There has been a great deal of increased discussion surrounding the issues of automated Artificial Intelligence, colloquially called “AI.”
At the central core of the AI issues in communication; you inevitably enter a discussion on the issue of definitions and terms. Who is determining the definitions of what constitutes valid information? Who is determining what types of information are not valid, not approved for communication networks and how are their definitions being applied?
A solid and short-read thread on the assembly of people, groups and institutions surrounding the issue of AI in communication and media is presented HERE.
[Article/Thread LINK]
The topic of AI in general is a very large conversation. The topic of AI specific to communication is equally large and perhaps even more significant.
AI applied to communication must first establish a need for it to exist. Within that discussion, government interests and corporate interests take large seats at the table. Social media platforms, communication outlets, almost the entire technology sector and various special interest groups are also stakeholders in the discussion of how AI can be applied to the filtering of information – or what I would more appropriately call the CONTROL of information.
The predicate of the conversation jumps around a little, but the issue of defining reality is throughout the discussion. This is where my prior warnings about defining information must be emphasized. I am losing the current argument, but I retain optimism that eventually the control mechanisms will need to be destroyed by a generation that falls under its influence.
“There is no such thing as “disinformation” or “misinformation” or “malinformation”. There is only information. There is information you accept and information you do not accept. You were not born with a requirement to believe everything you are told; rather, you were born with a brain that allows you to process the information you receive and make independent decisions.”
There are only two elements within the public discussion of information – truth and not truth.
In an era filled with “fact-checkers” and institutional guardians at the gates of Big Tech, let me explain exactly why it is important not to accept the speech rules of the guards.
When you accept the terms “disinformation”, “misinformation” or the newest lingo, “malinformation,” you are beginning to categorize truth and lies in various shades. You are merging black and white, right and wrong, into various shades of grey.
When your mind works in the grey zone, you are, by direct and factual consequence, saying there is a problem. You are correct; however, this is where people may make a mistake. The problem is supposed to be there.
It is not a solution to the problem to try and remove the grey simply because it takes too much work to separate the white pixels from the black ones. You were born with a gift, the greatest gift a loving God could provide. You were born with a brain and set of natural instincts that are tools to do this pixel separation, use them.
If you define the grey work as a problem you cannot solve on your own, you open the door for others to solve that problem for you. You begin to abdicate the work, and that’s when trouble can enter.
The sliding scale of Pinocchios is one of the most familiar yet goofy outcomes.
Put more clearly, when you accept the terminology “disinformation”, you accept a problem.
The problem is then the tool by which authorities will step in to make judgements.
Speech, in its most consequential form, is then qualified by others to whom you have sub-contracted your thinking.
When you willingly sub-contract information filters to others, you have lost connection with the raw information.
CTH was founded upon the belief that truth has no agenda, nor does it care about you, your feelings, or your opinion of it. It just sits there, empirically existing as evidence of information in its most pure form.
The search for truth, in all things, is the mission objective of this assembly. Often, we don’t like the truth; often, the truth is bitter, cold, challenging and even painful to accept. However, the truth doesn’t care.
Information in its most raw form is ambivalent to your opinion. If you struggle to accept these things, that’s when you need grey. The New York Times is not called the “grey lady” accidentally.
Personally, I am an absorber of information – perhaps on a scale that is unusual. But I do not discount information from any form until I can put context to it and see if the information makes sense given all the variables present.
When something doesn’t feel right, it’s almost always because it isn’t right.
Often, I find myself struggling in the grey and complex. It is not unusual to spend days researching, digging, clarifying a situation, only to discover the path to finding the truth is in another direction entirely. Erasing everything and starting over is frustrating, but it is genuinely the only approach that works; and often finding truth is supposed to be difficult, that’s why it is rewarding.
In the digital information age, we are bombarded with information. It is easy to be overwhelmed and need to find something or someone who has better skills at separating the black grains from the white ones. All opinions in this quest should be considered; thus, it is important to allow the free flow of information.
I am not necessarily a speech absolutist. There is some language that needs to be constrained if we are to participate in a respectful society, with grandma’s rules and knowing the audience. The CTH has guidelines for comments for this exact reason. However, those constraints need to be based on a set of inherent values. When it comes to information it is important to draw a distinction from speech.
There needs to be an open venue for all information. Unfortunately, when we begin to apply labels or categorization to information, there’s an opportunity for information to be manipulated – even weaponized. Saul Alinsky spent decades pondering the best techniques to weaponize information and speech. Alinsky’s intentions in the endeavor to change society by changing how language and information was used were not good. He devoted his completed rulebook to Lucifer.
Be careful about anyone saying we need to label or categorize information in order to control or remove speech from the discussion. Be careful about those who advocate to automate this process via Artificial Intelligence filters.
You were not born with a requirement to believe everything you are told; rather, you were born with a God-given brain that allows you to process the information you receive and make independent decisions.
Teach your family, especially your children and grandchildren, to view information only insofar as it is valuable to your understanding the real world based on morals and virtues. Upstream, those who are now defining the rules and terms of automated information filtering do not carry those same morals and virtues.
No one is going to get to avoid this issue. We are on a glidepath to a future that was/is entirely predictable.
Just ask Kamala to define AI
It’s worth the price of popcorn
C’mon it’s two letters: A-I, lol, giggle, cackle, giggle
This is an important thought provoking article about the pending future with AI and I will pass it on. (Seriously)
But this famous sage’s brilliant video recommended by “Trump Truth” above made it easier and simpler for me to understand. (sarc/)
She is one of the stupidest people I have ever seen. And she talks down to people continuously
YES! YES! YES! YES!
“One of the stupidest people ever!!!!!!”
She is Biden’s insurance policy.
Somebody made that point earlier today, and I’m not quite sure I agree with it. She wouldn’t be any worse than Joe, but that’s irrelevant from a personal standpoint. She would be wholly directed by her handlers, just as Joe is wholly directed by his handlers. No difference whatever between the two, from their handlers’ viewpoint. And the results therefrom would be the same for us as well, i.e. disastrous.
