I adore the older Americans who populate this website and so love their country, but the time of crisis has come. At about the same time Bismark was instituting the welfare state in Prussia/Germany an academic named Woodrow Wilson was being groomed, right here in the US, to become president of the United States (Not a coincidence).

With the culture problems at Boeing, and defects in, largely, the 737-type fleet being at the forefront, I wondered if the Chinese Communists had already infiltrated and taken over.
I am a bit surprised they’d copy the 737-type, as it’s ancient and full of compromises to keep flying, notably surrounding the parameters which led to the grounding of the Max variant. It was designed with exposed main landing gear and JT8-D engines for a reason, generally to be low to the ground, hence with engines as part of the wing, not down and forward in pods.
The Chinese jet solves some of these problems but IMO they’d been smarter to steal and copy an Airbus design.
I wouldn’t fly a Chinese jet on principal, regardless of how good it is. However, I flew Tupolevs, mostly the Tu-154, built during Communism, so I guess that would be a bit hypocritical. The 154 was a lot like the Boeing 727 except designed for rougher service, like unpaved runways.
Ironically, the 737 still has some older -200 era models in gravel/dirt/grass service, equipped with special ‘gravel kits’ to protect the engines, landing gear and belly.
Personally, coming from the manufacturing world, I think Boeing stepped on their own dick when putting beancounters in charge instead of engineers and manufacturers. That could’ve been due to infiltration by the Chinese but I have my doubts about that. I stopped tracking the details after Phil Condit left and a lot has happened since then so my mind is open about the possibilities. Thanks.
Regarding the reserve fleet, I believe it was last utilized significantly during the bungled Afghanistan retreat and the airliners I personally tracked were Boeing, mostly 767 and 777 models, but I don’t doubt some Airbus widebody aircraft, like the A330, were/are in the mix.
You posit an interesting narrative; since American airlines are often used to move troops, instead of or to supplement what I used to call MAC flights (military airlift command), the possibility of Chinese jets moving our military personnel around is a very real 0ne, even outside of emergency situations. So, should it get to that, we can write him in ss a “protest vote” but it won’t be counted, in there official tally.
