Ruling guilty before a trial is so “Alice in Wonderland”. It defies even the right to a trial, let alone a trial by a jury of one’s peers.
Yes, something does need to be done, to end these kangaroo court trials where the accused are judged guilty without being allowed to even put on a defense. Hmm, wonder what that something could be; oh, yes, legislation! That’ll do it. We could call it a Constitution, even set up an independent judiciary so that each individual will know their rights to present a defense are protected. Yes, that’ll be the ticket. /s

And even if you could see all the planets in our galaxy, there are 100-400 billion stars to search. That is one planet with life per 100-400 million stars.

The physical space we “live in” is more like a 3 dimensional place that we have learned to perceive so we can interpret and understand what otherwise would be incomprehensible.
The bottom line to me is that who and what we are exists not in particles or atoms at all. Our particles are just beads on an abacus to calculate where we are at a given moment, while the math and information that makes us, “Us”, has no material presence except as information at a conceptual level.

Adeel Abdullah Mangi, whom Biden tapped to serve on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, is an advisory board member of Alliance of Families for Justice. The organization, which works to end “mass incarceration,” was formed in 2016 with Weather Underground member Kathy Boudin as a founding director.
Boudin pleaded guilty to the murder of two police officers and a security guard during an armored truck robbery in 1981. The FBI named Weather Underground a domestic terrorist organization following a string of bombings and robberies in the 1970s and ‘80s.
The Alliance of Families for Justice, where Mangi has served since 2019, organized an event in 2021 to urge the release of six Black Panther and Black Liberation Army members serving life in prison for murdering police officers. The Alliance referred to the cop killers—including Black Panther members Mumia Abu-Jamal, H. Rap Brown, and others—as “freedom fighters” and claimed they were illegally targeted by the FBI.
Mangi also served on an advisory board for a group at Rutgers University which marked the 20th anniversary of 9/11 by inviting convicted terrorists to speak. He was questioned about this by Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana just last week.

X has already won
Elon Musk closed the acquisition of Twitter, now X, in October of 2022. Once that deal was closed, a bunch of advertisers left the platform out of fear of their brands being impacted by the new “Freedom of Speech” rules that X was looking to implement.
The premise was that ads would be shown next to content that advertisers don’t want to be associated with, and because X would now allow more “improper” content, the chances of having a negative ad experience could increase.
After leaving the platform for a few weeks, almost all advertisers have come back, albeit with lower ad spends. However, earlier this year, X gave guidance that the platform is near cash-flow neutral, minus debt obligations.
This means that even though the platform has suffered losses in terms of ad revenue, the company is close to being self-sufficient. In other words, no outside cash has to be brought into the company to keep it alive, as long as the trend continues.
Fast forward a few months, and after controversial comments made by Elon and an effort by Media Matters to encourage advertisers to boycott the platform, advertisers left again. However – just like the first time, after a few weeks, advertisers are beginning to come back.
There’s confirmation that Netflix has started to spend ad money on the platform again, and per Elon at his recent conference in Italy, advertisers are beginning to come back to the platform en masse. I think all of this points to something quite clear – the Overton Window is beginning to shift, and with it, a massively profitable endeavor for advertisers.
For those that are not familiar, the Overton Window is a term used to express what is “acceptable” to be discussed in a given time period. If you compare what is acceptable to be discussed on X today, vs what was acceptable on Twitter pre-acquisition, you can very clearly see that the “acceptable” topics are much more diverse and plentiful.
This means that the Overton Window has shifted.
Another example of this is also on YouTube.
A few days ago, Mario hosted a space with Elon Musk, Alex Jones, Andrew Tate, and other folks discussing Alex’s reinstatement and a bunch of other topics.
These topics pre-acquisition would not be admissible under Twitter’s former rules. What’s really interesting is that after making this edited content available on YouTube, YouTube has a) not taken down the content from the platform and b) allowed monetization on the content.
This implies that advertisers are now becoming comfortable advertising on content that they weren’t comfortable with in the past.
What does this mean for X? It’s quite simple – X’s willingness to stand for Free Speech, even when the CEO makes statements that cause the business to temporarily lose revenue, is creating a brand new market for advertisers that previously did not exist precisely due to an unwillingness to embrace Freedom of Speech.
And because X’s entire approach has been to uphold Freedom of Speech and accept the repercussions that come with it, the platform has positioned itself as the premier place for content that will be generated on this principle.
This same content is a market that advertisers have had 0 access to in the past because of the unwillingness of platforms to embrace Freedom of Speech, and the skittishness of ad agencies to sully their brands with controversial topics.
On top of this, it’s a market that is untapped, which will generate billions of views, and billions of dollars, for creators and advertisers alike. I do not suspect we’ll see another advertisers boycott in the future because of this dynamic.
There’s way too much money to be made, and now that the Overton Window has shifted to where the “public” is now “comfortable” with listening to dissenting and controversial opinions, advertisers will be tripping over themselves to advertise on X over the long term.
In my opinion, people respect the notion of being allowed to think for themselves, and because this has been subdued for far too long, there will be an avalanche of interest for content that is specifically challenging and controversial.
Ultimately, this will be massively profitable for advertisers due to the engagement and attention it’ll receive from the public.
I posited when Elon bought the platform that X would win if they could make Freedom of Speech profitable, and I think we’re starting to see glimpses of this being the case.

