Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is big mad at all the billionaires that are pouring money into Ron DeSantis and not providing enough money for the other guys, like himself, who isn’t even a candidate.
Hogan hates Donald Trump and finds himself bitter and angry that political income (general political grifting) has become much harder now. The billionaires are all searching for someone, anyone who can defeat Trump and his insufferable America-First agenda. Hogan jumps up and down shouting look at me, over here, I’m acceptable; but the billionaires are just not giving him any attention. It is tough to be Larry Hogan right now.

In states and districts that are solidly in the control of one party those who aspire to power without any core beliefs or values (aka, most who go into professional politics) will take the most pragmatic path to power. They may have values they prefer, but will negotiate them because they don’t have core values that override their ambitions.
I’ve met my share of candidates who came out and told me they would try to win a primary as a candidate in the large majority party, but if the powers in the party, the party bosses and deep pockets weren’t going to get behind them they’d run as a candidate in the minority party. It really isn’t that hard to do, most primary voters are low-information voters, and will choose the candidate who speaks the language of party hot-button issues. Like horse-whisperers, they are hot-button issues whisperers. Think: Frank Luntz. Words that work. Linguistics. Easy to dupe voters.
So you’ll get a Democrat like Larry Hogan who didn’t have a clear path to the D nomination in Maryland so he ran as a Republican, most R voters were grateful to have an ‘electable’ Republican without doing diligence. And those R’s who knew better didn’t care, they saw a horse to ride for their own agendas, rent-seekers. And high-info D voters knew better, too, they knew Hogan is really a D, and were comfortable voting for him; he shared their values. Same with Romney in MA, Cheney in WY, McCain in AZ, Graham in SC, Haley in SC, Christie in NJ. Funny thing is, there’s not many R’s who run as D’s in D states. They happen, but moreso at the local and state district level, not statewide or federal. Funny thing. I have my theories about why, but would distract from this topic.
