Probably the wrong place for this comment. But I’m driving and sometimes these things happen. I was thinking about the New York judge who’s decided that Donald Trump is guilty of fraud. And it’s way more chilling than we even think it is. Because here’s the reality. What that judge is saying is, I can go back any amount of time that I want, take any business deal between two consenting adults, that was successful for all parties, and decide that I did not like the representations of the participants. And then declared a crime. The state had no place in that deal. The state continues to have no place in that deal. The deal is already over and done, and this bozo wants to turn finished business that everyone did well on into a crime? Has Bozo the judge ever heard of appraisals? Has both of the judge ever heard of due diligence? And both of the judge thinks he can now take Trump Tower and turn it over to one of his cronies to liquidate?

I am more or less a refugee from the Town State/Red Hall sites — the land of the butt hurt DeSanitized cultists — and weary from their morose digs at Donald J Trump. One of the ones that is particularly irksome is their dislike of what they perceive as his ego. Watching these excerpts I have seen the ego but nothing there that I find remotely off-putting.
There are a lot of Trump supporters who freely admit that President Trump is egotistical but is it truly *that* objectionable? (Sincere question.) I do not find it offensive because I balance it off against the incredible good he did and is doing for America. In 2016, he truly was a seminal candidate, became a seminal president, and is now a seminal figure in the pantheon of great Americans.
These people are truly petty in their devotion to poor Mr DeSantis and their hatred of Trump. I do not hate Ron and would find him to be a perfectly wonderful POTUS candidate were there no DJT extant. I would support him with zeal and fervor against the forces of evil arrayed before us.
But I remember remember how bitter the battle between Trump and Ted Cruz was in 2016 and — most significantly — when the struggle was done. He churned my guts during the campaign but when the dust had settled, I saw a picture of Senator Cruz in an ordinary Trump campaign office working the phones for Donald and it almost brought tears to my eyes. Remembering how Ted endured the stuff slung at him (Trump is a battler and the blows sometimes land heavily) and how he shrugged it off.
My respect for Ted is great both for his abilities in the Senate and the war he wages against the evil we face. I only hope Mr DeSantis can come back from this and show some of the resilience. It would be good to have such a person on our side like another Ted Cruz.
We have far too few of these types now.

Curious about California GOP. Now, we know California has had lots of “immigrants”. But Reagan won it 3-4 times (some as governor). Was it all immigrants or was the state GOP feckless giving away the store like we are seeing now in Texas, other quite red states, upper midwest, Idaho, etc. We are left shaking our heads at their giving it all away. So Reagan last elected in 1984, was California where Texas is now say in late 80s early 90s?

Don’t know. California native here. Had to leave it got so corrupt with the taxes (the bullet train that never appeared, etc), the collapse of the big cities due to crime and drugs, education went to the dogs, etc. California was overall Conservative, Republican, lots of farming and ranching, then big business. “Silicon Valley” had nothing to do with Google and Facebook. It was Intel, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Advanced Micro Devices, Apple, etc. All solid conservatively run companies. Outsourcing chip manufacturing did a lot of damage. This was all before the “dotcom” era.
Most folks ignored Hollywood back then unless they put out a really good movie like the original Star Wars. San Francisco was beautiful and a wonderful place to visit. So was L.A. Seems to me that the big slide downward started after Reagan left office. It was just never the same. And it became very unsafe. Now, it’s really a hell hole, in my humble opinion, except for pockets were communities have held a standard and not budged.
As soon as the Democrats got entrenched, things went down hill. Never been the same since. So sad. I loved that place. Don’t know how to compare that to TX.
I’m a California refugee myself, twice over.
Left back to my family’s old stake in Oregon when I was twelve.
Came back with the Air Force when I joined up, spent most of a couple decades there whilst wandering the world.
Swore I’d never come back when I pulled the D-Ring and volunteered for Korea to get out.
I’d rather live in Korea today than California, and I can still remember the thrill of walking outside to a California Winter and soaking up the beautiful weather that took my breath away, but it’s just not the place for me to be.
Don’t forget FMC and Lockheed. We had a hight tech industry before Silicon was “discovered”.
California was a Republican-conservative state. I grew up in Silicon Valley and the summer school programs had rifle club for elementary school kids. People drove pick-up trucks with gun racks in the rear window with rifles on display. My dad kept a handgun in His glove box in car. My brothers all grew up with rifle collections starting from elementary age. This was normal.