I had to to take one to task over telling my then 18 yr old twins that they could do what they chose, regardless what their crazy dad thinks. I proceeded to leave their practice and the large medical group over it after challenging her to educate my kids better than I could over the vaccine. She declined and was aghast that I said her Vanderbilt medical degree is worthless and she for damn sure wasn’t the smartest person in the room. That ended the conversation.

Introduction
The danger to world or regional public health from the escape from microbiology laboratories of pathogens capable of causing pandemics, or Potentially Pandemic Pathogens (PPPs) has been the subject of considerable discussion including mathematical modeling of the probability and impact of such escapes. The risk of such releases has generally been determined from estimates of laboratory infections that are often incomplete, except for the recent 2013 Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report, which is a significant source of recent data on escapes from undetected and unreported laboratory-acquired infections (LAIs).
This paper presents an historical review of outbreaks of PPPs or similarly transmissible pathogens that occurred from presumably well-funded and supervised nationally supported laboratories. It should be emphasized that these examples are only the “tip of the iceberg” because they represent laboratory accidents that have actually caused illness outside of the laboratory in the general public environment. The list of laboratory workers who have contracted potentially contagious infections in microbiology labs but did not start community outbreaks is much, much longer. The examples here are not “near misses;” these escapes caused real-world outbreaks.
I offered this yesterday under the “Open” topic, but thought I would place it here, as it does have relevance to the political climate.
I have added a few more thoughts:
We saw Wish, the latest cartoon movie from Disney, because a friend of my wife wanted to see it and check whether it was suitable (i.e. not woke) for her grandchildren.
I was skeptical.
In one sense, it is not “woke,” in that homosexuality is not present, overtly or subtly, and no “save-the-planet” agitprop was in sight.
In another sense, it is “woke,” in that a feminist agenda is prominent: the main character is a sub-Saharan African girl living on a (Spanish?) island in the Mediterranean among a multi-cultural population. Males are either evil (the king of the island) or incompetent yet lovable schnooks.
However…

Of interest is that the plot centers on a “freedom from government, think for yourself, get busy and fulfill your own wishes and dreams” – theme!
To us, as Conservatives, all of that is obvious! But these days of government paternalism have destroyed those ideas among too many generations.
The king in the story is also a sorcerer who takes his people’s wishes, puts a spell on the wishes, and “keeps them safe” in his palace, preventing people from fulfilling their wishes on their own.
The sorcerer-king decides whose wish will be fulfilled at the rate of one per year: you see, people’s desires might have unexpected consequences and cause distress, i.e. your success might prevent my success, and so, mediocrity and repression are necessary “to keep everyone safe.”
I was rather amazed – and pleased – by that aspect: and so a revolution occurs against the king, who is placed in a dungeon by his wife, the queen.
Matriarchy good, patriarchy bad! So the anti-government message is clothed in curious dress!
The “music” is barely deserving of the name! The “songs” tend toward the “yell-lots of words-on-one-note” style: melody is absent.
The style of the music is all over the place: one sequence sounds like something from Hamilton, in the “rap-style” which I despise, loathe, and hate on aesthetic and intellectual grounds.
The “lyrics” are clumsy, unmetrical, have far too many words racing by (both my wife and her friend complained they could not follow what the song was about, as the jabbered “lyrics” zipped past), and are basically prose statements, and bad prose at that: not one atom of poetry exists in them.
We all agreed that no little girls in the Fifth Grade will be singing anything from this movie in school talent shows, unlike what happened with Frozen!
That song also suffers from clumsiness in the lyrics, banality in the harmonic and polyphonic construction, and poor orchestration, but it is light-years beyond the complete failure of every “song” in Wish.
In the end, it is a mediocre, and at times boring movie – too many of those terrible anti-musical sequences, which do nothing or little for advancing the plot or anything else- which has little in it to evoke laughter or even a smile.
It is a sad tribute to Walt Disney himself, especially as the movie is supposed to be honoring the 100th anniversary of the company.
When one thinks of the well-constructed plot with both high drama and low comedy, advanced animation for its day, and the music – often evoking the spirits of Robert Schumann and other German Romantics – in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, or of something delightfully witty and dramatic, also with afvanced animation for its day, from much later, like 1987’s The Great Mouse Detective, where Vincent Price offers us his voice in a deliciously funny – and yet threateningly evil – performance, complete with a few very funny songs! – one sees a very sad difference indeed between them and this mediocrity.
Addendum: only 5 people were in the theater, i.e. two other people showed up…no children at all!
The other two happened to be acquaintances of my wife’s friend: they were also checking it out for their grandchildren, and were similarly disappointed.
And tickets were only $3.00! You can buy a small pop and a small popcorn for a dollar each! Small-town theater!
Thank you for putting into words the reason I can’t stand the ‘music’ in these Disney things of today. “yell lots of words on one note”. I will remember this forever.

Within the next several days, barring intervention from Congress, the Biden Regime, in violation of the law, will remove the Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, commissioned to celebrate the reconciliation of North and South.
The memorial is considered the masterwork of the renowned Jewish-American sculptor Sir Moses Ezekiel (a former Confederate soldier who was described by his biographer as “adamantly opposed to slavery”) who is buried at its base.

Yet in the wake of the George Floyd moral panic, this memorial was scheduled for removal, though its removal is being done in violation of several federal laws and the clear text of the legislation, which excludes graves.