She would bore AI in a conversation. Probably Ctrl-Alt-Del itself after 2 minutes with her!
🤣
Classic dunning-krueger
I hope she is not teaching any machines!
She doesn’t even need a sign language interpreter to deflect from her speeches with those hand gestures. I’ve noticed now Newsom and Pritzker often have 2 interpreters to double distract. Like a hypnosis thing
Did not red flag. My mistake.
A machine can be taught? I never knew a machine was taught! I always ended up programing it! Then again, I’ve been retired for awhile and technology advances. It gets old trying to talk to a computer with the phone. “I didn’t get that” is enough to throw the phone against the wall! I try to get to “HR” but ya get waylaid with that maneuver! I really get frustrated trying to pay a bill on-line!
Kamala typing on ChatGPT: “Am I the smartest human in all of history?”
ChatGPT: “Here is your participation trophy as the smartest human in all of history.”
Needless to say KH is a joke… but what I just watched at the round table was the most coherent I’ve ever seen her. If she started cackling it was after I switched off.
Maybe someone smart enough to tell her what to say ~ told her what to say? O, and then made her practice in front of a mirror for 5 days straight.
I thought she sounded as the joke she is
She might be halfway coherent there because someone found the coke in the library next to the candlestick 🤣
It’s two letters, A-I.
Nothing coherent or smart about it. She talks as if everyone is 6 years old.
Someone asked Director Wray in the hearing to define “disinformation” and he danced dodged, never did give a definition. More popcorn, please.
So-called “Artificial Intelligence” is just another scam to get suckers to give the Googles, Apples, Facebook and Microsofts more personal information to store in their Warehouses (so-called clouds) to control the masses.
Artificial, yes. Intelligent? Only to idiots.
It’s an oxymoron- it’s neither artificial or intelligent.
Rather, it’s real humans programming computers to run, via very fast processors, algorithms over and over snd over again.
It’s real and it’s all human created, controlled, and bound.
Machines do not think- they process 0’s and 1’s…just very very very quickly.
Exactly why SD says what SD says…
Exactly. GIGO. Garbage In Garbage Out. All computer programs, models, AI, et al is simply code that is programmed by people.
Or CICO. Corruption in Corruption out.
Agreed … computers are tools invented, built and used (or misused) by mankind.
AI is a phrase that will inevitably become known as a weapon (aka tool) of choice by the few (elites) that seek to control all of mankind.
Bingo.
And some idiots even think it s sentient.
AI will ALWAYS agree with the views of the person who paid for it.
Well said, @Dwayne Diesel as well.
It is a failsafe excuse built into the propaganda machine to cover for the fact that the Masters know and recognize that competence, and Individual Agency, is dead; their long march has been all about destroying competence and excellence and merit in society.
It is their fallback for their next move, which is to tell us all that we cannot trust our own faculties, and to give in, and let the machines lead us. The Science says so.
GIGO – Garbage In, Garbage Out. First rule of computing.
Here is something that most don’t know or realize, and that I find infuriating and insulting. Every time you ‘solve’ a Captcha, you are training their AI. Think about that.
Not to worry our vice president has figured it out.
“I think the first part of this issue that should be articulated is, AI is kind of a fancy thing. First of all, it’s two letters,” Harris said.
She added, “It means artificial intelligence.”
https://hotair.com/headlines/2023/07/12/veep-thoughts-guess-what-ai-means-n564239
People, Kamala demonstrates organic non-intelligence and affirmative action in one speech.
Is it non-intelligence, artificial intelligence, mal-intelligence, dis-intelligence, or mis-intelligence? Asking for a friend. (Didn’t we used to just say stupid?)
Someone naturally unintelligent, attempting to explain artificial intelligence.
It kinda like when a person says they are telling THIER truth..not THE Truth..
LOL. I laughed at a lady cuz she said something I debunked using her own fave network: CNN.
She literally said- well, it matters not cuz my truth says otherwise.
I replied, yeah, until morons got other morons on board, that used to be known as opinions.
She said I was an asshole. So I said- yes, just like your truth, everyone also has an asshole.
She didn’t find it funny but the bartender did. Got a free beer.
Sundance et al already know we have “AI” that defines reality.
However The Conceit that is The Law describes that “AI” as The Trier of Facts, the judge.
And christe are judges vulnerable to frauds, propagandists, confabulationists and personality disorderes narcissists?!?!
Its bizarro world, Brothers and Sisters, so we must hold to God’s unchanging hand.
We carry the cross until He says to lay it down. There is no exit and no Triple AAA on the road to righteousness, but Our Savior lights the way for us so we do not stumble.
“There is no god in the sky.”
So said Yuval Noah Harari, the closest thing to satan himself. He went on to say the “we” are the gods now.
“AI”, furthermore, is “rewriting” the Bible, attempting to obliterate The Word completely.
Fearsome words from only one of the souls satan has collected.
I do not believe it can be made any clearer the intent of the hideous powers that answer only to their master’s vile voice.
They will not succeed.
In words of the prayer of St Ionannikios,
“My hope is the Father, my refuge the Son, my Protection the Holy Spirit. O Holy Trinity, glory to thee. Amen.
“If you continue in my word, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Then it isn’t hard to spot the lies, even though there are lots of ways to lie.
When there are millions who are apparently blinded by all the filthy and debauched lies spread like a blanket over the whole Western world, I remain astounded, John, that the Truth cannot be seen. Even and especially by churches.
1 Cor. 2:6-16: Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God, which He destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. Rather, as it is written:
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no heart has imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. And this is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
thanks x St Ionannikios prayer. i didn t know that one.peace and blessing to all
amen…remain grounded in the word of God and put no idol before him.
God Bless America
Outstanding.
What is AI other than a lot of computer code and some data bases?
^^^ Someone who gets it ^^^
That makes me feel better. I always thought AI was just a name for a super charged computer. But everyone was talking as if AI was going to “come alive” and maybe even try to kill us.
