I thought seriously about just trashing the recipe post when the first comment, and three of the first eight, were gripes and snark. Especially after I made a point of letting people know our party is about family, not football. But, I would really enjoy some fun and food recipes, and there are a few people left here who can enjoy these posts, and others who have the class not to ruin things if they aren’t in the mood.
This isn’t sarcasm here. Yes, I am mad. But apparently there is a need for a place to just blow off steam. I may actually do this second post every time I do any other post at all.
If you don’t like football, Taylor Swift, Kansas City or San Fran, or any other thing that puts a bee in your bonnet, here’s your place.
Blow off steam but keep it clean. This is not a place for you to bestow your nastiest vocabulary on us.
And please, consider letting the rest of us enjoy some normal.
I miss the days when they would show Len Dawson smoking a cigarete when he was on the bench
Mentioning Len Dawson triggered an old memory: Super Bowl IV was played in New Orleans in the old Tulane Stadium (aka the Sugar Bowl). The 13 point favorite Vikings were whupped by the Chiefs 23-7. Len Dawson was their QB and Hank Stram the head coach. As a Saints season ticket holder my dad had gotten into a lottery for tickets to the game and was rewarded with four so the whole family attended. The tickets cost $15 apiece.
It seems that across the field, behind KC’s bench, two friends of my dad had tickets and before the game, they walked down the steps next to their section. At the bottom of each set of steps in the lower deck were gates onto the field so these two guys just went through the gate like they belonged there. They stood on the KC sideline through the entire game and no one said boo to them.
Hearing this story in the office on Monday, my dad and others called BS. One of the guys produced a copy of the New Orleans Picayune newspaper sports section and there these two guys were in one of the pictures.
Those guys were as old as my dad so they’re probably not around anymore but I’m guessing every Super Bowl Sunday they wheeled that story out. 🙂
That is a great story. Those were the days when the players were still human and weren’t treated like porcelain demi-gods. And things weren’t as controlled as they are now.
Walking right out onto the sideline and no one cared…..amazing!
I have been married a shade less than 47 years to the most wonderful woman I can imagine. My children and grandchildren are three miles away. My bills are paid. My belly’s full and I sleep indoors. I have not a thing to gripe about.
That is so nice and concise! You covered everything important-wonderful!
Nice!
Bitch and gripe. I have to say all the recipe bitchers should maybe go watch the food channel, learn something about cooking, and then post a recipe that might actually be good. Maybe the gripers are those people frustrated with cooking and can’t let cooks cook.
I started cooking very young because my mom had a list of jobs that rotated between brothers and sisters every week, and I looked forward to cooking because I didn’t like what my mom and family made. Lots of sources out there that are excellent for learning to cook. One of my favorites is Woks of Life. It’s about family and enjoying the process of learning to cook.

Very interesting this Woks Of Life. Thank you for sharing.
Your eyeballs watching their trash is what gives them money and power… literally and figuratively.
There’s no legitimate reason that a bunch of grown men should be rich and influential for simply playing a game that has no real world value. The reason they are, is because people watch and advertisers pay for access to those eyeballs – YOUR eyeballs.
If these media companies, sportsball players, owners, etc, all used their money to make this nation better – maybe that’s worth supporting. But they hate you and yours, and they use their money to destroy your nation and fight against you…
this doesn’t change delicious food and snacks, so keep that up!
Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump were not allowed to own AFL or NFL teams because the games are rigged and the organizations knew that neither of these exceptional men would have played along.
I lost all interest after the kneeling. Baseball and Basketball lost me when they went on strike for more money to play a child’s game for which they were already overpaid. I’m sure as hell not getting into soccer like a commie. Screw that.
I can support good food and good times with family. Always appreciate the recipe threads on here. I’ve used a bunch of them. (Food was why i ever went to superbowl parties in the first place).
We used to watch the Super Bowl for the half time show UNTIL it turned into porn!
You know, I have watched the Super Bowl since Supe I .. and there were many bad and boring games in the early years. But one thought I never had was ..
You know what would improve things? Perhaps if our parasitic pop culture would put on an overwrought, overlong show featuring performers who were past their prime. That way any momentum that a team had built up would be completely stifled. And the whole Super Bowl event would go on for so long it would seem as if two games had been played
And then at the end, we could let an overbearing ADHD case like Terry Bradshaw make the trophy award ceremony all about himself as he babbled on and on about some damn thing or another
Well said.
NFL/AFL are rigged? That’s interesting. I know the NFL has greatly changed since I’ve been around but, except for some referees and perhaps some corrupt players, I’ve never thought the games were rigged.
How do you know?
Too many of us forget to just be grateful- daily!
I once was a Dallas Cowboys fan. I was in the bleachers at Annapolis when Roger Staubach played for Navy. These days, my closest connection to football is ribbing my friends who thought Dallas couldn’t choke in the playoffs AGAIN.
Did you here the one about the farmer who was teaching his girlfriend to drive his tractor?
She had never driven anything with a choke before, so he put a Dallas Cowboys star on the choke to help her remember it.
I personally gave up on football in general–as against the Cowboys–when the players spited the country by taking the knee during the anthem.
But I wish all the fans well.
If our enemies who are poisoning our politics and everything else prevail, both our bread and our circuses will stop.
If we pray hard and work hard, God may grant us our daily bread and delay judgement.
He may do that for the sake of His name even if we are unworthy.
Bugger, buggar, bugger, buggar, bugger…… Booger!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so glad you let me get that off my chest…;-)
I like the recipes 🙂
Soooo, the WinRed/RinoNC has reduced themselves to sending out fundraiser texts allegedly from Donald Jr., to raise money for his Dad. If you take the time to read the fine print, it says “not affiliated with any campaign or candidate. They’re a bumch of Grifters!
I miss the days when a hoodie was called a sweat jacket. The word hoodies makes me cringe.
What a great story. Much safer in America. And, Lenny Dawson was a real sweetheart!
The history of deviled bones.
I’m seriously sorry people trashed your recipe posting with inappropriate comments. That’s pretty crappy. Generally, I ignore those posts unless the picture is somehow interesting to me and I happen to be hungry at the time.
We live in highly stressed and emotional times and we can expect there to be some spillover.
Even though I am ALSO prone to such things, when I am not actively experiencing rage against the machinery, I am able to see those others’ frustrations for what they are.
Best advice? Let it wash over you but don’t let it get through your skin. They are simply expressing themselves and it is meaningless. I hope the down-voting will come into play to clean themselves up.
America is lost. The democrat party is made up of minorities and educated females, and the latter thinks that only social issues matter. Meanwhile, 70% of all fed spending goes to social programs and interest on the debt. We have no interest in fiscal matters, all that we care about is social, but if you look around, our social fiber stinks. That’s the mess we find ourselves in, and fully half the nation sees no need to change. 33T debt, endless foreign wars, and we think that trans and gay and Ukraine is all that matters. Bill Gates said that Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, yet 200B of our dollars went there because we have enough money and don’t care about real issues. Throw in corruption everywhere, and you see why Rome fell also.
Menagerie, it is good for you to produce a site that provides sustenance. Thank you.
