Friday night a total of 26 barges, 23 loaded and 3 empty, broke loose from their moorings along the Ohio River near Pittsburgh and floated uncontrolled until they were mostly recovered. There were no reports of injuries, but a marina sustained extensive damage in the incident.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety said in a statement, “At 11:25 p.m., Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, and Police were dispatched for reports of barges breaking loose and floating uncontrolled down the Ohio River.
In total, 26 barges broke loose; 23 were loaded and three were empty. Those that were loaded had dry cargo such as coal, and no hazardous materials on board. There have been no reports of people injured, but Peggy’s Marina sustained extensive damage.
Eleven of the barges have been located and pinned against the river bank by Brunot Island and currently being held by a tugboat. Fourteen continued down the river and six have gone over the Emsworth Dam.
The barges are owned or operated by Campbell Transportation Company located on the left descending bank of the Ohio River, just downstream from the McKees Rocks Bridge.
The West End Bridge was closed in both directions and rail traffic was shut down on the rail bridge to Brunot Island. Both will be reopened when it is determined that it is safe to do so.
The Coast Guard, Pennsylvania State Police, and various law enforcement, EMS agencies, and fire departments in neighboring jurisdictions have been notified.” (LINK)
“Campbell Transportation Company, Inc. is actively responding to a recent development involving a multi-barge breakaway in Pittsburgh. Our immediate priority is ensuring public safety and minimizing any potential environmental impact,” the statement read. “The incident occurred under high water conditions on the rivers resulting in strong currents due to flooding in the area.” (SOURCE)

Yes…she’s lurking, too, BK…and staring! 😂
A couple years ago, over a hundred food processing plants mysteriously caught fire or had explosions. Now we are to believe all of a sudden, barges are getting a mind of their own and going rogue?
When I read this: “…a total of 26 barges, 23 loaded and 3 empty, broke loose from their moorings along the Ohio River “, I thought no, the lines holding them in place were cut or undone.
“Broke loose” at the same time?! How can that happen? How are the barges attached to the shore?
They’re were not attached to the shore. Some trans person attached them to each other by mistake.
They are attached by steel cable but are attached to each other so when the cable attached to the ground gets overwhelmed they all go.
THEY are not even trying to hide it any more. It is an IN YOUR FACE assault on We The People. They hate us and are determined to wipe out everything we stand for.
Something smells rotten in the barges like garbage propaganda.🦨
question: were these fires/explosions/”maintenance issues” ever investigated?
any reports available on any of them?
the color revolution that happened during Trump admin (against Trump and MAGA) saw BLM, Black Bloc/Antifa receive military intelligence training and personnel. Witness the statements of veterans who tried to engage the BLM/Antifa riots on the streets (and I dont mean the sell outs of Proud Boys etc).
There is now an evil combination of militant activists who have grown up reading Earth Liberation Front and the Anarchist Cookbook and now receive City of London money to destabilize the USA to prevent independent national development and structural adjustment of a second Trump administration.
This is called Monkey Wrenching. You throw a wrench into the wheels of the factory, hard to prove its not an accident, causes damage and slowdowns and general disruptions but plausible deniably

The cat is suspicious for a reason.
Indeed. There are no coincidences when it comes to politics and the sabotage of our Republic.
NOT an “accident.”
More sabotage of the economy’s already terrible health!
No. Not an accident. IT has started.
According to reports, only one dock sustained extensive damage…
Peggy’s Marina succumbed to pier pressure. 🙂
Does Suspicious Cat pay you pennies per pun, Wordman?

Hogwash, not this time anyhow.
I think they were doing an experiment to #1) see how many first responders they could tie up in this “emergency”, and #2) see how distracted people get over this calculated nonsense.
‘ “The incident occurred under high water conditions on the rivers resulting in strong currents due to flooding in the area.” ‘
So, after hundreds of years of experience, American river barge workers have lost the know-how necessary to ensure barges stay tied at dock, during expected high water and current conditions?