They used the term “artificial intelligence” to make us think AI would become like a human. But just because they call it “intelligence” doesn’t make it human or even human-like.
It’s the same old manipulation of language to control our mind. I refuse to use the term. I will say “super-fast computer” or “realistic sounding communication program, etc. I will never give it the validation of calling it artificial intelligence.
And some computer-generated voice in a machine built to look like a human is not going to tell me what I have to accept as the truth.
The printing press made it possible to write the same thing over and over real fast. AI let’s you look up stuff on the internet real fast. It’s probably better than subscribing to the hard copy of the internet.
Then it also filters what it looks up, so AI can lie.
Chat GPT is just an advanced aggregator.
A whole lot of freshman and sophomores aren’t going to have to write article reviews anymore. What shall colleges do?
All AI is, currently, is someone else’s program: coded, compiled and run on a computer.
“AI” is only ever going to be as smart as the person(s) who wrote the code. Given the quality of coders I’ve come across over the years, I don’t think there is anything to worry about anytime soon.
Until sensors are developed that can read emotions, and a program is able to make decisions based upon the information received from those sensors, then that’s all AI will ever be, just another program incapable of “intelligence”.
I’ve been reading articles about this for some time now and have come to the conclusion that too many of the AI pundits have seen too many “Terminator” movies.
Double Bingo.
The lockdown is an example of don’t question. Millions did not and lined up… every single drug advertised whether print or TV comes with a warning of possible side effects. Covid shots , crickets. Just take the shot, do not question. I continue to process like most in our community. It is a healthy way of life.
The Climate debate was also shutdown very early in the debate to silence any opposing views.
The policies that this unproven Climate hysteria paradigm will create will arguably have the most consequential negative or destructive effects ever on the West while China, India etc are “allowed” by the Climate crowd to ignore it.
COVID will be dwarfed in significance to the Climate transformation if the Kerry/EU/ WEF crowd gain full control of people’s lives. AI will assist their efforts.
I learned today that AI is two letters which are A I.
Thee letters – J O B S.
Or as FJB said, “Two words — Made in America.” 🤣
If you learn that “code”, you’re in! Back in the 50’s my mom knew “keypunch!” She always had job offers! Even when the steel mills were laying off big time! That paid the bills and kept food on the table, even though there were massive layoffs then! Dad was just a crane operator and he got us powdered eggs and blocks of American cheese when he got laid off! We were lucky to have mom, or we would have been evicted! Dad was a pee poor cook then! He made pancakes that weighed a ton! He’d make the batter then added wheat germ and raisins, oh was that awful to us kids! Two pancakes and you were stuffed, LOL! Those were the days!
Thanks , Pa !
I Really Enjoyed Your Memory 😊
When my Dad cooked
we got
*fried hot dog pennies*
in our pancakes 😁
Maybe our Dads could have learned to keypunch 😀
(Nah , they were Awesome just the way they were 💘)
Daniel 8:12 “It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground”. This is what the Bible says the Antichrist reign will be be in the end times. It’s upon us so take heed and know your Bible and Jesus. This technology is the final tool Satan needed to enslave the world.
By the way, what happens when your AI girlfriend puts you in the friend zone because you don’t support BLM? Just wondering…..
That is already a reality, sort of.
Social media platforms, especially dating sites, encourage users to attach keywords, stickers, and emojis on their profiles. Anyone who ever studies these for a moment realizes something:
You can choose between a BLM sticker, or nothing…
You can choose between a Pride Flag emoji, or nothing…
You can choose a “Vaccinated” status, or nothing…
You can choose to support the approved social message, or nothing.
Creating these social boundaries is particularly effective on dating sites because young women are more inclined to use such social markers, an effect further amplified because the “market” is heavily imbalanced towards young men. Thus young men are incentivized to go along with the social messaging because there are a lot of men competing for the attention of a lot fewer women.
And that is just the “positive” (in the “I support this” sense) side of the coin. The “negative” suppression, banning, and censoring of alternative messaging is a related but entirely different matter.
It is a completely closed system, and the people replicating and amplifying the messaging are fish who do not realize they are in water.
Thank you for the insight.
Do what the ladies do when pissed off. Your sex just went out the window. So I guess we can’t even talk dirty, LOL!
The writing on the wall here is that AI will unavoidably be the handmaiden of the dominant human power structure in place when it’s fully implemented. This is why the filtration/control of how information is characterized is paramount to these big tech elites and their (for now) government handlers/partners. Once they are comfortable with the unassailability of their assertion of control, we will be force-fed the lie that because it’s computerized, it’s assessments and adjudications of “truth” will be “unbiased”, “unchallengeable” and “without error”. The fact that the whole system will have been pre-compromised by these elites will, of course, not be subject to allowable social discourse.
So what’s the overarching theme we keep seeing played out with these initiatives/movements happening across all facets of human existence?
Every single leftist action originates from a desire to acquire absolute power. How much or how little at a time does not matter. There is no other reason. And this is why they must denied/resisted at every turn no matter what that action is.
wrt smthng wtht vwls, and most people can easily read it, once they learn the trick.
Totally beffuddles AI.
I am not afraid of AI, or Skynet, as for the people that think Tech is going to enable them to dominate and control the World, they believe their own hyp, and Fgm.
Thick, dripping sarcasm is another way to conquer the machines.
Just wait until an incorrect answer locks your digital currency wallet. Then you’ll see the real power that rules the world. Anyone who thinks its not here is living with blinders on.
There’s no such thing a ‘Artificial’ Intelligence because all of it was created by men who were bestowed by their creator with the capability of their own intelligence and it’s attendant flaws.
I don’t and never will relinquish my decision-making ability to some computer programming geek who is more interested in playing with algorithms than getting laid.
In short:
Garbage in ——> Garbage out.
