After 2015/2016, and the GOP response to a very conservative President named “Trump”, I no longer trust anyone. I CERTAINLY do not trust anyone, not even one elected official in the GOP. You might say I “favor” a few of them, probably fewer than I can count on the fingers of my hands, but trust? No way. Not even Trump.
Reagan’s motto about the Soviets was prescient: “Trust, but verify”. Little did I know back then, but that applied as much or more, to my own Republican party, as it did to the Communist/Socialist Russians. Men are snakes. Good men are feckless, liable to turn on you in a split second. Not just in politics, but my own experience. Men who would engage you for support, fellows in arms in my industry, so to speak, will turn on you the moment it gains them a penny, let alone, when their own skin is on the line. Happened to me repeatedly in the US Navy and later in my civilian business/IT career. The fall of man was the corruption of men, completed.
I am a loner by nature, have few close relationships, cultivated by the abuse by others from my childhood onward. I won’t “out” some of those conservative/MAGA people you would recognize, people whom you respect, but also people who I have personally engaged, who have also turned out to be snakes. Suffice it to say, our problem is not just authoritarian, “the ends justifies the means” socialists, but most of those who supposedly struggle with us, with their shoulders at the same wheel. Lol, it amazes me in historical reflection, that any movement such as the 1776 American revolution should have succeeded at all, given the unreliability of even “good” men.