Maybe the ropes are all eco-friendly, biodegradable in water. A recent DEI hire at the pier thought it would be a fabulous idea.
The ropes were racist. Just ask the NASCAR.
The ropes were enslaving the barges. They had to be set free!
Ropes were tied in nooses?
During the height of river tug traffic (1950/60’s) the chances were much higher than today. Lots of mills have been shut down along the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny rivers so traffic has lightened significantly! Still a helluva lot of bridges in Allegheny County!
There are more bridges in the Pittsburgh metro than in any other city – including Venice.
Seoul, Korea might give Pittsburgh a run for its money when it comes to bridges.
The Han River Bridge, just five years old, collapsed into the river during my first tour in Korea.
Along with an entire department store and various construction projects.
The predominant natural disaster in Korea is gravity.
You are correct. Many stories from my childhood can confirm.
There are no ropes, only steel cables
Are the cabkes looped over a post to hold the barge?
Those posts (ones I’ve seen anyway) have huge bulbous heads that generally prevent the steel cables or very heavy ropes from (erm) floating up and off.
All current Barge School students are required to take a series of DEI courses titled: “Rollin on the River”.
lol
There’s likely some total BS DEI hires in these incidents somewhere along the line
I don’t know barge work is out in the elements
See, SEE!
” Flooding in the area “ This is the result of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (climate change).
/sarc
If only it were that easy of an explanation. /s
Remember that math is now racist. So people can no longer calculate currents vs flooding pertaining to moorings.
Because of FJB’s inflation, they tied all the barges with one “made in china” rope, they couldn’t afford anymore. Plus, the DEI dock worker that doesn’t know the difference between a man and a woman also didn’t know the difference between a bowline knot and a bow knot.
That is how stupid the villainous elites think we are.
Even me without boat/ship/water knowledge knows that any water vessel is subject to the water’s movement IF the vessel is not attached to the and or anchored to the waterbed.
So they think that we will swallow the explanation that higher water caused 26 attachments to brake at once?
most swallowed covid and the wearing of masks didn’t they?
”Without knowledge” is a fact if you think this was a conspiracy.
Exactly, Pith.
This is total BS.
exactly
have not lost the knowledge, conditions just are sometimes beyond control, thing small boat in 40 foot seas.
Hmmmm…another bridge may have been damaged by out of control boats/barges/ships.
I don’t remember incidents like this hitting multiple bridges/transportation bottlenecks before. It is almost like something enemy sabotage squads would dream of doing. Curious.
Pittsburgh bridges had barge hits in 2012 and 2019. It’s not unprecedented for the area.
These enemies were alive and working in 2012 and 2019. Previous events make for even better camouflage.
Goal posts moved from “bridges never got hit by barges before” to “they were already sabotaging bridges 12 years ago.”
C’mon, good Treepers: There’s enough real shyt going on; no need for fictional fear porn. Ask any Pittsburgh native about the annual spring flood tides and the ice floes coming down the Allegheny.
Doesn’t mean they can’t step in to help nature out, or wouldn’t.
Back in tthe 1990s decade some 18 to 20 barges broke away from a sand and gravel dredging operation upstream from Pittsburgh. The barges had been tied to trees along the right descending bank. A rapid melt and breakup of ice on the Allegheny caused the moorings to fail. Bridges were hit. I believe at least one barge made it made it to the confluence of the Beaver River. Another barge was last seen slipping under water near the Heinz plant and was never found. It happnens.
So, are you saying the barges were tied to trees and moored.
If so, if one method of anchoring failed, why would both?
Not sure I follow. I live on the coast and we have many boats “moored” out in the bays and intracoastal waterway. And others tied to docks, pier, or whatever on banks.
But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen water vessels both “moored” and tied off to a fixture along the coastline.
The barges in question were tied to trees. Perhaps I misued the word mooring.