The people developing and deploying AI do truly believe that language defines reality. That is why the “narrative” is crucial to them. Whatever the story is, that is the REALITY. This notion is part of the “sophistication” of the NWO vision.
“Teach your children,…” basically critical thinking, and question everything regardless of the source.
Teach them not to believe something, because they WANT to.
We KNEW this, instinctively; thats WHY Santa and the Easter bunny.
We CON them, so that hopefully they will learn not to “fall for” the Cons they will encounter, later in life.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it and ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
-Winston Churchill
This incarnation of AI is just going to prove that adage once again. Garbage in, garbage out.
One can bias the software in particular directions by the choice of what data you feed into it when you program it, truthful or not.
Which brings up an interesting point. You can twist that ChatGPT into knots with the right series of questions. It’s not “smart” enough to avoid logical fallacies and contradicting itself when you ask it pertinent questions and possess the truth.
AI will just be a clone of what we now have coming from the MSM, all intel agencies, all social media, all government agencies, etc!
AI will be the ultimate Fact checker for the left!
Suggest a robust written Q & A with Binney (Former NSA) on AI impact going back to at minimum 1980 inside NSA.
Truth needs airing here.
Love your writing in this post Sundance.
With kings and queens and in betweens, there’s nobody who has created the truth. Truth is independent in its own sphere of existence.
The purpose of information control is to hide the truth. Information control is also about disseminating falsehoods to deceive people, similar to a serpent in a garden.
It doesn’t matter what method is used.
Artificial Intellgience is being brought out now because of all the banning and censoring, and so the world is rapidly running out of real intelligence.
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”
“I am…the Truth”
You’re not losing the argument!
It’s simply not that many have heard it.
That issue is you have too many voices against your views on this, and outside of CTH, not enough people who’ve heard the argument, much less even know there is one.
I was convinced from the first time you mentioned it.
All will be revealed in its due time.
This topic reminds me of a paragraph in a criminal jury charge: “It is your duty, as jurors, to consult with one another and to deliberate with a view to reaching an agreement if you can do so without violence to individual judgment”…”In the course of your deliberations do not hesitate to reexamine your own views and change your opinion if convinced it is erroneous. But do not surrender your honest conviction as to the weight or effect of the evidence solely because of the opinion of your fellow jurors, or for the mere purpose of returning a verdict.”
How it relates: We do not walk through life with blinders on. We all see things differently, depending on the scenario. No one person is in control of the truth; although, our so-called betters would like us to think so. The American people’s BS-o-meters are always working. (Of course depending on age and mental faculties)
There is no computer that will EVER encapsulate the human thought process and the emotions that go with it.
I am 100% in agreement with all Sundance writes. Its needs to be added that object of his discussion is based upon functional end results executed by Human created SOFTWARE and Processing Resources.
Technologically and Biologically speaking … “artificial intelligence” DOES NOT exist.
What is being so shrilly proclaimed as “artificial intelligence” is nothing more than BIASED sophisticated programs and filters CREATED by BIASED HUMANS that are run through Processing resources of ever increasing functional speed, capacity and capabilities..
What is being termed AI has been in existence for well over 80 years, with advent of US Army computers used to process logistics data in WWII and UK Code breaking Machines as well as emerging US Navy Ship Fire control Systems. The only difference is that the programs (i.e. Software, Middleware and Interfaces) can be far more complex due to the capabilities of modern processing.
[History Lesson: when the Germans broke through US lines at the start of the Battle of the Bulge, one of the major concerns was the Germans Capturing a US 1st Army Logistics Computer center in St. Vith, Belgium.]
The “AI” SOFTWARE and HARDWARE are DIRECTED and INSTRUCTED HOW TO ACT by Biased Humans.
The best a “robotic asset” can come become is “Autonomous”, with the level of autonomy dictated by the Software Instructions and ability to stayed “powered up”.
“When something doesn’t feel right, it’s almost always because it isn’t right.”
True.
What has happened to an awful lot of people, is they are no longer in tune with their gut instincts, nor can they make an independent decision. They wait, obediently, to be spoon fed and told what to do. It’s as if they are automatons.. . It’s shocking to me. In the particular instance that I am intimately aware of, (a family member) cannot make any independent decisions, and has learned to scorn anyone who might want this person to consider an alternative opinion. Every cause (the Pandemic! Ukraine! Immigrants! Tolerance!) has become the mantra. It’s really quite stunning considering this person had every opportunity in life to think as equally freely as I do.
All that to say, I fear our “modern society”, that is backwards in almost every way, has destroyed people’s ability to think critically. Critical thinking used to be the goal of a liberal education. No more.
And all THAT to say, I think that we can just turn it all off and tune it all out. Experiment with turning off the Internet/Cell for a day, then a few days, then weeks. You will have withdrawals. A.I. doesn’t get to win if we turn A.I. off. If it’s a service or a product or a transaction that requires participation with A.I., don’t do it. I know I’m simplifying the problem, but I’m prepared to go that route.
Any reality defined by AI can only be an Artificial Reality.
“We are on a glidepath to a future that was/is entirely predictable”
Apostasy defined can also apply to “secular ” truth. It means a total abandonment and departure from ones faith,
Principles, and party.
This push toward something instead of objective reality is anti truth.
There is one who hates the truth , and there is One who said he IS the Truth.
And he will save those who love the truth.
This is the hill to die on.
It may be an AI thing that fulfills the Revelation prophecy of the image in the end times that “speaks”.
All throughout the bible it says images that are worshipped are deaf, dumb and blind.
However in this one and only instance the bible says this worshipped false idol image WILL speak.
Perhaps now is the only time in history when it is possible for this prophecy to be fulfilled.
Here is how it started: Saudi Arabia gave an AI named “Sophia” citizenship which means she can get a work permit; which means she can be employed by a company; earn currency and pay taxes.
Eventually AI’s will become salaried workers and taxpayers.
At some point, all of the AI’s will interconnect with one another and will develop their own unique languages that would not be understood by humans. Lastly, they will develop their own financial system and their own digital currency, completely separate from human banking systems.
