EU calls on Musk to tackle disinformation on X
EU industry chief Thierry Breton has told Elon Musk to tackle the spread of disinformation on his X messaging platform since Palestinian Islamist group Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel.
Breton said on Tuesday he had indications that X, formerly known as Twitter, was being used to disseminate illegal content and disinformation in the European Union.
“I therefore invite you to urgently ensure that your systems are effective and report on the crisis measures taken to my team,” Breton said in a letter to Mr Musk.
Breton did not give details on the disinformation he was referring to.
Responding to Breton’s X posting, Mr Musk said his company’s policy was that everything is open source and transparent.
“Please list the violations you allude to on X, so that the public can see them,” he said.
Check mate by Musk- show the world what you think is disinfo, and we will let you know whether it is or not. You don’t get to control the message. I don’t necessarily like Musk but I hope he keeps strong on this one.

1] Give the EU a Twitter / X account.
2] Let it list the violations and who submitted the request for removal.
3] Let community notes adjudicate the claims for, say, 72 hours.
4] Depending on the outcome, remove the material and penalize the poster or keep it up. It the issue is unclear, then possibly put up a disputed tag.
5] Review the decision at monthly intervals to ascertain if new information comes to light that disputes or verifies the claim.
6] If the new information indicts the requestor then penalize them for bringing false claims. And repeated offenders can be banned from bring new claims for a period of time or permanently.
Keep it all public. Then one can see who is trying to really battle against false information and who is trying to abuse system.
PS: And instead of a Blue Check mark give every X user a “TRUTH & ACCURACY SCORE” from 1-100% next to their name. Someone like Glenn Greenwald would have a 99% and someone like Rachel Maddow a 10%. That would clean things up very quickly.

No wonder some of the translation of their replies seemed a bit off. Sounded like it was not given much thought, but realised it was AI at work and it lacked the clarity and on point thinking of a real human being.
Similarly, I used to do my own translation into French, but again realised my correspondents were processing everything through Google back to me. Everything seemed a bit off coming back through translation.