In the fifties a military plane perhaps with an A bomb crashed in the monongahela River at Pittsburgh and was never found. Now you can talk about conspiracy
Yenz got it right.
But were those bridges hit by a mob of 26 barges?
26 = high capacity barges
I don’t believe in coincidences anymore. Haven’t for quite a few years.
There are NO conspiracies, but there are NO coincidences . . .
Steven K Bannon
The City of London would say otherwise.
If they weren’t hiding behind all the governments and organizations they control.
Conspiracies are quite real, the Communist Conspiracy was born the very year of our Founding.
I think you are correct.
Applying Occams razor, and “Once?,…coincidence to Bannon, with Cortez and getting his posse all in for Gaetz’s play with “yes but he’s our hoor McCarthy”, followed by McJohnson, I personally wouldn’t be quoting Bannon,..but thats just me.
😉
Don’t forget Davis either.
I knew there was another, but DID forget the name, thanks.
If some are going to continue to rag on PDJT for his selection of hus first admin (which I feel has been addressed) then we certainly should look at Steves poor record!
Cortes has not been back on WarRoom since he took the bribe to back DeSantis.
I couldn’t be happier that McTurd is gone. We owe Gaetz & 7 others some serious gratitude for that.
Anyone that we got in McTurd’s place couldn’t have possibly been worse than he was.
What were you expecting? Gaetz & company to install a hand picked replacement? That was never going to happen & rightly so.
And the pretendings will continue….
“Slowly, at first, then …”
I am feeling the “all at once” today.
For a while there were a rash of food processing fire, then rash of rail incidents, and now ports and waterways.
This is coordinated. Connect the dots.
Burned chickens and cattle, too…
Don’t critisise my cooking! Lol.
^^^^^^^^^
And metal recycling plants burned, fertilizers plants too.
As well as energy facilities.
Indeed, nothing now can be taken at face value, leastwise not the face they try to put on things.
Hey Derps, we see you!
The Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio River, The Allegheny watershed does extend all the way into New York State. The Mon drains W. Virginia and Md (through the Youghiogheny River) The Beaver River flows into the Ohio downstream of Pittsburgh. Lots of water in the area.
BTW, history buffs will know the Lewis and Clark expedition started in Elizabeth, Pa. (Mon River) Lots of history too!
There are no coincidences.
Only synchronicity!
“Barges broke loose?” Yeah, sure, we believe that. Just like we believe all the fires at chicken farms were accidental and that the Dali accidentally ran into a bridge.
Considering it’s happened before … maybe it’s exactly what it is.
https://apnews.com/general-news-62f39b355c434500893ed9149efd90cb
So if it has happened before, why haven’t they learned from the past and corrected errors?
Do you/have you ever exceeded the speed limit on the road? Didn’t receiving a few tickets TEACH you NOT to speed? Why didn’t it work?
Ans: Reversion to the mean. Ppl are lazy, and eventually lose memory of any ‘lesson’ they might have learnt, or don’t think anything will happen ‘this time’.
This comparison doesn’t make sense. Barges are owned by companies, not individuals. These companies have procedures, safety inspectors, laws and costly liability insurance. Mistakes can be made and yes, sometimes individual workers are lazy, but there are procedures in place to protect the company. Individuals who make repeated reckless choices are not really in the same category. They typically don’t have to answer to anyone but themselves.
You can’t plan for every contingency. I would contend that purposely releasing these barges would be nearly impossible. With the flooding they could only be reached by a small boat and that would be a stunt , then the cable would need to be cut with some sort of tool and then this person would need to fight a massive current to survive. I doubt a Navy Seal would attempt this.
Nearly impossible if the conditions you claim indeed existed and the singular method you chose to imagine had been attempted.
Many ways to skin a cat, and you cite the most difficult method possible as proof it couldn’t be done.
Once is an accident…
Twice is a coincidence…
Three times is a pattern!!!