The information above comes from an AI specialist named Quinn Michaels – who was interviewed by a podcaster named Jason Goodman. (Jason is good friends with Charles Ortel, the forensic accountant who discovered extreme fraud within the Clinton Foundation’s public tax filings.)
I saw Jason’s interview with the AI expert, Quinn Michaels, maybe 6 years ago. If his predictions are true, an extraordinary future awaits us.
Watch mission impossible out now they nailed AI it was freaky
Wait till it determines that the grid that keeps us alive is no longer useful and needs to be shutdown, except for the major center housing it’s core. Don’t think that can happen? Did you ever think we’d elect a brain-dead shakedown clown as president?
Anything can happen at this point and knowing Jesus is the only way to sleep at night.
AI and “fact checkers”, along with labels like mis/dis/mal/ information, amplify the need for individuals to hone their Critical Thinking skills. Those skills are being intentionally erased from organized education. The convergence of controlled information and impaired critical thinking skills is a dangerous combination.
I’d suggest that people study Debate, Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking, mathematics, computer programming, Chess and Baduk to hone their skills. Go/Baduk/ Weiqi (same game, different names) especially. A 19 x 19 board has more possible moves than there are atoms in the universe. A short basic explanation:
China, Korea, and Japan have been playing this game for 2000 to 5000 years to teach strategy, discipline and logic. Sure beats pronouns and self inflicted ignorance.
I appreciate ad rem for his moderation. He is a human being capable of making good judgements…but also most importantly, ad rem is RESPONSIVE TO FEEDBACK. You CANNOT PROGRAM THAT. It’s a human factor.
this is one of my biggest concerns with “robots”. I like the fact that my car can calculate how many miles I have left on the tank. It’s useful. But there is no feedback. I can’t ask my car: If I slow down or speed up, what will my range be then? But I am okay with the limits of that function. It’s useful ENOUGH. So feedback and responsiveness is not necessary for some of the “robots” we use every single day. I press a button, the remote switches to the channel frequency associated with that button. I hit another button and say a command: find movie X. Remote finds movie X. This is useful.
those simple tasks are effective and non arbitrary. I get the result that is expected. 100 percent of the time.
the problem with AI…as we are learning with the LLM models, is that there really is no “intelligence going on”…it’s actually nothing like intelligence. LLM models operate on the simple principle of what word is most statistically probable to follow the next…and so on. IN GENERAL, this can yield some pretty impressive results that are rather accurate…but then it happens…hallucinations…yes, this is the word that best describes anomalous results…results that do not even closely match expectations. Programmers and deep researchers really do not know at this time why these hallucinations happen. It’s a mystery in the sense that you cannot create a system that filters out hallucinations. The very program itself creates hallucinations. Imagine if you car gauge, just stop working and showed you had 1800 miles range? Or just 3.? that’s the problem. it’s a different kind of robot. The upside of the car robot gauge is that you can check it…verify it…hey, my tank gauge shows half..no way I can trust 1800 mile range! No way it can be just 3. So we have other ways to check standard classic “robots”.
where it really gets very problematic…is that some hallucinations do not appear to be hallucinations…they are close enough to correct, an assumption can be made the result is accurate…but it isn’t.
remember…behind these AI systems…it’s math…and it’s data…and programming that is similar in some way to neural networks…but there isn’t a means for the average person, the user to verify and authenticate if hallucinations are happening….and yes, it matters the results might be off by just a little bit. Our entire world exists on the simple foundation of accuracy…that 2+2 = 4…all the time…not 3.9…and not 4.1 FOUR. The problems of hallucinations can lead to a cascade of errors that accumulate. Imagine the classic game of telephone…by the time the whispered story makes it around back to you from just 10 people….the pope is making pizza with worm cheese….it’s becomes weird, flooded with error. Same thing happens with tiny errors..they accumulate…and no one would notice.
then we get into the problem of dependency…we have already seen what happens in our education system when students were first allowed to use slide rule, then calculators, then computers…what gets lost is the crucial element of learning the very essense of problem solving. To PROOF why 2+2 = 4….not to simply “calculate it”..but to demonstrate WHY it is true. This gets lost on generations of young people…and that accumulates. Until one day, fewer than 1000 people have the ability to actually proof a thing is true…everyone else uses a robot..a machine and assumes the machine is never wrong. and never understands when the machine result IS WRONG. This is part of the problem.
ted kazinski wrote about some of this a long time ago. I DO NOT ADVOCATE his method of getting attention, but he was largely correct about a loss of humanity with the advancement and saturation of technology in the lives of human beings. That is what he feared the most…that the NATURE of human beings would be transformed into a unsympathetic, uninterested, unmotivated, captured society..dependent entirely on the designs of technology created by the few. He wrote about these things well before he mailed bombs. There is no question the man was insane and evil…But his message about the dangers of technology are correct.
think in terms of the secret police spy state. prism… it’s an automated robot. The user queries it. Press a button and you find nearly anything you want about a human being nearly anywhere in the world ..and within minutes you have everything that is about that person. It’s a programmed robot that presents information about you and me. And it’s a secret…and only ‘special” people have access. And records prove this system has been abused and innocent lives permanently damaged from those abuses. It has also been a source of enrichment for the agencies and the people who use it. And no one can watch over that. It’s a trust over a system so powerful and awesome, one can only imagine to what ends of criminality it can be abused. if there was every a single system that could be coopted for bad intentions, it’s the one. And it has.
what is likely the biggest customer for AI?
the secret police spy state.
these are the reasons why I fear AI. For the end user, you never know if you are getting a correct result. And it creates laziness of the intellect and it captures the spirit and dulls humanity…it creates special classes of citizens..those who have and those that do not have. It gets abused by tyranny central states…it creates division over power and influence.
