The U.S. Senate passed the stop gap spending CR (Continuing Resolution) extending government funding for 45 days. The Senate vote was 88-9. Mike Lee, Bill Hagerty, Ted Cruz, JD Vance, Eric Schmitt, Rand Paul, Roger Marshall, Mike Braun, and Marcia Blackburn voted against the CR. The CR ends November 17th.
There was no additional funding for Ukraine in the House or Senate bill. DC is going bananas, claiming that everyone supports additional multi-billion expenditures for Ukraine, but during a Senate Republican meeting earlier today, even John Thune told Mitch McConnell the ask for more Ukraine funding was a bridge too far.
The bill will now go to Joe Biden for signature, and the temporary “govt shutdown” crisis is delayed. There is a complete disconnect between the will of the American people, and the priorities of the DC Uniparty.
Joe Biden responded to the bill, noting the importance of an additional funding mechanism for Ukraine.
“While the Speaker and the overwhelming majority of Congress have been steadfast in their support for Ukraine, there is no new funding in this agreement to continue that support. We cannot under any circumstances allow American support for Ukraine to be interrupted. I fully expect the Speaker will keep his commitment to the people of Ukraine and secure passage of the support needed to help Ukraine at this critical moment.” (link)
Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, speaking on behalf of Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, echoed a similar statement:
[WASHINGTON DC] …”It’s been a day full of twists and turns, but the American people can breathe a sigh of relief. There will be no government shutdown,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said shortly after passage.
The package is a departure from Senate leaders’ original ambitions to include Ukraine aid in the short-term funding bill. The final version of the bill — which overwhelmingly passed the House with bipartisan support Saturday afternoon — only includes disaster relief alongside regular government funding. Senate Democrats now say they’ll be seeking a supplemental bill to continue assisting Ukraine in its war against Russia.
“Most Senate Republicans remain committed to helping our friends on the front lines,” said Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. (link)

Matt Gaetz Will Attempt McCarthy Ouster This Week.
Rep. Matt Gaetz plans to file a motion to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his role this week, following McCarthy’s collaboration with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown on Saturday.
Gaetz made the announcement during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, stating that McCarthy had repeatedly violated an agreement made with House conservatives in January and that his deal with Democrats was the “last straw.” Gaetz aims to move forward with new leadership that he considers trustworthy.
This move escalates the ongoing standoff between McCarthy and the more conservative wing of his conference. McCarthy’s collaboration with Democrats to pass a continuing resolution and keep the government open until mid-November has put his position at risk. Gaetz has been promising almost daily that he will file a motion to vacate if McCarthy does not meet his demands. Gaetz accused McCarthy of lying in negotiations over the continuing resolution, claiming that no one trusts him. While Gaetz has been gauging House Democrats’ support to remove McCarthy from the speakership, McCarthy remains defiant and challenges his detractors to bring forth a motion against him.
The House is gaveled out until Monday when the earliest vote on McCarthy’s position could take place. Leadership would then have two days to schedule the vote.

Considering the House members were all still in the Capitol when the Senate affirmed the separate Ukraine funding bill, an argument could be made Congress wasn’t yet suspended. It’s happened numerous times before and like this one, will have no cause and effect. It will be one more LARGE nail in the eviction case however.

Kevin McCarthy is a genius for steamrollering the House Democrats, the Schumer Senate emocrats and the White House lunatic Democrats into passing the 45-day breather. And all while excluding the increasingly unpopular Ukraine and the intractable border security issues. His stompy-foot, fire-breathing rump caucus was absolutely no help yelling to get it all now. Until Saturday all House Democrats were voting NO.
This is what a strong leader does, use the House rules to full advantage to put the whole Democrat party in the spotlight of national interest. McConnell waffled and Schumer saw the outcome clear enough to beg the White House to release the votes. I doubt Matt Gaetz has a stronger position for a discharge petition.

First time in weeks that I have been able to read more than a dozen comments. The temperature of the comments has risen, and rightfully so. My fervent hope is the new residents remember why they left their previous states.
These votes, yea, nay or no-vote have revealed to one and all which side of the coin each of the elite resides. My suggestion is to review your local representation and look for viable candidates. And, should Gaetz bring a Motion to Vacate, Jeffries will likely pony up the votes to oust McCarthy and take a chance at that speaker’s gavel.