What is this event, attack number 117?
I thought three times was enemy action.

Ah, reminds me when my 95 year old Grandpa broke loose from his nursing home and took all his buddies there for a nude walk around the neighborhood.
Oops sorry, different story. 😉
But this grandpa liked your story
It’s true too. He got a sextuple bypass at 88, had two fairly new hips, and he was still ready and rarin’ to go. Anyone who wanted to was welcome to join him, and they did. It was in a residential neighborhood, so you can imagine. 1990s.
The only reason that he was in a nursing home was because he couldn’t keep his hands off the hired help we brought in to his home. 😉 It became the only option left. They were warned in advance, and said they got this. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I see what you did there!
Did he retire as a bargeman?
RR Engineer for the KATY.
1 maybe. 26 … no.
C’mon, man. Happens all the time (sarc)
Happens about every tenth year in late March / early April, when the Allegheny River ice is thicker than usual and the spring rains are heavier than usual.
26, huh?
If you say so.
And the ice and rain just make those barges tear away from their tetherings.
No excuses.
Except there was no ice this year. You know, global warning, that doesn’t exist.
2, no. 26 is as much an accident as 9/11, that is 3 commercial jets just happened all within one hour to crash into 3 very large building with thousands of people.
Well, frankly if this WAS a terrorist attack, or espionage/sabatoge, by a hostile power i.e. CCP,….it was a pretty piss poor as it did minimal damage.
Now the bridge last week, that was spot on and perfect, the way it took out the bridge and shut down the whole port, indefinetly?
Wow? But this,…not so much.
The little duds help cover up the intentionality of the big boom.
When flipping a coin, how many times in a row does it need to come up heads before one suspects that is something suspicious about the coin?
That essentially was the point of my comment. What exactly the impetus is for the suspicion is another matter.
How many rogue barges at one place and time does it take before one rules out happenstance?
100% activist created.
Pittsburgh suffered extreme rain and flooding less than 24 hours before the barges broke free. Rapidly rising river water causes stress on the bindings that keep the barges together. I understand the skepticism, but let’s not pretend that this happened on a calm, unremarkable night. There were extreme extenuating circumstances that preceded it.
That’s a tough sell given the world as it currently is.
Finally, a voice of reason. One must consider all factors involved in the incident before jumping on the conspiracy bandwagon.
And, its a matter of our FOCUS or attention.
This COULD be a common occurence, but itsnot usually reported.
And actually, the REPORTING of common occurances that normally aren’t reported on, thereby making them SEEM extraordinary, could be “the thing” and being used to destabilise, sew fear, etc.
Kinda like how the idiots are pointing to stuff that happens all the time, and argueing its “proof” of or caused by Climate Change.
Truth.
I barely survived the recent eclipse.
Spot on, Dutchman.
Barges break loose when told to do so in groups.
You are correct, but don’t lose sight of the fact that the rivers were receding the week before this happened!
.
I don’t know what the weather was like in Pittsburgh, but I do know, first-hand, that in western Maryland, immediately to the south, the heavy rains were accompanied and followed by particularly nasty winds. Perfect cover for sabotage, of course; but also just the sort of weather event that conceivably could have driven one imperfectly secured barge from its moorings, which, in turn, drove another, and so on…
The Domino Theory writ wet.
A check of the cables will provide the answer.
And elephants can fly.😂
Death by a thousand cuts. Our marine sector is being attacked.
Still voting for anyone other than President Trump? Not Treepers, of course, but protest votes are just not right. RFK has enough baggage and the Dems have yet to “address” it.
It’s getting difficult to know if something is sabotage or just the general incompetence that has become the norm.
👉 “difficult to know if something is sabotage or just the general incompetence that has become the norm”👈
🤔Considering your last phrase, it “has become the norm” because part of asymmetrical warfare is infusing, propagandizing, instructing and hiring mostly the “incompetent”👌👍.