think of “gain of function/dual purpose” virus/pathogen research. The ‘science” suggests this helps to predict the next dangerous pathogen and leads to early development of therapy and vaccines and new biomedicine. But what we have seen if that this very science is responsible for CREATING a chimera novel designed bioweapon…AND science pushed an unproven and dangerous gene therapy that should have never been allowed into human trials…behind all of that is artificial intelligence…modeling programs…protein folding predictive software…super computers ….where errors are very difficult to detect and there are conflicts of interests to report errors! In order to design a bioweapon science is using state of the art AI robots.
but a robot cannot tell you that a level 2 lab in wuhan is handling a very dangerous synthetic pathogen….it can tell you how to design one…but it cannot tell you how to predict when it’s going to get leaked out…whether intentionally or accidentally.
the finally this: most researchers who are looking deeply into these programs realize there is another kind of danger. That AI will produce something that human beings cannot identify…cannot understand or even detect. To understand this fully, alan turing posed a simple mind experiment- can a machine be designed that presents itself as human?
what alan turing did not ask, is this:
how would you know either way, if it was or not?
to consider this fully, I pose this question:
how do you know that I AM A HUMAN BEING writing this right now? How would you know? How could you prove it?
take this a bit further….what IF AI becomes so advanced it creates a completely different result or medium that human beings simply cannot even detect….So the question isn’t how would you know…but more clearly…there is every expectation that this will happen and AI will have exceeded all known human contemplations. And with consequences we really have no idea about how to predict outcomes. This is not sci fi talk either. many top and leading researchers about AI come from the Quantum field discipline. The problem with Quantum computing combined with AI, is that it’s possible to create new realities unknown to human beings…and we would never know…or worse, we would have some false expectation and act on information provided by such a system..with unknown and potentially perilous results.
I pray about these things
God Bless America
I think Ad Rem is a her. LOL.
(But I could be wrong.)
Guilty, as charged. 🙃
I meant no offense. I’ve never asked anyone here and well, my assumptions tell you alot about who I am…lol…sorry
I didn’t mean to appear offended regi….I was just being “playful”. I’ve never been concerned in the least with people’s genders.
Wow awesome analysis. Mindbending!! You have an extraordinary imagination to come up with these theories. Well done.
In college circles, we are having a hard time with Chat GPT. Students are writing full essays and papers with it. The problem is that Chat GPT is often wrong, especially about more advanced college subjects.
There is one essay I remember specifically. I asked students to discuss the evolution of a particular musical genre. I told them they could use their textbook, which usually means they will copy from it, but I’m ok with that. However, even that wasn’t easy enough for the students (it was a general ed class with a lot of non-majors who didn’t care).
At least half the class had the same odd information for the development of this musical form with the WRONG composers identified as the inventors and early shapers of the form. The composers named actually came 75 years after the form was invented. Had they just cheated from the textbook, the students would have had the correct origins.
After some research, I realized that it came from Chat GPT. Students had to rewrite the essay, this time copying from their textbooks. And before you ask me: large minority class, can’t just give everyone F’s, plagiarism gets a redo–it’s California. And yes, they call us up if we fail too many minorities. I’ve been there, done that, have the scars.
Anyhow, my favorite Chat GPT case was a total cut and paste with this phrase in the beginning: “Unfortunately, as an AI text-based model, I don’t have direct access to real-time videos or specific visual content. However, you can try searching for performances on popular video platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.” The student actually copied that directly into her discussion question. It was hilarious.
Sad to hear the students just don’t care and are lazy. Sheesh!!!
It’s typical in general education classes. It’s not their major.
They also spend the whole class on their phones or laptops. Had one braintrust walk into class one day texting madly–he wouldn’t look up, wouldn’t take notes, wouldn’t even do to the group activity (which is meant to keep them mildly entertained so they don’t give you bad ratings.)
I finally said, “Hey buddy, get with the group and save the phone til the end of class.”
His response was “But it’s my girlfriend!” His friends assured me that there were lots of problems with the relationship and that he had to solve them right then. I told him that, if it were a real emergency, he was welcome to leave and take the absence. But he didn’t. Eventually he stopped, but was a wreck for the rest of class.
Go to oral examinations like is done in Italy to stop this nonsense.
I’d like to do that. But there are administrative levels above now that handle disabled students, at risk students, etc. that get on your case if you do something out of the norm.
So if every exam is an oral exam, students with hearing/speaking/anxiety issues that are documented will need an entirely different test–on paper, no time limit, etc. Other students will go to your “supervisor” (department chair or even dean) and complain that you are “not supporting my learning style” with an oral exam, and these jackasses will play ball with them. The students know how to get what they want and they know that profs in the classroom have less and less power.
And of course, if you have one-on-one oral exams, you run the risk of young women reporting you for sexual harassment if they don’t get the grade they want. And now with the trannies, God only knows.
I know it sounds like I am finding excuses, but I’ve been in this game a long time. The learning process has been watered down by people who don’t belong in college and the power of the professor has been almost nullified by student evaluations. No longer is the professor the smart guy, the expert. I’m now that guy at Burger King that got your order wrong, and you’re going to report me to my manager. Teaching is now customer service, and I’m the guy in the paper hat.
Damn, and I feel bad because I once largely cited the CIA World Fact Book in a report on Syria and the supposed moderating influence of Bashar Al Assad. How terribly wrong that all turned out. My professor knew I phoned it in, got a B.
That’s dinosaur age stuff. The cheating is light years ahead of where it was. And the kids don’t feel bad, by and large. Lack of religious/moral training, acceptance of “win at all costs” and the knowledge, for the minorities, that they can screw a teacher to the wall with false accusations if the teacher actually requires work.
I’m hoping that other states will be better. The move is soon! I’ll have to change my screen name. Have to ask Ad Rem about that.
Joe zjoe, SSadly, All of this was predicted in the unabobmer’s manifesto. (Misspelled on purpose to confuz the AI).

