As expected, the Senate dropped all the woke restrictions from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and added $300 million for Ukraine along with a four-month extension of the FISA 702 authority until April 19, 2024.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Senate backed a defense policy bill authorizing a record $886 billion in annual military spending with strong support from both Democrats and Republicans on Wednesday, sidestepping partisan divides over social issues that had threatened what is seen as a must-pass bill.
Separate from the appropriations bills that set government spending levels, the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, authorizes everything from pay raises for the troops – this year’s will be 5.2% – to purchases of ships, ammunition and aircraft as well as policies such as measures to help Ukraine and pushback against China in the Indo-Pacific.
This year’s bill is nearly 3,100 pages long, authorizing a record $886 billion, up 3% from last year.
The NDAA “will ensure America can hold the line against Russia, stand firm against the Chinese Communist Party, and ensures that America’s military remains state-of-the-art at all times all around the world,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said before the vote.
But the final version of the NDAA left out provisions addressing divisive social issues, such as access to abortion and treatment of transgender service members, that had been included in the version passed by the House over the objections of Democrats, threatening to derail the legislation.
The 100-member Senate backed the NDAA by 87 to 13. The House is expected to pass it as soon as later this week, sending it to the White House where President Joe Biden is expected to sign it into law.
The fiscal 2024 NDAA also includes a four-month extension of a disputed domestic surveillance authority, giving lawmakers more time to either reform or keep the program, known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
The Senate defeated an attempt to remove the FISA extension from the NDAA on Wednesday before voting to pass the bill. (read more)

Dutch – those things were/are ALREADY being “funded” – i.e. the Pentagon has been allowing funds/reimbursements for “abortion travel” (see Sen. Tommy Tuberville hold on promotions (since removed) until Pentagon reverses this policy – didn’t happen).
The original NDAA that passed the House removed the ability to continue funding for abortion travel and transgender surgeries, etc.
The NDAA that passed the Senate removed those restrictions and so what remains is status quo -the military continuing to fund these items.
That’s why I’m shocked my two D senators (MA) still voted against the NDAA – now I need to find out the reason why these two Senators voted against it.

Christmas is a little more dim this year…less bright…less zeal and laughter/yearning for the future..the coming a little less enchanted and exciting and with less favor….I believe we’ve seen the best….our ‘new’, transformed country is being set up from the southern border and everyone that sits on capitol hill and dining at the capitol hill club enjoyed their dining, their drinks and cocktails and took the Judas silver and just looked the other way…..

Whatever happened to Senate/House conferences where the two chambers vompromise their differences and then vote anew?

What is in the 3100 page NDAA that we don’t yet know about and what the politicians who approved it haven’t bothered to read. No doubt the 87 YEA voters are heavily supported by the defense contractors.
Retired Magistrate here: I just assume all members of Congress are bought and paid for that way I am not disappointed. Then, if one of them actually does something to benefit U.S. citizens I am pleasantly surprised. Doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes it does.
Just remember people who run for Congress may start out with good intentions; however it doesn’t take long for them to figure out that being a member of Congress is a good way to get rich quick at the expense of their constituents. The goal is to make enough money during their first term so if they don’t get re elected it doesn’t matter-they take their cash and run to a high paying job in the private sector.
Thanks for the roll call vote! At least now we know who is NOT on the take with Ukraine. (Not to say they are grifting somewhere else!LOL).
Seriously tho, these roll calls should be more publicized so we can do the follow-ups regarding accountability. So may of these votes under buried under mundane names, or just the number which makes it difficult to track down for those of us who are not as computer savvy as others.

Why would anyone meet with Ryan? I went to my dictionary and looked up the meaning of RINO and a picture of Ryan was in place of the words that would define the acronym. Then I went to my thesaurus to look up potential synonyms for RINO. Yep, you guessed it, once again the words had been replaced with Ryan. It seems that the swamp is deep with one as well.