😈Direct Sabotage still is a viable option when “they” deem it useful.
Agreed, direct sabotage would be more accurate.
Now there is a real possibility.
but, at least we are thinking it could be sabotage
thinking in the right direction regardless
this type of thinking might be the caution for the future
Probing for sure. But hey, I’m sure there are double the number of FBI agents looking into this that rushed to the Bubba Wallace garage incident.
As long as we know Delusional Joe is on it all is well.
Hmmm…I do not suppose being able to sleep soundly any time in the near future.
Thats it. After the Bubba incident, Buttgig passed a regulation prohibiting the tieing of ropes into “nooses” and thats why the barges got loose.
Cause its raaaassssccciiist!
Wait until wind powered, i.e. sailing ships come back. These fools might be stricken with a stroke at the sight of so many ropes tied into various kinds of knots in the rigging.
They are using spinning vertical towers, steel and composite.
Though some are floating huge kites as a solution, definitely Charlie Brown territory there.
Lots of CoinkyDink “accidents” happening all of a sudden during the Obama-Biden Criminal Regime, trains carrying toxic materials derailing, boats and barges out of control on our rivers knocking down bridges, trucks exploding under overpasses, massive wildfires in Hawaii and in the heart of cattle grazing areas in Texas, airplanes falling apart or blowing out doors in-flight… Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, third time is enemy action.
But PETEY Buttigieeeeeeeeggler and his HUSBAND are on top of every event…..
No pics please! BARF!!!
Dude pokes holes in everything!
you sure he’s the poker?
might well be the pokee
Either way he stinks.
Pete ButtGig doesn’t have a “husband”…
…he has a Rectal Romeo.
China…they are buying Biden’s vacation.
Did i miss the reason why? theres so much today im so sad, and just read Iran closed its Air Space? Be safe everyone and enjoy the rest of your wknd
First it was processing plants.
Then, it was trains derailing.
Then, planes started falling apart.
Now, it’s ships and boats.
What’s next?
Who knows? But i am with the Cat!
Wait for it…it’s coming.
Followed by “The perpetrators were on the FBI’s radar.”
Will the patsies be “Islamists” or “Christian Nationalusts” or “Russians”?
So many scapegoats to choose from, whats a tyranists to decide?
“Islamists” are a protected class now…so not them.
Same for Trans-whatever the word du jour is.
Russians??
Nah…
Door Number Two, dutch…
“MAGA Christian Nationalists”
Where do I place my bet?
Sorry B.K. I would only give you 1:1 odds, lol.
Phooey…
I am reminded of the revelations of the Boston presser cooker bombers…even after all the intel warnings.
I remember them as well. And the nightclub in Florida. And the terrorists in San Diego.
And first 9/11.
One might be a bit suspicious of collaboration.
But no…surely the US federal police force wouldn’t do that…
Would they?
Don’t ask….
In northern IL, I am waiting on a barge or two Io clip the Des Plaines River Bridge on I-80.
That bridge is a mess and dangerously in need of repairs.
So we had a bunch of train derailments. Then we have a barge lose power snd take out a bridge. Then almost the same thing happens with a barge in New York but they were able to get extra tugs to help and now this.
Suspicious cat has a right to be suspicious. It’s almost like someone is testing how to affect our distribution systems and seeing our response.
Naw, I call bullshyte.
Now,…if this entity,..this “someone” had first done some kind of a detailed, ariel survey of our country, say with a high altitude ariel balloon,….
I used to travel those bridges for quite a few years. I had thought about that more often than I would have liked! I notice a bridge along the Parkway has nets suspended from underneath it to catch falling parts! That was what started my fear of bridge failure. The fact that Allegheny County (Pgh. area) has the most bridges of any area in the USA. PennDOT was always hurting for money and bridge repair took a back seat. The most highly traveled bridge is the Ft. Pitt bridge on the Parkway!