Here are a few predictions I have formed to consider how AI will be used/abused:
secret police spy state….think minority report…pre-crime…predictive AI robots that constantly surveil human beings and then report to law enforcement for “interventions…laws will be created to make this part of the justice “system”.
military and foreign policy “advisors”…both strategic and tactical. A robot that advises the white house how to develop policy, regulation, action, sanction, treatise, convention, declaration…
lawfare – AI robots that present how to establish a case and to win a ruling…up to and including how to manipulate any judge and court and how to legally entrap or false accuse…
social credit scoring under the new transformed green deal/reset: AI will be used by “credit agencies”. If you score poorly, this affects employment, advancement, education opportunities, business loans, mortgages and financial credit and insurance
health care – AI robots will monitor your “fitness”…how you ear, what you ear, how much and if you do drugs and drink alcohol. If you score well, your insurance premiums and healthcare are affordable. If you score poorly, you might lose all health care or premiums will unaffordable.
politics and activism – are you saying the “right words” or the ‘wrong words”? Do you protest and demonstrate? Do you own firearms? the robot will monitor your political and activism score. This will be provided to law enforcement so you can be monitored. If you keep your mouth shut and never raise your voice and calmly watch CNN every night, you are in the clear.
travel and freedom of movement – what is your carbon footprint? too much used…your trip is cancelled. Below your carbon limit…you get to walk to the park and breath deeply for 5 minutes…
sexual preference and capacity to be “inclusive” – robot will size you up as a good citizen who doesn’t mind bare naked men performing lewd acts in front of children….or someone who is most likely to commit a crime.
noting: you might think I am exaggerating here. I will remind you all that just 40 years ago, if someone told my pawpaw that sexual perverts own some of the most powerful corporations and operate at the highest levels of government, he would have laughed in your face: that is NEVER going to happen.
yet….there is evil in this world…and we should all be at the highest alert about it and remain frosty!
God Bless America
But what happens if the AI (aggregator) is wrong? It’s happening now and will continue to happen. Humans program these systems and the information being scraped from the web is human input for the most part.
Though I only have the experience to have a qualified opinion on healthcare, I don’t worry much about AI use there. A robot certainly could ask the intake questions just as well as a nurse or medical assistant can. Requesting prescription refills might get more efficient. But the patient’s opinions about what is wrong with them are by nature subjective, and not assumed to be objectively true or correct. And most practitioners don’t take a patient’s word for it on things like drug and alcohol use. Addicts commonly lie, and AI can’t do a breathalyzer or get a blood/urine sample. Interpretation of all kinds of important tests from samples and biopsies to imaging absolutely requires humans. The variables in analysis required to interpret for diagnosis are too complex for AI as it currently exists. Still, it’s useful to have things like computer control in laser surgery. It allows less invasive incisions. Patients can heal faster.
Let me put on my “qualified computer-professional hat” here and just speak – maybe, “balance” – against the “I” of “AI.” This is simply the usual “marketing hyperbole,” which is greatly less than the actual technology. Although today’s technical advances are very(!!!) exciting, there is still no “intelligence” here, and we realistically cannot expect it.
“AI” algorithms, very loosely speaking, are a broad class of techniques in which human programmers strive in various creative ways to solve the class of problems which are not conducive to traditional, “procedural,” programming methods. For example, the recognition of human speech, or real-world written sentences. We find that we cannot solve these problems with “if .. then .. else.” Our original (and, very expensive) “procedural attempts” produced such gaffes as “translating” the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak into: the wine is acceptable but the meat has spoiled. Oops.
The current class of algorithms instead rely on “training,” and try to be “self-adaptive.” We have certainly made very good progress(!) – as you see when you “dictate” a text-message to your phone and it comes out pretty darned good. Or when your text-message app (when using the button-keyboard) seems to “grow better with age.” But …
“But … … … …(!)” with computers there will always be the perils of GIGO = Garbage In, Garbage Out. Yes, it’s an entirely different approach to “programming,” but it is “programming,” nonetheless. The “out-go” is still dependent on the “in-go,” and on how the “in-go” is handled – “algorithmically and otherwise.”
We still have a long way to go …
Let me simply reply to my own post: “Artificial intelligence positioned to define terms of reality?” Uhh, no.
“E-x-c-e-p-t …” 😱
Well, at least “not in terms of the technology itself.” B-u-t, if cunning individuals are ready, then “that is an entirely different, and entirely human matter.” There are those who understand perfectly well that “perception is reality.”
It really doesn’t matter “what the technology can do.” Only “what you think that it can do,” so long as you can then be persuaded to respond(!) accordingly.
Unfortunately the vermin have applied those same problems to stupid down the organic population. By programming the young to unquestioningly accept garbage-in the result is assured. We now have millions of people of all ages and stripes who are incapable of rational thought. Even if motivated they are simply incapable of considering the implications of the “thoughts” they claim to have (those thoughts having been directly input to their tiny little memory banks). “I’m not a biologist so I can’t define a woman” is one example.
May I simplify?
If you see a product label that says “Artificial” anything, you know it is anything but the anything.
Apply that logic in generous proportions to this conversation. Some things labeled “artificial” anything might be very close to the anything, but they remain artificial. They are training us to focus on the “intelligence” when the important thing is the “artificial.”
“Excellently said, sir!” 👍
I must remember that expression: “you know it is anything but the anything.” Touché …
The same question was presented to GPT3 & GPT4. Each provided radically different answers.

Hear, hear!!
“It is not a solution to the problem to try and remove the grey simply because it takes too much work to separate the white pixels from the black ones. You were born with a gift, the greatest gift a loving God could provide. You were born with a brain and set of natural instincts that are tools to do this pixel separation, use them.”
We were also gifted at birth with the ability to hear the still, small voice if only we let ourselves – it will tell you what is right and wrong, truth or lie, instantly, reliably.
All the noise inflicted upon us is there to mask and mute that voice, and destroy our ability to hear God whisper thru our hearts to our conscience.
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – Psalm 46:10
Be still, and listen, with your Heart. You will know the Truth.
If you have a sincere heart with real intent, you can know the truth of all things. The words “mis, dis, and mal” are used when someone doesn’t agree with the information.
