I recall Barack Obama from when he was in college. I met him in January, 1983, in Chicago. He had met Michelle at a Christmas party, while he was a senior at Columbia University in New York, and he had followed her to Chicago. He said he was staying with her in a rooming house for women on the south side.
Barack told me he had screwed up and missed the deadline to get his application submitted to the University of Chicago Law School. Michelle’s father and several other firefighters had invested together in an upscale black restaurant in the Hyde Park neighborhood, and he was working there.
We stood outside that restaurant smoking. I told him I was studying public policy, and he said he was interested in getting into politics. He had read “Lincoln: Speeches and Writings” for his senior paper, and wanted to become a Republican. I said he would have a better chance in Chicago, if he joined the Democratic Party. I don’t know, if he was pulling my leg, but he smiled at that.
“How can I get in the door,” he asked? I said I was a GOP precinct officer back home, and he could go to the City-County building downtown Chicago, and the elections department was to the left inside the door. He could find if there was a vacancy, where he was living, and ask to be appointed. He could start at the bottom and work his way up.
I decided to eat there, and I remember because it was my birthday, and he got me a jacket and tie to wear. He was always looking busy, and back and forth all over that place. He said he had been raised by his grandparents in California. He asked me if I could recommend any books for him to read. I said Robert’s Rules of Order, and Dale Carnegie: “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”
The next time I saw him, he was on TV. It was 20 years later. He was giving the keynote speech at the Democratic convention in 2004. I pointed at the television and said, “Hey I know that guy!” At the time I met him, Chicago had its first black mayor, Harold Washington. I think in retrospect, Barack Obama was in the right place, at the right time, for an articulate, ambitious and qualified man of color to go right to the top in the Democratic Party.
I voted for Barack Obama twice. At the time, I was disillusioned with the Republican Party of the Bush years. Since then I have returned to the GOP. Churchill said, “It is one thing to rat, but to re-rat is an entirely different matter.” I tend to believe most of what has been written about Barack Obama’s history, up to the point where he received the Democratic nomination for President in 2008. Then something changed. After the convention, he went to New York and met with Rupert Murdoch. He came out shaking his head. From that point on, he was not his own man.
I doubt that Barack Obama is running Joe Biden. He looks to me to be sidelined, amusing himself with the wealth from his books and projects producing movies. I keep asking myself the question: if open borders is an Obama policy, then why didn’t he do it when he was in office? Answer: it is not his policy. We have come to a point when blacks are increasingly disillusioned with the Democratic Party and increasingly supporting President Trump. I would like to see President Obama reach out to President Trump. I would like to see him step off the democrat plantation. It is a corrupted vessel, and the path forward is the path of truth.

We live in SW Utah in the most conservative part of the state. Before moving here seven years ago from CA we never had contact with Mormons.
Now at least half of the population in our mountain community belong to the LDS church. I have never before experienced such warm, kind and giving people as the Mormons. And their children usually have much better social and communication skills. While I have no intention of converting, I do so appreciate my LDS neighbors and friends.
I live in Las Vegas and I love SW Utah and I am not Mormon nor will I ever be. I visit a friend in Parowan UT and the town is spotless. Their park does not have bums living in it. They keep the bums out before they grow roots. It is so classic Americana. I was there in October and they had a Halloween even where all of the adorable children dressed up during the day and went Trick or Treating to the businesses in their old town main street. It was so wonderful to see.
I would live there if I could afford it but the real estate boom/high interest rates have locked everyone into their current housing.

It occurred to me that if President Trump felt a need to convince Dems he’s not going to target only Democrats for criminal prosecutions when reelected, the arrests and trials could start with members from his own first administration. I can think of more than a handful of them who might rightfully be charged with treason, or at least obstruction of justice.
Just returned from the grocery store where four men without carts standing together in the bread aisle talking in a different language. Seemed very peculiar for this midwestern suburb. The season calls us to Love, but it is difficult with a wide open border and who knows what is coming across it and the current resident and administration has no care at all.
I am not saying that all criminal invaders are bad people, just trespassing, disrespectful grifters that should be jettisoned back to the shitholes they came from. I say this as a Naturalized citizen that came to become an American.
You are right to view any and all of these people with suspicion.
A jar of jelly beans that contains a handful of poison ones isn’t worth the risk.

This took place prior to the completion of Mr. Smith’s oath.
It appears that Smith completed signing the “Oath of Office” as mandated by 5 U.S. Code § 3332 only on September 14, 2023. This requirement states that the oath should be filed within 30 days of assuming office, but in this case, it was filed 298 days later due to a missing witness signature.
Although the rectification occurred, the legal conundrum remains about whether actions taken prior to this date may be legally challenged.
