Maybe my distance numbers are off, but in 1970 basic training they told me the 5.56mm M-16 round has a 55 gr bullet and a muzzle velocity of 3280 feet per second. I remember it like it was yesterday. And today, they’re saying the shooter was 412 feet from President Trump. My simple math 412 / 3280 is .125 second, roughly an eighth of a second.
A meaningless difference as I am fully in agreement that the Hand of God was protecting President Trump and caused the bullet to miss a fatal shot. So many failures yesterday on so many levels.
I surely hope that President Trump, a warrior we don’t deserve, will continue to be the leader we need and his election is now a 100% certainty.
Muzzle velocity is usually measured 10-20 feet down range from the muzzle, just far enough so the chronograph is not disturbed by the muzzle blast. At 412 feet, a 55grain bullet will be traveling at a much slower speed, maybe at only half of the muzzle speed. There is also bullet drop at that range but it depends on the ballistic coefficient of the bullet used. A competent reloading manual can give a full table of calculations based on those factors, and can almost always be used for a generally accurate estimate of speed. But the gun has rifling in the barrel and the barrel length can also affect down range velocities, accuracy, and bullet drop. Ballistics is not an accurate science, because we still don’t understand the exact affect of all of the dynamics involved. But muzzle velocity is much faster than down range velocity and both must be considered.
Nor do we get any exact measurements for primer consistency, bullet weight, bullet consistency, case volume and length, bullet seating depth, primer seating, case wall shape and thickness, and powder volumes. Don’t get me started on powder because there are a myriad of ways to miss the powder volume by a few granules. That is why target shooters spend a lot of time at the loading bench because the goal is a box full of finished rounds that are as close to equivalent as is actually possible in the loading process. Today’s factory ammo is almost as good as it gets these days, but only practice at the range will tell you what it will do in your gun. My point is that only God knows exactly where a gun shot will go.
So we don’t know exactly how fast that bullet got to Trump’s ear. My dad taught me that we never point even an unloaded gun in the direction of another human being and that is what made that 20 year old into a dangerous criminal yesterday. I am so angry I am sending Trump some more of my money for his campaign. I watched that heinous crime on TV and I saw the hand of our Maker protecting Donald Trump.
I am pretty sure God wants to use Donald Trump to change our world for the better. Though He hasn’t said a word to me, I have learned that He will let me see what He can change and this failed assassination did that for me. I thank God for saving Donald Trump. I think Trump got a glimpse of God right there and he will be asking God to help him with all of his decisions as our next President.
This agrees with my math, but admittedly doesn’t account for deceleration over distance. Since there’s not that much distance, let’s call it 0.13 seconds. Let’s also note that this bullet remained supersonic until it struck the fireman, which means that this bullet struck Trump and came to rest in the fireman before anyone heard the shot. Trump turned his head, and based on flight time, he did it at the same instant that the shooter broke the sear.
The top illustration (Dan Scavino, Jr.) of where the bullet would have gone had Pres. Trump not turned his head looks like the same area (right sideburn entry & back of the head exit) that some of the doctors & other experts say Pres. Kennedy was hit 11/22/63.
Kennedy’s head wound was from front to back where the bullet entered the front right side of his head just above the temple and just in front of the hair line. Exiting the back right side of his head leaving a gaping hole that was of course catastrophic.
Actually Oswald did not fire a shot that day and was not on the 6th floor when the shots or shot happened. Four witnesses would have testified to the fact Oswald was seen in the 2nd floor kitchen just before and right after the shooting. THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO TESTIFY TO THE WARREN COMMISSION. When you control the investigation you control the outcome.

Let’s think what would the media landscape be like if the ex- President shot had been Obama?
How many weeks of “fiery, but peaceful protests” and willing would placate the left?

Trump said something about going off script. Asked the audience if we minded, because the teleprompters were boring.
He asked his team if they had his immigration graphic that he liked so much.
Once it was up there he turned his head to look.
When the shots rang out I could hear them crack over our position…but he had just turned his head to look at one of the big screens behind him. Then grabbed his ear and the USSS was on him.
I have been thinking about this all day but his natural tendency to go off script is what saved his life. No doubt in my mind.
Had he not turned his head at that moment….

Wow Sundance. I always took your assurance that DJT was our messenger with a grain of salt. I don’t think that can be denied any longer.
Yes. God bless Stephen, political prisoner of the Biden* administration. Thank you for posting.

I pray for DJT every morning as do many other American patriots. I have NO DOUBT that our prayers were answered on Saturday. Yes. Divine intervention showing us once more that the presidency of DJT is prophetic. There is so much to be grateful for today. Please. Let’s all continue to ask God to protect DJT and thus protect America. The country came within an inch of civil war on Saturday.
We need to pray for all of the rally attendees too, I see now. 🙁 It could have been any of us, right? Or one of our loved ones. I’m so angry. I don’t think I’m ever going to get over this.

I have some doubt as to the accuracy of the depicted wound channel if the round had struck.
I think it more likely that the 55gr 5.56 would have entered, slowed, tumbled and ricocheted at least once while breaking off chunks of bone and shredding meninges and brain tissue along with the vacuum of the entrance wound channel. It may have also had chunks of the bullet break off (mainly bits of copper) causing further channels. 5.56 ain’t no joke. While mainly designed to cause casualties, ie wounding, it is not usually a one shot man-stopper, sans precise (or lucky) shot placement, but rather causes other soldiers to stop fighting to care for the wounded lest they expire from exsanguination over time which takes more than the enemy shot out of the fight for every one of them hit.
Which is why I would never hunt deer with the round. I don’t relish either tracking a wounded animal for long distances, an animal suffering for an extended period of time, nor the taste of the meat after the animals adrenaline and other hormones flood its body. If you don’t get a heart or brain shot, that animal is not dropping immediately.
Just my opinions…

How did the shooter (showing up with gun and ladder) know that particular building wouldn’t be occupied by perimeter control agents.
Seems like that info might not be unavailable to the public.

Amen, fellow Treeper.
What role does wind and temperature have on ballistics? Can they be significant?

The fireman was hit by a different bullet.
Was the bullet a 5.56 or a .223?
FYI:

5.56 mm = .223 inches

There are no coincidences.