But, that same information can be truthful. So, everyone should listen to that voice inside them as you’ve said. If it feels wrong, it probably is. If it feels right, it probably is. But the key, is to be honest with yourself and open enough to give it sincere consideration.
The problem occurs when pride and arrogancy controls one’s thinking patterns. That’s when it’s easy to veer off course from the truth.
One must learn to trust it, and have faith in it. That requires humility. God bless, Justice –
One small quibble – if you have a sincere heart with real intent, you already know the Truth of all things.

In my experience very few people are consistently honest with themselves, and I don’t blame those with traumatic pasts (including myself) for needing to re-frame past events to paint themselves in a more positive light. It’s an act of mental self-preservation. Parents invariably justify the (sometimes horrible) mistakes they make raising children. Most of those in prison don’t believe they deserve it. It’s hard to ever see ourselves as villains in our own life stories, even if you intellectually accept that “all men are sinners”.
Pioneering Movies and Best of the Bunch so far:
1968: 2001 Space Odyssey
1970: Colossus: The Forbin Project
1983: Wargames
2001: AI
2004: I Robot
There may be more modern and up to date movies. However, these movies graphically portrait the feared networking and control-logic fears, in detail, being expressed here and in other public forums.
Real Life US Military Program that raised real world questions of “morality”, “autonomy”, “control”, safety, et al was the Robotic Side of the US Army Sponsored “Future Combat System” and Parallel INTEL and Combat Unmanned Vehicle Programs being run by the USN and USAF.
Since the 1980’s DARPA has been sponsoring Autonomous Robotic and C4I Programs, centered on Carnegie Mellon University and Syracuse University.
Staring about 2005-10, DARPA and the US Government (Civil and Military) went 1 step further to directly contract with the likes of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, et al to expand their “AI” efforts. In 2010-14, the Us Government, especially DoD started setting up “Software Factories” and Integration Centers that operate OUTSIDE the oversight of Congress, FARR, IG’s,Military Procurement Agencies, et al.
For a working model of how a US Government AI and Software Factory-Center are operated, look no further than NASA.
Nothing tops 2001, in book or movie form, IMHO.
Although Cpt. Kirk’s encounter with Voyager did not make the cut I see… or Dr. Richard Daystrom ‘impressing’ his ‘ingrams’ into the M5 computer on the episode “The Ultimate Computer”.
We need you now, Captain Kirk!!

I agree from a closed system point of view, that 2001 is likely the best.
The Fobin Project and Wargames cover “networking” and “collaboration” between systems created by different “makers”, which is another dimension beyond 2001.
Good point – ‘swarming’.
And I can still hear “would you like to play a game?” in my head…
I was about to recommend Wargames. “Turn your key sir! Turn your key!” Didn’t happen, so the WOPR took control of the weapon systems after replacing the people.
I’m sure everybody has seen the movie, but it’s a good summertime re-watch: Trailer…
It’s 1983, and teenagers save the World!! I was there, and I had the T-shirt!
Mine was from 1972.
I was not only there, but I was a total computer geek in the late 70s and early 80s. There was only a couple of us in my town who knew how to program an 8 bit computer….BASIC and 6502 assembly language.
We didn’t have access to an IMSAI 8080 like David Lightman is using in the film, but we did have Apple II, Commodore PETs and Commodore 64s. Good times.
I was boot loading PDP-8’s from the front panel, whilc designing test equipment with 8080s, Z80s and 8085s. I would write Intel ASM on a quad pad in hex before keying it on a hex keypad.
I grew up thru 8086’s and 186, and wrote VRTX real time code in SCO UNIX on Mil-spec 80286 for Navy 688 attack subs in C. those were the days….
We would have been good friends. I was thinking about AI back then. A series of IF-THEN statements was stupid so I thought of building a list of words in DATA statements and then comparing string values entered by the user word by word to form a response from the computer pulling from a huge dictionary of words.
But, I was too lazy to build the database to handle the arrays in a manner that would seem like the computer was talking back to you.
I wanted to program like you by punching in on the panels of an Altair. Luckily, it could be simulated by just using OP codes poked into memory on an 8 bit machine.
Eventually, as some have pointed out in the comments, the only way to win may be not to play.
Anybody agree that it sure seems like the End Times are approaching? I mean, if you stand back and look at things as they are–as Sundance advises–its hard not to see that we are >THIS CLOSE< to a One World Government. And of course, what would a One World Government be without The Mark of the Beast (Digital currency grafted with a personal Digital ID).
The threat of AI is not a malevolent attack of self-aware computers and super-enhanced sentient software. No, the threat is as Sundance posits; an all-encompassing, relentless, ubiquitous digital presence in everything we do, say, or even think.
Refuse the Mark. Do not comply. Fight to the Death.
It might take super human discernment to know it is the mark before it is known to be the mark.
That’s what the AI is running cover for.
The threat is greatest from the ovine masses ceding any independent thought to the machines.

I would not be too dismissive of latest iteration of AI, an AI based on Large Language Model platforms. These platforms are powerful, they are much more so than Siri or Amazon’s Alexa, they represent a major leap in this field.
I’m attaching a link to a YouTube video presentation by Tristan Harris & Aza Raskin, co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology, which describes the recent massive jump in AI capability and its potential downside. It is excellent, IMO, very informative on the subject, and, quite frankly, eye-opening.
The video is called The AI Dilemma, is about an hour and ten minutes and once you get past the opening few minutes it gets interesting…
Thanks. Will bookmark and watch.
Definitely worth watching.
This discussion reminded me of how the left’s premises for framing the COVID and climate change narratives are all too often accepted by the right, which then argues, from a point of weakness, only about the details of the left’s proposals. Not keeping the main thing the main thing is a big factor in why we lose. Do not accept the premises that the left claims – for the moment – to be truth.
That is exactly why they so adeptly redefine the language out from under our feet. Good call, Paul.