Are the nets to catch parts, or suicide attempts?
IIRC Golden gate has nets to discourage jumpers?
My thought as well.
Could also have accompanied a repair or painting project.
I believe the Golden Gate bridge just added nets, for humanitarian purposes.
I was just watching a show recently, it may have even been last night about abandoned structures. They talked about bases all up and down the NW Pacific coast to keep the Japanese at bay, and they mention what would happen if they took out the GG bridge. I tho’t, say what?
No need for suspicious cat this time. This native Yinzer tells you this is commonplace: The spring thaw breaks up the ice on the upper Allegheny … it joins the elevated river level caused by spring rains … barges break loose and get caught non the dams. If you check the Pittsburgh newspapers, you’ll see that the Point was nearly 10 ft underwater earlier this week, and a few feet again two days ago.
Thanks for providing this info. Makes perfect sense.
Right
Not an accident
How long before a Boeing Jet crashes into a boat that destroys a bridge a train is going over?
😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂
A train loaded with hazmat,..got to get that in there.
Retired Magistrate here: I grew up along the Ohio River. It might be typical for a barge to break loose; in fact it happened quite often. However, 26 at once is not typical at all. Those barges had a lot of help.
Bingo. 🎯
It was the quantity at one time that gave it away.
What, you don’t think it makes purrfect sense, especially with rising river, to tie 25 barges to each other, and then tie them to ONE Barge, which is then tied to a dock?
Makes purrfect sense to me,…doh! Anybody check to see where Homer Simpson was?
The IC is serious about creating the crises which lead to the fall of the USA.
Drip, drip, waiting for the obvious, big one.
The bad actors are everywhere
Seems to me Lara Logan was correct in what she reported regarding the Key Bridge collapse in Maryland . . . that it was purposeful. I agree with Suspicious Cat.
Smart cat!
Chinese agents that have snuck across the border, beginning sabotage ops on our Republic?
Been here for a long time, own our Congress and more, far from beginning . . .
I was in the Tug and barge biz on the left coast for 2 decades. Were the barges built for towing(latched together with stainless steel ropes)? That would make more sense as one breaks loose the others follow. In the Columbia river system the building of the tow are 4 barges as the upriver lock size dictates these things. The MS river system(Ohio included) build massive tows with dozens of barges.
The photos show barges drifting many directions, some here some there, doesn’t sound very tied together to this cat.
This is fine. Nothing to see here. Move along now.
“Broke loose”
Don’t be suspicious in this particular case. Happens a lot in the area (I lived there) especially when there is flooding.
Sand in the gears??
Wrong machinery to be MAGA minded folk.
Broke loose on their own? Those barges were moored and then SUDDENLY JUST broke loose??? On their own with no help from anyone cutting ropes or anything? Mmmmm–hmmm
We Will Not Break 🇺🇸
Lived in the area 50 years. The rivers are in flood stage. Not uncommon for this to happen. 1972 during Hurricane Agnes was a lot worse. I actually had a boat at that marina and it survived but barely. Those two boat people are very courageous . About 25 years ago one was lost along with some crew doing pretty much the same thing. The only conspiracy here is Mother Nature.
Dan also remains hiiiiiighly suss…
This, to me, is: “what the hell?” Not unheard-of, however. The floodwaters must have made the situation very difficult …
Oh hell, or rather what hell will they unleash on us next? They don’t even know.
Ukraine says “pay us our $60 billions. Or we’re break your kneecaps.”
PA and it’s major city Philadelphia were thriving places during the times of our Founders. Men of high intellect, men of religious faith, ardent farmers, and their strong supportive wives. Every man, woman, and child of good conscience, modest but standing firm on the ideals of this NEW COUNTRY.
And although maybe not important, remember how Dick Clark was able to have his music show there in Philly, and subtly bring us more together in the late 50s, early 60s. And then JFK was assassinated and that changed everything, for the worse.
How far we have fallen.
