, as who knows what is in someone’s heart, but still?

Never mind that claiming someone, if elected, will end our Republic is moral justification for any act taken to prevent it, including violent acts. It stops just short of the line of advocating assassination but it certainly does morally justify it, assuming the speaker really believes it. Thus the obvious problem — if you stop those characterizations (and call for others to do so) were you lying then or are you lying now?

It’s not every day that someone violently opposed to a candidate hands them an opportunity to show, under stress, the response that an enemy of the nation will get if they try to give us a bloody nose or worse and we’re still able to respond NO MATTER WHO IT IS THAT DOES IT. When that sort of thing happens sometimes the person wounded does cower under the desk, displaying weakness — and thus at best gets sympathy. But that’s not what happened this time — at all. Trump didn’t let them carry him out or low-crawl away like a scared rat. Nope; instead you got the equivalent of a one-finger salute to anyone who would pull that s***.
Trump’s response is exactly what 99% of the population thinks the response to that sort of event should be too and, in my opinion, that majority position is exactly correct.
I’m no fan of Trump as everyone who’s read this column for any length of time knows. But even I, in that instant, recognized that if the flag goes up this nation has to have a President who, even if bloodied and bleeding, will rise off the floor and say **** YOU to whoever did it, — and then go execute whatever has to be done.

Jack Smith’s appointment ruled unconstitutional and thus the indictment against Trump dismissed.
Note that Merrick Garland failed to answer on what authority under the Constitution said appointment was made before Congress. An act undertaken without authority, and Garland cited none, is not only void it’s malicious by definition.
There’s no law broken “per se” when you’re wrong but when you can’t point to the specific Statute or Constitutional basis on which you took an action then if said action is struck as unconstitutional that act was undertaken with actual malice as you refused to even put forward a theory upon which your act was appropriate and legal.
This is just another in a long line of acts of this general character that are blatantly unconstitutional and most of them go unchallenged because they either create huge classes of beneficiaries (e.g. DACA) and thus become politically very difficult to reverse even though they’re illegal or they create a nearly-impossible economic burden to obtain review and relief although blatantly unconstitutional (e.g. the attempted use of SarBox against the Jan 6 defendants.)
Both have now gone up in smoke but the question remains what deterrent effects now exists, and will exist in the future, to prevent a second or subsequent abuse? That question requires an answer.

Here’s the official story so far: a random 20 year old acting completely alone walked within 150 yards of a presidential campaign rally with a rifle, climbed onto a rooftop in full view of Secret Service snipers, set up his shot and fired without anyone intervening and with no help from anyone. This 20 year old is also so politically radical as to attempt an assassination and yet not radical enough to have ever posted any political writings or commentary on any social media site ever in his life. He also wrote no manifesto and left behind no indication about why he did it. His last and only political act, before attempting to kill the Republican candidate, was to register as a Republican. You must believe this and ask no questions about it or else you are a conspiracy theorist. And one thing we know about assassination attempts is that there’s never any conspiring involved.
